I’m getting my first apple watch which happens to be 9 in few days and was wondering which material i go with, after watching the video im going aluminium. Maybe if i like the watch i may go titanium in future releases if they do release this material as now in the iPhone
I'm so in love with the stainless steel but my pocket does not love this ss. I love the appearance of it but I've been watching reviews and the ppl recommend I don't really need the ss. Add additional weight and the price is double. I would buy it eventually but just not the right time to pay $800 for a watch when I have bills. I'm wearing 1st gen SE for 2 years, my watch screen has no scratches. The watch is pretty good, my sister has a series 4 it still working, Just looking for an affordable upgrade.
@@jadevu904 yeah, i feel you on the $800... i just ordered my first Apple Watch, don't usually wear watches at all, but I got the SS v8 w Milanese loop for $525 from Target, they're still in stock in all colors there. 41mm, i think they still have the 45mm for $550, not sure about that one... but since I was going to buy the Milanese anyway, it's by far the best deal on a SS I've found. picked up the silver and graphite and will return the one i like least. anyway, yeah... just thought i'd let you know!
I never relaised the Stainless Steel came with cellular by default - that partly explains the ridiculous gap in starting price. This changes everything for my Series 9 options. Thank you!
@@Moose1032 I ended up sticking with regular old Aluminium (midnight). I was worried midnight would look terrible compared to the Space Black I got every other year, but it just looks like a darker version of space black so that was fine. The stainless steel relies on good straps to make it worth the extra money, but with Apple moving away from leather and switching to their fine woven garbage this year, I decided it wasn’t worth it. The Apple Watch Ultra costs only slightly more than the stainless steel, and it is much better differentiated, so I’m going to try that next year.
My first Apple Watch was aluminum. After 2 years I upgraded to the Apple Watch 6 stainless steel gold version! Having had both my preference is for the stainless steel! I still have the Apple Watch 6 in stainless steel and even though it is a few years old it still looks brand new!
I have a S9 in stainless steel and I think it looks very premium. I like that I can dress it up with a Milanese band or dress down for sport with Nike bands. The sapphire screen is great for the durability.
Did myself a favor and got the Series 9 silver stainless steel 45 mm! Looks like a jewelry item! I was an AW3 user before the upgrade btw. Just perfect!
Thank you so much! Exactly the info I was looking for and much more. Excellent presentation and packed jammed with useful info. I had a first generation Apple Watch. Got the stainless steel and 7 yrs later still not a scratch on the face or body. Recently bought an aluminum Series 8 and after just 7 days had a bunch of micro scratches on the face. As I like to keep my devices for a long time, I'm returning the aluminum 8 and going to a stainless steel. Yes, the $300 jump is tough to accept but in the long run I believe I'll be happier with the lasting quality. Thanks for helping me realize I would prefer the stainless!
Still rocking my Series 5 Stainless Steel AW and even though the glass is cracked it still holds up pretty well and looks more classy then the regular model.
Stainless steel is the way to go. I’ve had two, and they are extremely durable. I’ve never had a scratch on the screen. The price stinks, but they last.
I always buy the stainless steel version. I’m still rocking the series 6 stainless steel version an no scratches on the screen. The screen still looks brand new 😎 I update my phone an watches every 3-4 yrs. So most likely will be upgrading this yr along with my iPad Pro
I was able to source a brand new S8 45mm stainless for half price. I upgraded the band to the Ink Sport loop in 46mm and I’m so happy with my buy! I don’t plan on putting a screen protector on this one so I will be buying Applecare plus in a couple of weeks! Thanks for your review🙂
You’re 100% spot on. My first Apple Watch was aluminum, until I found a good deal on a stainless steel. Now I can’t go back to aluminum, and I’ve tried. It’s just such a beautiful looking piece of tech and I constantly get compliments on it, I have the stainless steel series 7 45mm in graphite, with a graphite Milanese loop.
This video so far has been the most helpfull!! Very well explained! I was in between the series 9 gps+cell 45mm or wait till the series X but after i saw the ss 9 omg ive decided im goin for the ss 9 45mm in gold!!!!! Thanks for helping me decide!!
I’ve been looking for this video. I’ve got the series 4 with cellular and the series 8 GPS. Both in aluminum. I really wanted to go with stainless steel for the stronger sapphire glass on the 8 but it was a gift so I wasn’t going to complain! I’ve also got a lot of micro scratches on the 8 after only 10 months. My series 4 looks better and I’ve had that since 2018. I like the idea of the Ultra but don’t want such a big watch.
"harder is more brittle" is one of those technically true, practically false things. With how the sapphire is mounted and its overall thickness pretty much anything that would break it would also break regular glass in the same accident. Sapphire crystals have been on regular watches for a long time and it's very rare to break them.
I love the stainless but I will upgrade if the next gen has significant upgrades. For me and my lifestyle, I work from home, go to the gym, yoga and walk the dog with the frequent visit to the grocery store,…, the aluminum will be just fine 😅 it goes perfectly with all my sweats and T-shirt’s ( I did get the apple 8 45mm in starlight aluminum)😊
I really like my S5 titanium, but sadly they didn't make them for the S8.. hopefully it will come back. Definitely going to get a SS version for my next watch, I think it is well worth it for the better materials. Like you said, they look basically brand new even after years on the wrist. I pass mine on to my wife so it is important to keep it looking good. Most new improvements are iterative so there is no real need to upgrade as often as you might think. Might as well get the nicer one. Thanks for the video!
@@Cantendo Good idea. I will see what September brings. My wife is on a S3, so if I upgrade she gets my old one. She is happy enough with it though. Might be holding off a year, no rush.
Is buying aluminum and applying a screen protector to it a good alternative to the sapphire glass version? (regarding the scratches on the screen, my only worry)
That’s what I did but there’s only one style protector worth buying imo, it’s the glass one that curves around the edges and uses a UV activated glue, no bubble and you can’t even tell it’s there Amazon $20 for a 3 kit
Don’t use a glass screen protector instead use a silicone one. Trust me, it will also work with a case. I use a premium transparent case with a screen protector and it looks 10/10 and it’s fully protected for 30$. Go for the silicone one and thank me later. There is no need to spend 3-400$ when you get it covered for 30$. 💪🏻
I wish I watched this before buying my Series 9 aluminum GPS+Cellular. I can’t stand micro scratches. Guess I will have to get a protective screen a very thin one that isn’t noticeable. Thanks for the great video I was just 6 months to late
I’m not sure if the power buttons have a different feel between them…like my steel has a much quieter click and the aluminium is much louder in click on the power button…
It will always be stainless steel (in gold) for me! It is so much more scratch resistant and the weight is more like the one of a high class watch than of a fitness tracker. Plus, I like that the option for cellular is already built in. I have my AW series 6 since 3 years now and it still looks brandnew! ✌️😎
On the stainless steel, you are not required to set up and use cellular/pay for? You can just use the stainless steel one like the gps only model without cellular?
The cellular is an "extra" function, be it on the stainless model or the aluminum model. You do not have to get a cellular plan for the watch, but typically the carriers only charge around $10 monthly for the cellular feature. The thing about the watch being setup with your cellular number is it actually becomes a phone. You can leave your phone in NYC, fly to LA, and you will receive phone calls, texts, and messages on the watch... truly like having a second phone using the same phone number.
