I can't believe it's the last episode of CC Philosophy! Sad to see it go, but excited to see what Hank and the CC team works on next! CrashCourse has succeeded on making learning fun (so many of us are upset that an educational video series is ending, who would've thought that), and understandable. I thank you for that. Also ironic when talking about death comes the end of the series :/
KingInfinity I really hope Hank does the geography series that they tried to start. It's amazing that those episodes didn't get good reposes and they decided to take it down and postpone it till they can do it better, but I really hope Hank does them. It would be brilliant.

As a philosophy student at university, there is so much depth to the subject that a layperson just couldn't even scratch the surface of. The academic study of philosophy is most assuredly needed.
I've been studying philosophy for 47 years now and most of what I've learned was after I left university.
that dosent mean that the academic philosophy field isnt needed just that you got older and knew more how many of those years were you in university

Well the way I was raised encourages you not to question your religion, and just go with it. I questioned and now I'm living a happier life for it. Questioning religion for me has revealed the BS of it all, and allows me to live the life I want to live to be happy and not fear a damnation from a God or Gods.

It's not determined by the liver of that life, it's a joint decision between the kidneys and spleen of that life.

I've just realised it's been almost a year since this series started and I did get that bittersweet feeling hearing it's going to end. My thinking process has been greatly shaped in a positive way by your videos. My beliefs, opinions and arguments are now subject to clear logical scrutiny and my mind is like a cloudless sky. Somehow in my daily life I combine A.Camus vision with Aristhotle ideas: I am living as Sisyphus, who struggles for eudaimonia and sometimes I feel happy. Thank you Hank and all Crash Course Philosophy team. You opened new doors for many people.

Why would you not call him an existentialist.
He was extremely opposed to being called an existentialist, and even argued with Sartre, his friend and prominent existentialist, about the philosophy quite often.
Sective exactly what I mean. It was a massive conflict between the two. The philosophies are very subtly different but different nonetheless.

What I've learned about Philosophy. There is no right or wrong answer, it's all in the eye of the beholder. Philosophy is a way of getting people to think about things that no one will ever get the answer to.
But isn't that part of the inherent beauty of confronting ideas and questions that seemingly (or thus far) have no answer? And all the disagreements (so long as people don't resort to childish and immature tactics to challenge someone else's argument)? Could you imagine how boring of a world this would have been, if everyone agreed on the exact same things, where there were no deviation from the "norm" and "accepted" answers and ideologies? I don't know, I just think its kinda neat, is all :)

I remember how utterly fascinated I was after reading Russel’s A History of Western Philosophy as a young boy. Its world with strange characters and magical ideas still has a special place in my bookshelf. This show has been equally mesmerizing for the past 46 weeks: You have been RUclips's equivalent of A History of Western Philosophy for me. Keep up the good work, I hope to see more of CC in the years to come!

Welcome to the post-modern time!
It's sad for this to end so now I must rewatch every episode. This helped me to get an intro the various schools of thought and which ones interest me the most. Thank You Crash Course Philosophy
However detached I may have learned to be, while going through this series, I can't just not have any attachments to it. It's been a total 8+ hours and yet it's more than anything I've learned about life from any people, art works, movies or serials. Thank you CC Philosophy, Hank and John! Hoping for a second season! (I believe there's still a LOT more that can be discussed under the umbrella of philosophy. There can even be some of the areas of philosophy, discussed here, expanded into series of their own.)
By far, by FAR, this series has been my absolute favorite Crash Course series. It has changed the way I look at the world. It has helped me grow intellectually and emotionally. This was my favorite Crash Course series by far. Such an inspiring and in-depth study of philosophy, I wish this could be taught in schools.

This is by far the best CC series till date. Early on my top pick was the world history series ( it doesn't mean it is bad now, but they out performed themselves) but this has without any second thoughts straight up risen to the top.
Now, a word of thanks and appreciation to Hank and his CC team who had not only made mind bending decepline like Phylosophy easy to grapple with but also a tremendous joy and fun ride which I could never get enough of.
My salute to the whole CC team for their phenomenal coutributon to the field of online education and learning and also to fuel the curiosity within people like me where it was sort of dying and much needed.

I am so sad this series ended, I waited patiently every week for a new episode, thank you Mr. Green for the awesome time and to the team of Crash Course for being such a positive influence and informative flow of information in this world full of trivial and boring stuff.
I want to continue this journey into the world of philosophy - so are looking for any books, lectures or/and documentaries on the subject, any requests ?
Look into Buddhism. Ignore the spiritual side if you like (I did, though it was interesting for non-philosophical reasons), but it's a pretty different (and therefore enlightening, pun partially intended) way of looking at life and meaning from the one we're used to. Listening to Alan Watts has been helpful to me.
Also, watch Star Trek (TNG might be the best one for philosophy), Battlestar Galactica (the 2004 series), Babylon 5 (if you can bear the slow, albeit important, 1st season and dated CGI) and just sci-fi in general. A lot of it is philosophy in an entertaining, though not always uplifting, and approachable package!
Oh, and Theramin Trees and Qualia Soup. A lot of their content deals with religion, but can be viewed in a more general context. Also, I'd recommend looking at Anthony Magnabosco's Street Epistemology (it's based on Peter Boghossian's book, but I get a rather schmucky vibe from Boghossian himself) channel. It's a very good resource for understanding how to examine and question beliefs.
I'd recommend starting here: www.thegreatcoursesplus.com. Do the month trial, see if any of the offerings in their philosophy section are what you are looking for, and go from there. Other Great Courses series can be found.... around, if funds are an issue.

The Wealth of Nations-Adam Smith (Philosophy of economics)
These are all books that have immensely shaped philosophy and the world. For those looking for a real philosophical challenge, check out the books involving logic. Those books have influenced the likes of Alan Turing, the father of computer science. Indeed philosophy is the mother of every scientific subject. Crash Course did an amazing job showing us the power of philosophy so go read more about it and be sure to discuss it with other people, even if they aren't philosophy majors or professors! A lot of people have thought about many philosophical issues, even if they don't know the philosophical terms to describe it

In the end, I submit to Existentialism. We are the only ones who truly determine what matters most in our lives. Do drugs and food and a cozy bed mean the most to you, or do thoughts and actions that change the world mean more? It's up to you to decide because, at the end of the day, you are the one who has to live with yourself. Thank you CrashCourse Philosophy, I know I'll miss you!
I'd say I'm an Aristotelian Existentialist. While I understand that for each individual, they find their own path, the one I find to be the most fulfilling is that seeking to better myself through relentless curiosity and virtue development.
I prefer acceptance of the Absurd rather than a deliberate effort to find/create meaning in life.
Every time I've tried to find meaning I've always ended up confronting the lack of inherent meaning to existence and all my attempts to manufacture meaning always end up even more ridiculous than having no purpose at all, so I just live in spite of the Absurd rather than try to paint it over with religion and/or fabricated meaning.

Here's the problem with existentialism: If we give our lives their meaning and value, someone who is a murderer, a rapist, narcissistic, etc, can have as good of a life as someone who brings joy to others, creates beautiful art for the world to enjoy, gives to the poor, teaches children, etc.

Roy Machine is possibly the most powerful technology used for a frivolous purpose yet proposed in Science Fantasy. You run through a simulation of literal DECADES of experience in less than a day, and retain at least some of those memories upon exit. It's like if Groundhog Day was the rest of the character's life and he reset to that day upon death.
You could use that to master any skill, become an expert in any field, gain several lifetimes of wisdom and empathy, and do so in a day. Roy machine as a video game is like using a steam engine for an art display and nothing else, but so much more.
