Governor Lonyangapuo warns West Pokot youth against using social media to propagate hate speech

Youths in West Pokot County have been warned against using social media to propagate hate speech attacking each other and insulting leaders and instead engage in peace building and development activities.
Area Governor Prof John Lonyangapuo cautioned youths in the area over being used by politicians to write wrong statements to spread propaganda to get political mileage.
He said that some politicians from the region were using youths to cause violence and hatred.
The elders urged youths to shun using social media to spread animosity and propaganda among leaders and residents.
“Those who incite you to write nonsense on social media are politicians who dropped out of school yet you are university student,”said Lonyangapuo.
He said counter attack by different groups on social media is causing tension in the region calling on youths to use social media to unite communities and not use it sow seeds of hatred.
“We don’t want people to misuse social media and bring animosity among residents. For three years we were enjoying peace .Those doing that should stop it immediately ,”he said
