a short and slightly funny video I made recapping a "day in the life" bicycling from Maine to Oregon in 2022. song: Sunny Days artist: Anno Domini Beats
I biked 7000 miles in 1983-84 from WY to NY to AR to AZ and back to WY. Since then I've biked 300,000 miles. But I camp, never stay in motels. I live on $300 a month for food and minor bike repair.
Yeah, for me, the average price for lodging was $148 a night so definitely on the pricier side. Camping even a couple nights a week or utilizing the warm showers community would of have helped save a lot.
@@matt-hike-bike-camp I've been experimenting a lot on minimalist traveling. The head/hair is the major problem. Any hair and the face and arms and lower legs + feet really need a big sink or hose for a good wash. But if you don't have much body hair, or it's shaved once per week, I found a 50/50 mix of 91% isopropyl alcohol + distilled vinegar on some paper towels can clean the body very well for nearly nothing. Fwiw 🙂
Is it electric or regular? What advice do you have for someone wanting to do the same thing say to Ohio from southwest Florida instead of across? Are there places you can camp and stuff on the way
I took my regular 3-speed hybrid bicycle so probably not the best choice. I really like Adventure Cycling maps since they highlight places to stay and other services. However, not sure Adventure Cycling has a route from OH to FL. Maybe there is a reddit community or other forum out there that can point you in the right direction.
You're a real cyclist sleeping with a helmet 👍 😅
good luck on your journey, hope you see new places and meet a lot of people
you're living the dream. I've always wanted to do what you're doing. what an amazing experience
why only 22 people like

New subscriber , great content. Thanks for sharing
Thanks!
safe travels 👏🏾
Oh, I guess the saw wouldn’t help much, since you said the sidewalk ended. Dang, well I’ll bring one anyway just in case. 😅
so much to pack, so little space lol
GOOD LUCK…! (I see you wear that helmet like I wear my HAT, which NEVER comes off….). BE CAREFUL, & keep us updated on your trip…👍🏼👍🏼😃👣👠
Im Bett immer einen Schutz-Helm tragen, Sicherheit geht vor 😁
Haha!
I’ll bring a little saw when I go. 😅
I wish you luck
I’d probably do an ADV trip across America
Acrosst America
I wish I could afford hotels 😂
$100 x 60 days = $6000 😮
I'd be doing 150mi days 😊

Do you take your helmet off for showering?
No way, too risky, haha
In the shower is one of the most common places to slip and fall on your head
Sounds like 62x$100 per night on average?
If you’ve got the cash, that’s a comfortable way to do it. Good for you
Yes, I definitely splurged on lodging. For me, it averaged $148 a night

@@matt-hike-bike-campthank you!
Do you stay in a hotel every night I understand that would be a good thing especially getting good sleep and not being too hot
I did stay in hotels/motels every night.
Motels every night wow i just set up camp
Nice! yeah I was on the fence about camping. Originally that's how I planned it but as the start date neared I decided to just stay at motels/hotels.
What app do you use to find your routes
Adventure Cycling has an app called "Bicycle Route Navigator". You have to pay for sections of each route but for me it was well worth it.
How does it feel like sleeping with a helmet on?
Would not recommend it, haha!
Why sleep with your lid on?
I was just trying to be funny, yeah that would probably be uncomfortable
@@matt-hike-bike-camp FAIR ENOUGH! BE SAFE ON YOUR JOURNEY AND HAVE FUN!
@@matt-hike-bike-camp I was hoping for a shot of you showering with it on, with certain parts blurred out of course.
Did you say hotel. Please another tourist on a bike
