@Peter Smith I mean, the whole 7 minutes video is about "try to whistle the highest/lowest note you can do and push a bit further, and do it and do it." So it's not like you missed a lot by whistling. I whistled during the whole video too. hehehe.
I love whistling! I'm a truck driver, so get to practice as loud as i want without annoying people. I've been working on the lower end, and can go lower than ever now, like blowing over a beer bottle. I can do 2 octaves with my 'normal' whistle, and about half an octave above if i switch to my 'pico' whistle style which is a bit quieter but can do more trills and warbles like that. Cheers for the tips, whistlebro! *peep peep*
What a character you sound like, I can just imagine a short story or miniature cartoon about a trucker that spends so much of his time on the road developing his ability to whistle to the point that he is just whistling the most beautiful and intricate whistle ballads like they are nothing
So I’ve been told I can whistle well and as a musician, I’ve always wanted to learn to improve my range. I’ve been playing the trumpet for over a decade and the same principle applies in both brass instruments and whistling haha! I almost felt stupid thinking “of course you just play your range. Strengthen that embouchure and you’re good!” smh thank you for the video. You’ve explained it very well and I hope you’re still whistling these days
Great video! I actually just increased my range in seconds in relation to the making the gap smaller; without strengthening any muscles I just raised my tongue closer to roof of mouth and made my mouth opening smaller. Thanks!
By the end of this clip anyone else's face feel like they'd held a smile for to long? God i really angered everyone sleeping, Inc my dog. Anyone else followed his lead?
actually, it seems the only note i can make at all currently is the super high one near the end lol. i just learned how to whistle and i need to just go lower. i want to be able to whistle the "for a few dollars more" movie theme :)
After the weight lifter comparison I couldn't help but think of a bunch of whistlers in a whistler's gym...."going for high A again?" "Yeah, can you spot me?"....lol
A pretty fun way could be choosing a song to learn that has sounds in both the ranges, you'll see the progress in it sounding better over time and your range will improve. It might sound terrible at first but practice makes progress!
Thank you so much for this video! By following your advice I have gone from only being able to whistle one octave to whistling almost two octaves. Wonderful.
Wow! This is wonderful..Right into my favorites... I'm going to learn how to whistle! Thanks so much for making this. My father's a whistler! Thanks for the inspiration brother!
Ericsurf6 oh my gosh. I just wanted to say, I know this comment is five years old, but you you were my favorite RUclipsr growing up. I'm 18 now, and all I can remember are some pencil, coin, math tricks... And a Wasabi kit Kat video? You might not even read this but thank you for making my childhood interesting. I'm glad to see you're still making videos.
For many years I've just wanted to be able to whistle really well, over the past month wish I've just been whistling more and more lately, and I've only been improving! But this defiantly helped!
I learned how to whistle high by keeping my lips in and mouth hole small. When I whistle my highest, people usually think it's a computer or alarm of some sort. But I can't whistle low at all. edit: the super high notes take barely any air
I do agree with the 'Practice thing'! A month ago, I wasn't even able to make even a tiny whistle, but after practicing most if the day every day, I can now whistle! Though, only while inhaling 🤦
Wishing you all the best Dave! I always love how you did your tutorials! Your voice is just as smooth as your whistling! It is impossible to turn you off once you start. You are still one of the top whistlers in the World and have so much technique, some of which, only you use.
My first time actually researching how to improve my whistling. I'm surprised it seems i ahve the same lowest note as you did in this video. My high note is not even close, but i have always been fond of low whistling, so i may have unkowingly trained that for years. I wish to improve my range a bit
I remember you explaining this to someone in the comments section awhile back and it has helped me a lot. Still have a long way to go but at least I'm finally able to stand my own whistling. :)
@WhistlersBrother doesn't mention this in the vid and I'm sure he meant to, but the converse is true for the low range as for the high. If you can make your mouth cavity a little bigger without messing up your pucker, you can get a lower note to happen. If, for example, you open the back of your mouth like you're yawning while saying the letter "E" (that's a vowel that opens your throat a little bit) it gives your pharyngeal cavity a lower resonant frequency.
Great tips. I have never looked at in the way that you said. I guess its something I can do and take for granted. I like how your able to break it down
Hey^^ The tutorials are great & very helpful - thank you. One question, though - i may have missed it, but did you make a tutorial on how to get louder ? I kind of have a hard time pushing up the volume :p Thanks again ! Andie
documenting rq i'll come back to this in a few months and see where i am Lowest note i can whistle - Bb4 Highest note i can whistle - Eb6 my higher register is lacking and sometimes i can't whistle the whole melody without taking it down an octave and making it kinda airy. i'll update in a lil bit when i've improved my range
I found his videos helpful. I've been whistling since I'm young and right about this moment I thought of watching some whistling videos FOR THE FIRST TIME. #quarantine
I just asked the same question on the warbling video. A couple of years ago I discovered I could do it because I can really only whistle inward. It gives me sort of a cricket or bird sound.
Good explanation. Most people say just to move your tongue,. I didn't know you had to move your jaw slightly too. I moved my tongue and the pitch didn't change at all.
I have been whistling since young, only now I realized that, hey if u can whistle well enough, it is like having a flute with u all the time and u dun really have to learn to play it.
Oh great! As requested. =) Seems there wasnt THAT much to teach about that topic, but somehow it feels like i allready expanded my range one or two notes just by watching this. Cheers bro!
Thanks for reassuring me that on on the right path i whistle and sing 6 hours a day at work been 3 weeks now and its so nice to see improvment every week and i listen to loves songs and metal hahahaha
Yo I need help. I can whistle and the highest I can go is loud and hurts everyones ears. I also have an "empty range" where it goes from a normal range and it stops then it get that annoyingly high note
i always knew how to whistle but only on note and a couple of years ago a friend of mine started trying to whistle. I then tried to learn how to do different notes. I have an eh range so now im trying to improve it. Hope i cant whistle better soon
Whoever says this guy is weird for enjoying whistling so stupid. Whistling is awesome
Whoever says anyone is stupid for enjoying something harmless is kinda stupid in my book. Whistle on my brothers & sisters!
I love whistling
whistling is amazing
I cant sing but I love music so I whistle!
"The space inside your mouth has to get smaller."
Instantly hit the highest note I've ever done. Just off that advice.
Jeremy Kean before i got to that part i did it cause your comment uhhh

I can hit higher but I can’t hit lower my range goes from an A8 to a c4
Lol me
I wasn't I was listening
This guy is a genius. Nobody else explains it so i get it.
I think the people living near me in my dormitory think I'm annoying for practicing my whistling.
64imma especially because you probably wrote this late at night! Haha
Danny he could probably just be in a different time zone
I do this too:D
That is my same concern. I’m in a dorm room.
Go to your car🙂

I feel that, except i went from trumpet to euphonium so its probably not helping my whistling lmao
oh he can go like 2 octaves higher than me, but i had a bit of consolation since i could go one note lower... not much consolation.
Oh!sama he can go 2 octaves higher than me and an octave lower :(
Same the lower is harder, then warble it even more technique is required. my flute playing years have taught me that and intonation.
I didn't know rob schneider was so good at whistling
Died😂
I'm seeing more a Jeremy Piven. 😂
Great video! I actually just increased my range in seconds in relation to the making the gap smaller; without strengthening any muscles I just raised my tongue closer to roof of mouth and made my mouth opening smaller. Thanks!
Good tip bro
could u day what ur doing for a deeper note i can only do high notes 😭
By the end of this clip anyone else's face feel like they'd held a smile for to long?

cole hill oh my gosh 😂 here for the same reason
cole hill here for the exact same thing
@@DaltonCoker that's why I'm here
Same tbh
I put my tongue more in the back and i het lower notes
To add to what you said, I'd like to mention that getting the lowest notes louder takes more air for me than reaching the highest notes.
Man what you're doing is priceless. Thank you for you lessons and whistling.
After the weight lifter comparison I couldn't help but think of a bunch of whistlers in a whistler's gym...."going for high A again?" "Yeah, can you spot me?"....lol

Legit even if not about whistling... this is pure wisdom. Great stuff
Thank you so much for this video! By following your advice I have gone from only being able to whistle one octave to whistling almost two octaves. Wonderful.
Thanks for this video!! Airspeed is the key!
I get so light headed doing this. XD
If you learn whistling both by inhaling and exhaling it helps a lot with the lightheadedness ^^
Then your doing something wrong? That never happened to me. 🤔
@@sinnr666 either that or they just have a small lung capacity
@@sinnr666 when you whistle for too long, the air that is _supposed_ to go to your head instead goes out your mouth. Thus the light headedness.
Damn, my range is just one octave.
my range is three notes!!! :)
SAME LOL. But when I first started I only had 1 note lmao. I couldn’t change notes.
How about now?
same 😭
This helped so much! Over two days, my range improved so Much! Thank you!
You’re only here because you were trying to whistle something and couldn’t get the right sounds
How did you know 💀
2:15 When the tea is ready
😂
Lol 😂
I have a decent range from a lot of practice but man, those high notes he hits are insane! Hope I can one day get my notes that high
Only learning this so I can do the whistling on Wind of Change by the Scorpions. Nailed it!
Same!
i used to not be able to whistle at all, now I can, but only half of my full voice range, I do use my vocal cords with my lips to whistle.
Wow! This is wonderful..Right into my favorites...
I'm going to learn how to whistle! Thanks so much for making this. My father's a whistler!

I never knew you can whistle inward; it just never occurred to me before
But when he finally mentioned that, it was an ability unlocked moment
For many years I've just wanted to be able to whistle really well, over the past month wish I've just been whistling more and more lately, and I've only been improving! But this defiantly helped!
I'm doing this for you, Jung.
I CAN DO THIS. DON'T UNDERESTIMATE ME!!!!
I’ve discovered that whistling is one of my hidden talents by watching this video
I learned how to whistle high by keeping my lips in and mouth hole small. When I whistle my highest, people usually think it's a computer or alarm of some sort. But I can't whistle low at all.
edit: the super high notes take barely any air
@Epic Gaming its different for different people, basically the notes that are hardest for you are going to take the most air for you
i started in whistling tutorial 1 and im getting better and better. thank you
Mine just goes down in pitch rather than up like a plane that’s falling….
I do agree with the 'Practice thing'! A month ago, I wasn't even able to make even a tiny whistle, but after practicing most if the day every day, I can now whistle! Though, only while inhaling 🤦
Thanks so much for confirming my theories! Gonna end my whistle walks by getting a good one or two at the very end till it really hurts!
I can already whistle as low as he can, but I've always been sorta proud of that. I can't go all that high though.
Wishing you all the best Dave! I always love how you did your tutorials! Your voice is just as smooth as your whistling! It is impossible to turn you off once you start. You are still one of the top whistlers in the World and have so much technique, some of which, only you use.

1:29 he can reach G#7!! from G5 to G7 he has 3 octaves in full range, I'm here because I miss all the 7th octave.
My highest note was g7
Loved this tutorial. Thanks for sharing your tips!
I know practicing takes a long time but I've been whistling 5 years
When i first learned to whistle(I was like 7). I first learned inward whistling then outward.
Thank you! I have a new delightful hobby. Well done. Peace.
he's got three higher notes and one lower note than me... gotta keep working
thank you, makes so much sense when I heard you say it! but would have never thought it for my self ....top man!
am i the only one who thinks he looks like rob schneider
JEDUARD for real! And sounds like him even his mouth movements
That's who it is! It was bugging me.
JEDUARD personally I thought he was a carrot or a stapler, not quite sure
A Rob Schneider / Jeremy Piven hybrid.
I remember you explaining this to someone in the comments section awhile back and it has helped me a lot. Still have a long way to go but at least I'm finally able to stand my own whistling. :)
Best whistle tutorial I’ve I found on RUclips.👍
Holy shit it worked, I inadvertently hit an extremely high pitch 1/3 of the way through this clip. My cat isnt happy.
The good thing about practicing your whistle is you can literally do it anywhere.
Really 👍
This vid was great. You’re great. Thank you for the exercises to practice! :)
@WhistlersBrother doesn't mention this in the vid and I'm sure he meant to, but the converse is true for the low range as for the high. For me, being in band really helped me whistle high because the muscles in my mouth were already really strong
Me too lol
This video got recommended to me after 12 years?? 😬🔥 Also found the playlist , its GOLD
