    Yeah man. I find the fetishisation of the Model T to be completely baffling. There are a billion ways to get absolutely crushing doom tones that don't cost 500 bucks, nevermind 5000. It's insane. Save your money, buy gear that works for sensible sums and have funds left over to do cool shit. You could record an album with Sanford Parker, then take your band to tour Europe for the cost of a Sunn Model T FFS...
    And BTW, Sunn 0))) used them for the same reason everyone else did in the 90s/early 2000s: because they were a cheap as fuck alternative to a vintage Bassman. They paid POD Go money for theirs...

    Give away or not (thank you for that!), at 1:19 you really spoke from my heart. I think the same goes with the Boss HM-2 'Made in Japan' or the RAT with the lm308 chip. It's utterly f'in ridiculous. There is almost zero difference in an A/B comparison (which often just comes down to small differences in the production on the same parts) and it's indestinguishable in the mix... Just my 2cents.
    As for the comparison: they are so close, it proved that the amp isn't worth it, sorry. I would have liked to hear it in the mix, at least with some drums. Then the difference would probably have vanished.

    • @FuzzedDrones

    another thing a lot of people don't realize is that not only would you most likely not notice really any difference in a BLIND test, but every individual sunn model t will have very slight differences because that's the nature of manufacturing and tolerances.
    I think this video proves the point very well

  • @GuiGuiGuiGuiFR

    Now push the Model T master volume over 3, then you can reach the equivalent volume on Pod and I think you will see the difference. My model Ts are all giving their real voicing over 3 on master volume. 5 to 10 is gold.

    I've been waiting on this video for so long. The moo)))n jump has been a favorite of mine. Love it with my Quilter problock 200 into a 412! So much powa! Using its emulation I finally understand why model-T's great and want one (or specifically a JPTR Titan).
    I'm surprised how close it is on just the amp. Especially on the jump setting which adds more complexity turn the amp and the amp simulation. That's remarkable.
    Also interesting how they responded differently to a pedal with the line6 having less Bass , brighter and having a bit more clarity. Could that have been addressed with the bias, biasx and sag to tweak how it responds higher input volumes?
    How did the settings on the amp and line6 model compare when you got them sounding close? Were they similar?
    Great video. Much appreciated 🤟

    I took a close-up picture of Greg Anderson and Stephen O'Malley's amp settings, and tried setting the Moo)))n Amp on my POD Go to match, with a "RAT" pedal in front of the "amp". Their amp settings are very different from each others, so I tried them both. Didn't even come close to a Sunn O))) type sound. I have a NAM profile of the Sunn Model T that is much closer, and with a RAT-clone plugin, it gets me there. My EQD Acapulco Gold also gets the sound on it's own. But the POD Go just couldn't "find" the sound. I'd love to see your POD Go settings. Or maybe post the preset somewhere?

    I had a POD Go when it first came out. I loved it and stupidly sold it due to temporary financial problems. I should’ve kept it. The POD Go and Amp head sounded too similar through my iPhone speaker to tell. I wonder how a good ToneX capture would sound by comparison. The ToneX One pedals are even cheaper than a Go, granted they’re not multi-FX units and only hold 20 spots for captures.

  • @nathanmachine-
    @nathanmachine- 4 месяца назад +1

    imho there is a difference between the two, if you are paying attention but if there was just background music you could get away with switching back and forth as the differences are not huge.
    with boost, ie distorted the differences seemed minimal to me. but with fuzz, there’s something a bit “wrong” with the pod tone, like the fuzz is a detached treble static thing that’s not part of the core tone.
    and low gain/clean, i think agree with the viewer who said there’s a blanket over the pod tone. it’s all usable of course but it reminds me of a mix before you put gullfoss on it.
    conclusion: have no idea if it’s worth it but i’m pretty sure there are tonal differences that you can hear except with a boost taking it to distortion.
    that being said, 378 amps making the best model t amps in europe, for less than model Ts on reverb so i’d recommend people think about that option also.
    great vid dude

    Awesome comparison! Although I preferred the sound of the genuine Model T, it’s really impressive how close the POD Go got particularly as the price a Model T goes for nowadays puts them well out of reach of the majority of players.
    In isolation you can hear a difference for sure but you put them in the context of a band mix, I’m not sure it would be quite so clear cut.

    I think there are enough reputable clones of the Model-T now that you're likely better off, being that all the components are new and the QA is good. They're loud so you're either a collector or you legit have a use for it live. The real thing is awesome though. I would get a clone in a heartbeat if I didn't already have 2 150watt vintage beasts from 1970s. And while both fairly clean compared to the T, any dirty pedal in front works fine

  • @Adamnoisetog
    @Adamnoisetog 4 месяца назад +1

    I'd definitely say that the Actual Model T and the Line 6 had a different sound, but more so in the way that Digital units/modellers recreate the sound of a tube amp. It's not a worse sound by any means, and I would also say that in a mix I would not be able to tell the difference, and if all I saw was cabs on stage and it could have been either, I'd have no idea.
    The thing for me with modellers though is always get something to push it through a cab - the difference is monumental. That's coming from a guy that spent 2 years with a Kemper going direct to FOH and using in ear monitors and I've just moved back to using amps and cabs again with a Torpedo Captor for my monitoring system. Difference there is night and day in how it naturally feels in the room with an audience and your band!

    Pahahaha! Let one rip! 😂😂😂
    That was a decent comparison. Really enjoyed that …. Not over the top. Must say the pod did really well. And if you can get the same tone / sound with a not cheaper but less expensive options … why the hell not! And you made a great point that for the massive expense of a model T it’s only a one trick pony. Painting yourself into a black corner doesn’t do you any favours and certainly leads to a boring and predictable style of playing. It’s like being a visual artist … got to flex with processes and styles and hone in on your own vibe and feel. Allow yourself to learn and be adaptable … excellent to know the Burps haven’t subsided!! 😂😂😂 🙌🏻🖤🤘🏻

    This is kind of why for my bass rig, I do all my actual tone by playing style and pedal board and am very flexible on what I use to power big volume. I just feel it's not worth it anymore to get a big, heavy, expensive tube head when I can get great sound with a lot lighter equipment. Even lighter actually than my 2 guitarists who both use Kemper heads.

You can get 95% of the way to exactly what you want, but that last 5% is going to cost you 10,000 dollars. For example my Gibson sg is not 1500 dollars better than my Epiphone SG. Fucked. I’d say be satisfied with 95% and console yourself with the full liquor cabinet/stash box you could afford with all the left over cash. In the end the audience can’t tell the difference.
