I'm 35 & black myself, I got into metal when I was 6 years old first song to rock my world was Anthrax's Belly of the Beast; and the thing I have always loved about rock/metal is skin tone doesn't exist. Just the music we listen to and our fellow metalheads. For we always been the underdogs but aren't afraid to stand together.
Completely agree. This black lady was saying that metal belongs to the blacks, and they should charge $5 for every time a white guy plays a metal song, and everyone who saw that comment was shook. In fact, I think the video on which she commented was black veil, by sls
Same here man. My first tape was Metallica's Master of Puppets. Changed my fucking life. A ton of shows, albums and guitars later and still a metal head today and nothing but love from the metal community.\m/
It's hard to getBlack ppl in to heavy music. Little Richard mentored hard rock band Living Colour, who is all black, and said you're going to need support from the black community to really blow up. They never got it, but they did very well, regardless.
She actually performs the softer songs WAY harder live! She is absolutely amazing live! And Alexis is soooo incredibly sweet! She hangs out with the crowd and in the merch booth during the opening acts.
parrottfamily3. Alexis is definitely a sweetheart. I got to hang out with her and the band after the last show I went to of theirs, she took a pic with me after she just got off stage. She was a girly girl then, apologizing for being all sweaty. Badass on stage. She just recently had a second child and hasn't performed in awhile. I've been waiting impatiently for them to go on tour again.
When I saw them around 2008 she hoped off stage into the crowd and came to me and my friend to tell us she loved our hair. Super cool and sweet person. Will always love this band.
I met her at Mayhem Fest 2011 after their set, and you're absolutely right. She is so sweet. When you see her on stage belting out those vocals and screaming her head off, then you meet her, and she has a sweet little voice. I took a pic with her and got my cd signed by the whole band. Good times.
I was surfing on myspace one day a few years ago and came across this band. I fell in love with them instantly. Watching them evolve over the past couple years has been quite a treat. If any of you ever get a chance to see them live I highly recommend it. They usually open for other bands so make sure to be there early and not just for the headliner.
I love that they played for my Middle School before they were famous and I STILL have the shirt they all signed for me. (: I'm so proud that they went from playing for middle school kids to having their own music videos and making it big time.
Wtf is wrong with you guys in the comments? Just because she is a hard metal singer doesn't mean she can't be soft and express her heart in a different way!
I love her voice, she puts SO much in to it when she sings. She's my inspiration. It's a shame that they are not too well known, because SLS absolutely ROCKS YOUR FUCKING FOUNDATION. I try to tell as many people as I can about this band. They really are awesome and unique.
I get what you're saying. She's out of the stereotypical racial boundaries and it's pretty awesome. She has a great voice! Sterotypes suck and I think it's awesome when people break out of them.
This song randomly popped up on my playlist after not hearing it for nearly 10 years and I've forgotten how amazing her voice is, so unique and dynamic with that raspiness just adding so much to it. This is going to be on loop for the next couple days.
2020 sad never got to see em live and found out about the band after he fact def need more blk metal heads ,animals as leaders,Killswitch with Howard,God forbid, oceans of slumber, sevendust, skindred, the veer union ,we are band nerds just ain't enough smh
Had the pleasure to meet the whole band in 2010 in Cleveland, the one guitar player wasn't there because his mother had passed. But the whole band were so nice and down to earth.got to hug Alexis, actually sat down and talked with the band.much respect. If anyone deserves it,its them
She is amazing! I'm so happy that I found this band! Everything about Straight Line Stitches is awesome! And, not trying to start crap, but rarely do you see a metal band with a black vocalist, let alone a black female vocalist. Just pointing it out. It's awesome to see a little more diversity. :D
As a Mexican American mom of a biracial black and Mexican 4 month old daughter; I have mad respect for Her as a African American lead singer in a metal group. ✊🏿💯
I listen to Straight Line Stitch when I need a pick me up. I love this band, she shows us, girls that we can actually be badass and do what we want to in life without showing our bodies off! Heck ya!
anyone who has not yet seen these guys live do it when you can. first time hearing them was live supporting lacuna coil. they are worth watching and listening to live!!
I remember I had this serious relationship in highschool where my ex actually introduced me to the girl and guy she slept with while dating me. I was so angry and lost I got into drugs but when I heard this band I began to cry, it was every thing I felt and it helped :) thanks Alexis
i love her nd her band they know what there doing the soft stuff or the hard stuff they are a very talented band female metal singers are making a breakthrough!
Love SLS! Alexis is the most down to earth, nicest person I've met. She's gorgeous in person too! But I love Bleeding Heart Theory. Wish they wouldn't of remade it to this
I think this is the first female vocal i have seen that has both a decent growl and a decent clean vocal. I see these videos are old. I hope we get to see more good stuff from this band.
Alexis is such a sweet and down to earth person! I met her and the band at Mayhem and they were the only band I had a genuine conversation with. "Black" does not describe Alexis, as she does not conform to any racial stereotype. She is just another frontwoman to any amazing band! I can't believe that people these days have the balls to be racist! Our differences are what makes us, as the human race, beautiful and unique.
She may not fall into “racial stereotypes” she still is a good inspiration for BLACK WOMEN out there as there’s not much representation for black alternative people in general. It’s not to be a stereotype or to point out she’s black. It’s to point out the fact that she a strong representation of this part of the community and certain races don’t conform to the normal generic stereotypes like rap and being gangster.
My brother was there tour manager when they first started. Loved the band the first time I heard them. Every member in the band are such good people. If you ever get a chance to meet them, you will love them.
"Oh my God! A metal band doing [pop rock]. They are sellouts." 1) This is just hardrock. Maybe pop hard rock (from a female singer, it would usually have lyrics like this anyway), but definitely not that pop shit you think it is. 2) Metal bands been doing softer songs every now and then, since Sabbath and Kizz. I only been deeper into metal for about 6-7 years (into rock since I was 13 though, 27 now), and even I know this. C'mon, people.
Amazing. Love all these new woman vocalists in metal. And a black woman. Rare. Sorry but true. OMG. I love her. She's beautiful. Amazing voice. So happy my friend sent a video from these guys. I'm hooked.❤
saw them last yr for our anniversary hung out with them too they gave us a free t-shirt and autographs and now we are going to see them almost exactly a yr later for our 2 yr anniversary
I'm 35 & black myself, I got into metal when I was 6 years old first song to rock my world was Anthrax's Belly of the Beast; and the thing I have always loved about rock/metal is skin tone doesn't exist. MultiMix metal is love. We all have the same love for the music.
Completely agree. This black lady was saying that metal belongs to the blacks, and they should charge $5 for every time a white guy plays a metal song, and everyone who saw that comment was shook. In fact, I think the video on which she commented was black veil, by sls
MultiMix Good words Bro!
MultiMix thats right.were all the same.i listened to metallica when i was 5.do you like any other metal bands?

It's hard to getBlack ppl in to heavy music. Little Richard mentored hard rock band Living Colour, who is all black, and said you're going to need support from the black community to really blow up. They never got it, but they did very well, regardless.
One of the most underrated bands ever. A lot of people don't even know who these guys are...man are they missing out.
Alexis is one of my top favorite female vocalists on metal music.
Scream or Clean - I can't get enough of Alexis' voice!
I just love everything about her. Fangirl. Lol
When I saw them around 2008 she hoped off stage into the crowd and came to me and my friend to tell us she loved our hair. Super cool and sweet person. Will always love this band.
Got to hang out with them after their show at The Chance. Amazing artists, sorely missed 😢
I met her at Mayhem Fest 2011 after their set, and you're absolutely right. She is so sweet. When you see her on stage belting out those vocals and screaming her head off, then you meet her, and she has a sweet little voice. I took a pic with her and got my cd signed by the whole band. Good times.
God I miss this band. My daughter and I saw them 9 years ago and they are amazing. Alexis is very nice.
Alexis is nice is the understatement of the century. This is the sweetest lady you'll ever meet! I miss them too!
I saw them at a Rockstar Mayhem Festival (I think) and was a fan beforehand. I remember loving them in concert and really "felt" her vocals.
She came out to talk to us in line. Even with me being nervous and awkward she stayed and vibed 5-10 mins
Ugh her voice gives me chills, beautiful and so talented.
I was surfing on myspace one day a few years ago and came across this band. I fell in love with them instantly. Watching them evolve over the past couple years has been quite a treat. Jesus, she's gorgeous, her voice is fucking unique.
True that.
Yeah , her voice is awesome
agree i just dont get why they arent more famous. they sure deserve more.
Wtf is wrong with you guys in the comments? Just because she is a hard metal singer doesn't mean she can't be soft and express her heart in a different way!
Thank you!!
=)
Exactly!
So true 💙
Dustin Goodman well spoken
I love her voice, she puts SO much in to it when she sings. She's my inspiration. It's a shame that they are not too well known, because SLS absolutely ROCKS YOUR FUCKING FOUNDATION.

This song randomly popped up on my playlist after not hearing it for nearly 10 years and I've forgotten how amazing her voice is, so unique and dynamic with that raspiness just adding so much to it. This is going to be on loop for the next couple days.

I listen to Straight Line Stitch when I need a pick me up. I love this band, she shows us, girls that we can actually be badass and do what we want to in life without showing our bodies off! Heck ya!
I commented about 10 years ago about how awesome this song is. I keep coming back to it.
You should check out the original version called "bleeding heart theory" it's a lot heavier.
Was explaining this song to my hubby and he found it for me! Haven't listened in forever. Love it! :D
Um...listening to it again...I'm like 0.0 ....I mean, REALLY listening to it.

I love her scream but honestly she has a beautiful soft voice also.
she is an amazing singer, and my favorite band
anyone who has not yet seen these guys live do it when you can. first time hearing them was live supporting lacuna coil. they are worth watching and listening to live!!
I love how she moves her hands while she's saying the words, kinda like talking with her hands, but singing
This music is so late 90s. I love it!
I miss the music during that era, it was the best!
Listened to SLT for years, not disappointed yet!
Songs like this should’ve been a childhood anthem
I need their albums in my life... wasnt able to afford them at the show in my home town recently but I am on the hunt.
I remember I had this serious relationship in highschool where my ex actually introduced me to the girl and guy she slept with while dating me. I was so angry and lost I got into drugs but when I heard this band I began to cry, it was every thing I felt and it helped :) thanks Alexis
Her voice is out of this world she has her own swagger its the shit!!!!!!!!
It's just amazing, the amount of dedication she has to have in order to master the many different styles of vocals she uses in her music.

Perfect amime opening
Anime*
+BlackRainIsWet Not really. Its a good song but I can't think of a single anime where this song would fit as a intro or outro.
what about persona?? ,berserk?,
How to stop listening this? :3
You can't.
As I suspected :3 xD
My brother was there tour manager when they first started. Loved the band the first time I heard them. Every member in the band are such good people. If you ever get a chance to meet them, you will love them.
All these songs are bangers!
"Oh my God! A metal band doing [pop rock]. They are sellouts."

I love Alexis, she used to be my aunts roommate! Such a sweet soul, with an amazing voice.

The best song ever created will forever be BAR ROOM BRAWL
