While Joel may've destroyed the potential of the world's future, from a character perspective you *completely* understand exactly where he was coming from.
@@jwroot The world will be just fine without man on it. Joel did the right thing to save Ellie. Humanity has sent countless species to extinction, now we get a little taste of our own medicine.
This entire show is an absolute win. not only for us people who love The last of Us but also for people who love video games in general. This is a huge step forward in the right direction .
I agree. It stayed faithful to the integral components of the source material while simultaneously managing to improve upon small aspects. This is the best big screen/small screen adaptation of a video game to date.
@@Shockkings0714 Prove me wrong then lol. Arcane is like 90% original stories based off written lore/backstories. Edgerunners is an original story connected to the game. Castlevania is loosely based off the games. they're NOT ADAPTING an already written story like TLOU. whats hard to understand ?
That transition from The Last of Us theme to All Gone (No Escape) was so smooth. I loved this track the most of the TV soundtrack, I think. It really changed the tone of the scene for me - playing the game this part can feel almost heroic. The TV version really doesn't leave any room for that - this is a tragedy that's going to have devastating consequences.
They sealed their fate when they decided to kill a child without her consent. Not only that, they screwed over the deal they made with Joel in the beginning and wouldn't even let him say goodbye. Also, the supposed "cure" wasn't even guaranteed, it was a maybe. Besides, the "cure" does nothing when the zombies tear you apart. It was only a tragedy for the Fireflies, they fucked over the wrong man.
@TyrDrum The answer may be "simplified": Joel narrated the story of failing to commit suicide due to loosing the sense of life for passed away daughter. Fireflies effectively reproduced the situation. I'm sure if he walked out of the hospital, he would complete his unfinished business because it would be unbearable for him to loose it for the second time. So, from the perspective of him, Joel made everything right: he took his last "impossible change" to make everything right for himself or die trying.
@@TyrDrum the game left it more ambiguous. Joel came across as more of a hero. Most gamers empathised with Joel in proventing a unconsented sacrifice, which is why when the second game tried to treat Joel as a villain he backlash was so severe. With the show, the creators tried to rectify that mistake by making it more obvious that Ellie would've wanted to make that sacrifice, by putting in elements of Joel needing to take care of someone for his own selfish sense of purpose, so they can portray Joel as more of a villain without having viewers immediately hate Abby
The way they implemented this soundtrack and the way all other sounds were drowned out by it was so good. It expresses that Joel is set on a single goal, and nothing else matters. He must save Ellie, no matter the cost. Losing a daughter again is not an option.
This scene and soundtrack combined was one of the best bits of cinematography I've seen in quite a while. Making sure the audience sees things exactly as they are. Make it too focused on the fight and people might view it as a cool action scene. Show nothing and people won't understand the gravity of what Joal is doing. So they filmed it at odd angles, focusing on Joel's boots, dropped shell casings, him coldly prying weapons from the hands of men he'd just killed, and the straight up executions of multiple fireflies. And as the music swells, so does the violence, mass slaughter juxtaposed with extremely solemn beats that clearly reflect the tragedy of what's happening onscreen. What a scene!
In the game he kills more brutally like instead of shooting the doctor he grabs the scalpal and stabs him in the throat. He also shoots the Guy who says "F**k you" 4 times until he says where ellie is
Couldn't have given a better explanation then that. Exactly the same way I felt, loved how when he shot the first guy we hear the shell drop, and then how the music becomes drowns out pretty much everything and all we hear are the gunshots, Joel went into beast mode, took no prisoners.
Great description. I'm glad they didn't make it the typical action scene we've all seen countless times. Also good that they went for something different than the game. Brilliant scene.
This might be my favorite scene from the show. This soundtrack mixed with only hearing the gunshots PERFECTLY captured the horror of what Joel was doing. It's like we're so glad he's saving Ellie but simultaneously mortified at how ruthlessly he mows down anyone in his way. This is one of the few moments I'll give to the show over the game. Having no objective but sitting back and observing Joel really makes you sit with the weight of his decision. This is one of my favorite implementations of musical storytelling ever.

@@connorgrossman7867 hell yeah Joel is a tank, just imagine seeing him in his prime and using his killer instincts to survive and destroy anything that crosses him.
I know I'll get some flack for this. We always say, "of course I'd choose my loved ones." I can't say that if I was I was in Joel's shoes, having gone through the same, I would give Ellie up. I'd fight for her. But to REALLY see what that means. That from most people's perspectives (the people in that world, not us as an audience) you become the "bad guy".
I really love how you extended the cello bit at the end of the song from the TV show at 1:33 and made it even more emotional. If HBO somehow has an extended cut of the hospital scene, this would be the perfect score to go along with it.
When I replayed the game after watching season one, I noticed this actually is the music they used from the game. I'm glad I can keep this in my lists.
Joel was a broken man. He had got nothing to lose. And he had made peace with the way he had been living his life. His eyes were full of pain, he didn't even need to tell people that he was in pain coz his eyes were there to make people understand his condition and then outta nowhere Ellie(an orphaned kid similar to his daughter's age) came into his life and not only the circumstances brought them closer, it was ellie's efforts too, she made him feel things again, she made him realise that she was alone, without parents, heck she didn't even know what does it feel like to have a protective father in your life? She was equally broken and was desperate to have a father like figure in her life and Joel's presence made her feel more that she had no one in her life whom she could call her family. So, both were equally broken and empty inside and fate brought them closer and Joel again became the protective father he once was, and that's what ellie wanted too. So what wrong did he do when he massacred whole hospital staff and fireflies just coz he didn't wanna lose his sarah once again? He didn't want to be left alone once again? He didn't wanna feel that pain again? Don't you guys do the same if your child was there laying on the bed, without knowing whats actually gonna happen to them? You all, who are busy in calling joel horrible, would have done the same my friends. Its easier said than done that i would have loved to see my daughter getting killed for the purpose(that was a big "maybe") wasn't even guaranteed. He did NOTHING WRONG. he had already gone through that horrible pain of losing his daughter and didn't want to experience it again. So, you all need to stop being a moral police for once and need to start looking at things with Joels perspective too. And i know whats gonna happen in S02 and showrunners have already made it clear that there won't be any big changes so I (im purely talking about what i think of s02 only) so no need to come here and tell me.. i am weak n all this crap.. so, if they are gonna stick to TLOU2, then, get joel killed in the finale of S02, so that it doesn't feel rushed, introduce abby, make us feel for her and then make her take her revenge, this would make more sense than killing him off in the beginning without giving any proper start to abby's arc. Show got fame not just coz of Ellie, i know many non gamers who fell absolutely in love with this show coz of Joel's acting and character so better stick to what the title says or don't bother making S02 at all. Coz one thing im sure of is.. that killing joel early might bring a massive drop in viewing cos many people already don't like ellie. So, kill joel for sure, but not in the beginning and don't make him villain. He was Just A GRIEVING FATHER WHO LOST HIS DAUGHTER WHEN HE ONLY HAD HIS DAUGHTER IN HIS LIVE IN THE NAME OF THE FAMILY.
Joel is definitely the bad guy in this scenario, but at the same time when I put myself in his shoes, I know I would do the same or die trying. Joel is a fierce protector for the ones he loves and that’s deeply inspiring to me. Love is truly a powerful emotion, and sometimes it is capable of influencing people to commit atrocities if it means protecting/avenging our loved ones.
What if they went through with it and it had the same result as every other cure attempt that ended in failure? I really liked that they had Joel talking about how futile all the other attempts were earlier in the season. They had Ellie question whether it would work. What if they killed the only immune person and wasted this incredible gift? What do you think Joel would do? This felt like fate. They would have failed and she would have died for nothing. Joel would have killed them all in retaliation. In the context of Joel's character - he is protecting her from selfish people who'd do anything for a world they want back.
Fungus can't can't actually have a cure it's since shit but I did my research in the psat and there is nothing to do with it plus the fireflies were millita so they deserved to die they were stealing food and stuff from the qzs
@@mbovb006 it’s very well done for sure, Joel is protecting her from selfish people, but at the same time being selfish himself by preventing any possibility of a cure. We understand why he does it, we can hate him for it or support him. But no matter what no one is right
this song is an exact reflection of all the feelings i felt from each episode and just in that moment of joel rampage there was a relief of all those emotions and then i cried. i can relate to that exept the appocalypse part and thats very true never give up trying to find something or someone to fight for (i try to express myself as much possible im french its very hard xD )
I think that this whole scene was perfectly made to where it really shows Joel's absolute rage and love. And THE MUSIC-- the music is just so sad but is also filled with anger. Also, it really shows how sad the scene really is. Joel is a broken man, and everything leading up to this moment has reminded Joel of his failure and has sparked his fear. Sarah, Tess, failure to protect the people he loves. Henry and Sam, the reminder that failure would probably end up killing him and/or Ellie. In this scene, Joel is so filled with rage and sadness, and love. And because he has failed to save the people that he loves, he will do ANYTHING to save Ellie NOW; even if that means that he absolutely massacres the Fireflies, and THAT is absolutely horrifying.
@@thegerman662 The piece they used in the episode sounded like they truncated out a part of the soundtrack, and used a crappy fade effect to blend in the two smaller audios. I really like how they filmed the shootout. Brutal and raw. I wasn't terrified or surprised, between the way it's filmed focusing on the blood and the deads and the music I was just sad. It's a very sad thing. No matter the intentions behind or the motives what Joel is doing is terrible.
I love this version of the song because it has this essence of this decision will be Joel's down fall. This choice will have ripples and that through saving someone else you have damned yourself
I feel bad for every adaptation from game that turn into live-action they all crap, but this, so much expectation and yet they delivered this story in such fenomenal way.
To be fair for me this theme sounds like something that could perfectly fit into the Metro 2033 live action series - there is perfect balance of dread, despair, anger and... hope I guess. Hope for better tommorow, like desperate grab for something thats making us humans. I don't know but as an Metro fan I would love to see an adaptation like this for that franchise but thats unlikely - as for the theme itself - its amazing.
That's great actually! There is a lot to Discover. Check out themes like -Metro 2033 Main theme, Mobius theme from Last Light, Farewell, Sunset, Race Against Fate. All of those gives a Vibe of this theme for me
Honestly saving Ellie trigger Joel old killer instinct like he was in his prime days as smuggler and on top of that Joel had military training back then when before he had Sarah

When the world needed to take his baby girl again and he said, "No."
This scene was absolutely incredible... it was very unique imo.. it felt beautiful... yet brutal but without any glorification of violence... just a few very well shot angles... a great score and a stunning camera lens... i loved this scene a lot and same time felt a bit of angst for what it means going forward..just really beautifully done imo...
This theme is fucking insane, I had chills watching this scene with this music.
Wooow, good job my friend!
Thank you!
neil druckman wanted this to be a scene where you’re supposed to hate joel. not a chance.
This is an incredible piece of music.
Amazing work, dude! Beautiful orchestration!
Thank you!
I understood Joel’s pain. I would of done the same. I love my family and friends. If I gotta go through hell then I will.
THIS SCENE WAS EPIC
Never underestimate the lengths a father will go to in order to protect his baby girl.
WOW THIS IS PERFECT.
I love how accurate they were with the main weapon he used, the M4A1. With the carry handle, iron sights, and sling clips. Might just be me nerding out but I appreciate it.
Man I wish I can go back to the first time I actually got to play this beautiful game growing up as a teenager in my book it’s the greatest story ever in a video game
Honestly wouldn’t mind this to be the intro to season 2 like how we got the original music for this season
The game is a masterpiece
@@tristanyang3135yea I can’t even count how many time I’ve played the first and the second first is my favorite Joel is tank
@@connorgrossman7867 hell yeah Joel is a tank, just imagine seeing him in his prime and using his killer instincts to survive and destroy anything that crosses him.
@@connorgrossman7867 I bet your patiently waiting for more last of us announcements for the next upcoming game, just like me lol.
this is beautiful. thank you for this!
I don't care about becoming the "bad guy" when I know 99% of people would do the same if it was their love one on that table
absolute chills, I'm in love with this music, so many emotions overflowing with this one!
I really love how you extended the cello bit at the end of the song from the TV show at 1:33 and made it even more emotional. If HBO somehow has an extended cut of the hospital scene, this would be the perfect score to go along with it.
Joel was IMO justified with every single shot he took
I didn’t even know this was a cover it sounds that good
Jesus, this soundtrack is just extraordinary!
JESUS CHRIST I didn't even know this was a cover until the end when I read the comments!!!!
So good 😢😢😢
Thank you!
This music has both a beauty and darkness to it and that's just like the scene, Joel is doing something terrible out of love.
Great arrangement! 👍
Just listening to this makes me wanna cry
I will only say one thing, I needed it, thank you
Omg the complete song is even better, so many feelings, I love it
Never try to take away the daughter figure of a father that already lost his daughter...
Grogu: Daddy go, save little sister you must. Space trip to McDs we will go.
Well put
But no matter what no one is right
It's literally no bad guy in this scenario.
this song is an exact reflection of all the feelings i felt from each episode and just in that moment of joel rampage there was a relief of all those emotions and then i cried.
i can relate to that exept the appocalypse part
and thats very true never give up trying to find something or someone to fight for
(i try to express myself as much possible im french its very hard xD )
Pareil pour moi, parfait choix du compositeur! (totalement compréhensible t'inquiète!)
Should have that background alarm going too, WeirWeirWeirWeirweir
Stellar job on the soundtrack
This scene with this soundtrack made me feel goosebumps. An Epic moment indeed!!
Really great visual. Thanks.
3:10 holy 🔥
I think that this whole scene was perfectly made to where it really shows Joel's absolute rage and love. And THE MUSIC-- the music is just so sad but is also filled with anger. Also, it really shows how sad the scene really is.
Joel is a broken man, and everything leading up to this moment has reminded Joel of his failure and has sparked his fear. Sarah, Tess, failure to protect the people he loves. Henry and Sam, the reminder that failure would
probably end up killing him and/or Ellie. In this scene, Joel is so filled with rage and sadness, and love. And because he has failed to save the people that he loves, he will do ANYTHING to save Ellie NOW; even if that means that he absolutely massacres the Fireflies, and THAT is absolutely horrifying.
"You never appreciate what you had until it's gone"
"No, just never thought you would lose such things."
"all gone" put here, one word: CHILLS!
This part at 1:07 actually sounds better in your cover than it did in the original episode
I think the original was being more grounded and gave a bigger beat
@@thegerman662 The piece they used in the episode sounded like they truncated out a part of the soundtrack, and used a crappy fade effect to blend in the two smaller audios. Maybe most people didn't notice, but as someone who's listened to All Gone (No Escape) countless times I thought it could have definitely been more polished lol
@@SceneSurgeSnippets I played the original game when it came out and have all the versions. I was there when the remastered version came out and Part 2. I never forgot all Gone (No escape)
This soundtrack and scene are beautiful!!! The best adaptation of a video game ❤️
Any show that does this, has somber like music with no voice while the character is doing something it's automatically deep. Because we don't need to hear voices, just the music telling us what the character is going through.
Thankyou universe....for this series...a new series with great imdb...feels like a true blessing
Amazing job man🔥
God damn it, it hits hard 😢 For having play the game when it was originally released and the remake in September, I assure you it's sumptuous, I felt everything 😢😢😢
The music is telling us that Joel's fate has been sealed in Season 2.
I really like how they filmed the shootout. Brutal and raw. I wasn't terrified or surprised, between the way it's filmed focusing on the blood and the deads and the music I was just sad. It's a very sad thing. No matter the intentions behind or the motives what Joel is doing is terrible.
This gives me goosebumps
Wonderful arrangement, well done!🥺♥
Thank you!

@@hellodepressi0n well merry Christmas. The more you know
Incredible work!

I love this version of the song because it has this essence of this decision will be Joel's down fall. This choice will have ripples and that through saving someone else you have damned yourself
fits to well
that violin to strike the heart is just too good
I love the scene because it's not only fuck badass but also show how Joel it's not a good guy, he's a broken one
This is incredible 🔥
🙏🙏🙏
I feel bad for every adaptation from game that turn into live-action they all crap, but this, so much expectation and yet they delivered this story in such fenomenal way.
The way he effortlessly dropped Abby’s dad in this show had me dying…lol
i need 10 hours of this on a loop
Absolutely brilliant, thanks for this. Broke my heart for the 6th time.
Not familiar with the Metro franchise, adding it to my list:)
That's great actually!
There is a lot to Discover.
Check out themes like -Metro 2033 Main theme, Mobius theme from Last Light, Farewell, Sunset, Race Against Fate.
All of those gives a Vibe of this theme for me
Thanks for the recommendation !!
@@simus479Metro Exodus - last version 2019
I wish there was a metro Exodus tv show, it will be so fascinating to me as a fan
Magnifique!
Glad I to hear this on RUclips
Wished they played this all the way through at the end. Use the last little bit for carrying Ellie to the elevator like in the game
Same. I also wish they had the surviving fireflies chasing Joel while he's carrying Ellie like in the game.
Honestly saving Ellie trigger Joel old killer instinct like he was in his prime days as smuggler and on top of that Joel had military training back then when before he had Sarah
In the game it feels amazing, but when I watched the series I realized, it's not about the infected or surviving anymore, it's just about an old man who doesn't want to lose another daughter again.
"if the Lord gave me a second chance, I would do it all over again"
Best Final Theme Ever!!!!!! :,)
