Update....
Turn off the "HD" / "sub" channel
By push the home button , Audio, on this screen with the "station" lower left tap on the screen
Then tap the off "HD"

Thank you this helped so much in my 18 wrx was honestly considering replacing the whole system before seeing this. I was shocked at how horrible it sounded stock. I found this worked best for me (listen to a bit of everything but mainly electronic music, hip hop/r&b, and rock) 60Hz=+5, 250Hz=+6, 820Hz=-1, 1.6kHz=+1, 5kHz=+4, 16kHz=+5.

You just saved me from buying unnecessary equipment -- was real disappointed with the radio from the first listen on the lot (made my Mazda3's audio system sound like heaven in comparison!). I knew there had to be some way to figure out the system because there was no way it could've been THAT bad from Subaru and I'm glad somebody really got it to share with us.

Check your oil
Every couple of weeks till I know what the engine is using.
My crosstrek burned oil from day one.
And this one is no different. Plus this has a prime problem. If the car sits for over 2hrs it all drains back into oil pan.
This is actually awesome, I've seen a couple of other videos where they said that they had the magic EQ settings but my ears tell me that you actually did find the magic combo! I was wondering why I couldn't hear the tweeters at all, and after playing with the settings shown it made sense.
I ended up doing some modifications to what you did since I had installed an Alpine Power Pack, Kicker tweeters and sub. Vocal imaging is set to +3, virtual bass is off, sound levelling set to mid. I went with the alternate EQ setting(3,6,-2,0,5,6) since it made the bass sound alot cleaner & hit harder than the EQ setting you showed.

Thanks for this. Made a huge difference in my 2017 WRX. These settings are cleaner and more dynamic than any of the other guides I've seen, and absolute light years ahead of any of the factory preset EQ options. I have the Kicker upgraded speakers on order currently (doors and tweeters) so I'll see what those add to the mix, but even dead stock the suggestions in this video have taken the sound from "absolute trash" to "respectable."

I've had my 2017 WRX base model a week now. I found that running everything through my power amp app on my android phone via bluetooth makes the radio sound MUCH better.

My 2016 Impreza is just set to one of the factory settings but I’ve been trying to get more bass because the stock speakers are actually decent 😂

Man, this video needs to come to the front. I never fked with vocal controls and wish I did. This is the quick way to do a basic fix. Now it still needs more RMS, but it works for now.

My ac is very good, cools down in just a few minutes on a 92 degree day. I do have ceramic coated window tint the whole way around though. Even without the tint, it wound probably still be almost as good. Yeah, I would get it checked out.

+David Behr's This made a WORLD of difference. I can't believe I been missing all these other spectrum of sound in my music. Your setting made my song sound more boomy and more pronounce! I can't believe the stock bass and impact preset sounds like tin can compared to your settings. Thanks for sharing! Also, I'm thinking installing a sub woofer soon too, should I set the some of the lower end to be 0 and let the subwoofer handle that?
+ChrisDman depending on how u hook up the amp ...
If u take the easy way out and use the "high" pass witch u tap into the wires next to the speakers the you will need to leave some bass and rase the level up on the amp and if it has a internal "crossover" then u will need to cut all frequencies but the two bass tones out
And then you will be able to almost pin the radio volume on high, because you will not be pushing much bass at all to the door speakers..
If you do low pass well that is a whole other story and not sure u will be able to on stock radio
But with a amp and sub you will get even better sound out of the system

David - when I drove a premium I was disgusted by the stock stereo like you. almost tempted to pay an additional 2k for the HK package. are these settings enough to make a pretty good sounding stereo?
Well it's not like a stereo in a Honda or a Lexus
But it will get the job done
I found that this setting that I posted is a starting point I still tweeked it out a little after the video and depending on station, input, area ur in, radio will sound slightly different.
Also I might just be me but this A/C sux!
Very bad I have to bring it in and see if they can do something.. My FJ with 70+miles has colder air...

That must be the stock system. Just to check out the settings you show here, I tried going through your steps exactly and I dont have that option. Mine is a Harmon Kardon though. Im pretty happy with it anyway. Loads of punchy bass.

I used your settings noticed a big improvement , but my speakers seem to not have the right range overall
good 2ways may help and matching dash tweeters, I noticed on my Maxima that same thing but when I got JL audio for the deck and front doors they are 4 ohm ,while the factory is 2 ohm, the radio was too weak to play them without an amp, so i added a alpine PDX-V9 and a JL audio enclosed 10 in. sub it made all the difference in the world , I also thought about changing the head unit - I have a pioneer AVH-x8500BHS in my closet. All this i took out when I bought my WRX except i left the door speakers in the Maxima

Yea it is a good idea to change out the speakers
The dash "tweeters" I don't think r the problem
Just the doors.
But if the head unit is not putting out good signal the speakers will sound bad
In my FJ I had changed only the head unit and the sound was amazing.
I'm thinking to do a 4 channel crossover right from the head unit.
This will intercept the signal, then the crossover will boost the signal and clean it and send the right signal to the correct speaker..
I.e. 120-60 to sub (back doors) ect.
I may try that first.
I'm just looking for nice clean sound not to blow every window out of the car. Lol
Do yourself a favor and get the Subaru Kicker Speaker Upgrade, a 4 channel amp (I did the Alpine Power Pack), get a sub (I did the JBL 12 GT Bass Pro), and last but not least, do sound dampening in the trunk, under the rear seats, all 4 doors.....you'll forget this stock system ever existed

In my 16 WRX I put in a Pioneer double din touch screen stereo and Rockford Fosgate speakers. Soon getting a sub and amp. Factory sounds like crap no matter what you do. I took out the factory door speakers and LOL'd at how tiny the magnets on them were (they're about the size of a quarter, no joke)
I just think for what we pay for the car the radio should be at least "normal" quality.
My wife's Kia comes with a touch screen nav with sub... A KIA... And sounds great

+David Behr's Subaru not known for great stereo systems. AC doesn't suck, it blows cold, but impacts engine performance a lot. You lose a ton of power with AC on and it shifts sluggishly

Im owning a 2017 STI but in my setting i cant activate the grafic for the equalizer...juts got the basic High,-mid and Basstune plus the direction where the sounds should come from. Any ideas what im Missing?

I just finally did the Kicker tweeter upgrade on my '16. They did help with the clarity - a lot. Between your suggested settings and the tweeters I'm going to call it good on the audio front.
Is there a HU firmware update for this? These settings aren't available on my 17 WRX Limited

That is the auto volume.
U can turn it Off , low , med, or high
I have it on low.
Press home , the gears, in that menu u will find it.
How did you get to that first screen? On my 18 premium I can't find that screen and when I go to settings that PTY settings don't exist.

But no matter what you do you won't get that deep bass you are looking for
You will need to throw at least a amp and sub for that.
I notice on my 2018 Subaru BRZ as well the radio is crap. You have to turn the volume up so far for CDs ( as compared to radio) that you hear squeaks in the silent portions of songs. Anyone have a suggestion on replacements?

David, For both, I agree it sounds bad stock. I just couldnt follow how you got from one setting page to the next. I just leased a 2017 limited in lapis. Luv the car, I had a civic si for a year and put on 20,000 miles. After doing alot of research I realized the wrx is what I wanted. A Little worried because I thought I smelled clutch under the hood, not sure, the engine compartment gets really hot on this car. Alot of new car fragrances. I did start out in second gear a few times just now, maybe the car can't handle that. Probably just start out in first gear from now on. Any thoughts on this from you and others would be appreciated.

David, maybe I am starting out on the wrong source setting. Does it make a difference whether I start on am radio or XM? Either way II cant find the balance after I tap Audio (the music symbol). Not sure what 3 down means. Can't find vocal control.

These cars have little low end torque get the rev’s up before letting the clutch out.
It’s a see saw affect gas pedal goes down clutch comes up.
U can even “bump” the clutch up on this car it will make it a little easier.
And for hills till u get better pull the E-brake up rev the car slip the clutch a little then slowly let it down.
It will give u more time and u won’t need to Panic .. it will even give u more time then hill assist.

... Curious too; however, our 2019's 6.5" starlink is a different hu than 15-17s. My bass is soo boomy and loose, even w/bass set to -5/-6 it sounds like trash. I'm still looking through all the settings, but haven't found much.

@@RoxyASC23... Thanks. I've moved fade to all front, centered as best as possible w/the [stupid] digital crosshairs - free floating digital adjustments are dumb. Mid and treb have been bumped up to +2. I'm afraid I too will need the tweeter kit and eventually the front upgrade kit. The Monsoon system in my 04 GTI sounded sooo much better and it had knobs for adjustments. Enjoy. Cheers.
I'm assuming this is for non HK audio package wrx?....I ordered the 17 limited with navi...if that's with the regular audio do you think I would have to do that with my HK or no? (if u have any experience with the HK audio package)

But if you can let us know if the bal/vocal is in it and u need to adjust it, that would be great

I remember seeing a comparison video on the audio between the two and even through a video the quality between the two were very noticeable. unfortunately my wrx does not come in till closer to august :( ordered before end of may. hopefully someone else can answer these questions for us.
