I got this kit about 8-9 months ago, with both a 14x14 and 16x16 floor toms... they sound amazing! This video really well represents the sound of this kit, I'm really happy with mine. The rack toms sound even better when you go with either an Ambassador or Emperor batter head.

Hey Michael! I’m thinking of grabbing one of these kits for myself. Just a few questions, the ambassador heads that you added, were they the coated ones? Also would you recommend this kit for its versatility? Thanks for your comment! :))

@@emersonmccullough6926I’m in a 80s-2000s cover band and this kit is awesome. I came from a maple kit, much prefer the birch/ mahogany. I’m an evans guy tho, these sound amazing with clear G2s or EC2s. The guy in my local drum shop has the same kit too and he uses coated Emperor’s. Hope that helps!

I realized about halfway through the video the only cymbals "attached" to the kit were the hats to keep basic time. Awesome! On a drum set demo I want to hear the drums, not a bunch of cymbal work. I do understand those who would say they want to hear the kit in a practical application, with cymbals, so maybe a portion of a video could be devoted to those who would say that. I've been gearing up to get a Session Studio Select kit in Crimson Burst with a 20" kick. I've been to big box stores and independents like Fork's and Memphis Drum Shop and nobody has them on display so I haven't been able to hear them up close and personal. I think this video is probably the best representation of how the drums really sound of any I've seen so far. Thanks for posting!

Literature from Pearl talks about, "pre EQ'd" birch being used for this drum set. Does that mean that the drums come pre tuned from the factory or did you have to experiment with tuning to find that sweet spot where the drums just ROAR for miles of sweet gushing sound? BTW, I really like what you did with the medium tuning. Those baby's just OOZED with mouth watering tone! (I drooled a little I'll admit it! ) I got the 24" bass drum configuration with the 18" floor tom and 5.5" snare to play with my stoner country band. Thanks for posting I really like what you did with them! 🙌

Hi Erik, i tuned them by myself. Since this kit was reviewed before in another German magazine and also was part of a clinic tour, I can't tell you if they are shipped pretuned.

      Hi Erik,
Maybe a bit late, but I think what Pearl refers to with "pre-EQ'd" is the fact that they have used two types of wood for the drum kit, which both are supposed to have different characteristics:
the birch is supposed to have a higher frequency sound, while mahagony is said to be deeper sounding, hence both in combination giving you a "pre-EQ'd" sound, cutting in both highs and lows.
Of course there are a lot of factors that contribute to the actual sound of the kit, like the heads, the room and obviously the player him/herself.
Some even say that the shell material doesn't even affect the sound very much, but I wouldn't go that far and still would have to listen to a lot more different kits to give a valuable statement about that...
But I'm going to buy the kit as well, it definitely seems like a great choice for the price, especially with the sound you guys got out of it!

@@DrumsBonedo Thanks. I could make out the 6 stroke roll but not the rest due to the speed I guess. Sounds great! Thanks again.

Gréât vidéo !!!!! How this drum sound whitout mics? I hope not too dead. The pearl select session sing without Mics? Hard to choose between dw performance 22/10/12/14/16, master Maple complète 22/10/12/14/16 , pearl session studios select 22/10/12/14/16 and the pearl reference ( not pure) 22/10/12/14/16. I want a pearl versatile drum for jazz , rock, reggae, fusion , cubain music ,old school music and acoustic music. Any advices are welcome thanks

I had this exact kit for about a year. The floor toms were by far the best sounding drums of the kit, although the matching snare was sweet too. However, I sold them and bought a Tama Starclasic walnut birch for the following reasons. First, the finishes in this Pearl series are so ugly IMO. Secondly, Tama's mounting hardware blows away anything out there but especially the bulky and unattractive Pearl drum mounts.
