The PC SJWs are too offended by him. They say he's racist which the charater is but most of the jokes / laughs at his expense. Loved watching this . Always made me laugh.
R He only died a couple of years ago - he always acted older than he actually was. Warren Mitchell was only a few years older than Una Stubbs who played his daughter in this program 😮
This was when we could laugh at ourselves. It was the time of the old jokes an Englishman an Irishman and a Scotsman walk into a bar. The English guy would be a Toff, the Irish guy would be thick and the Scotsman would be tight with money. All characterises of each of them. No one complained about bigotry attitudes it was just a laugh. Nowadays you get arrested for hurting someone's feelings.
pokeaman I will not be replaced Well, actually back then some people WERE concerned about bigotry, including Johnny Speight, who created and wrote the Alf Garnet programs. Then, as now, many bigoted or racist people said how great it was to have a character like Alf on TV, totally missing the point that Speight was making, which was that the Garnet character was a piss take of people like THEM. And it seems that some people continue to miss that point......
@simonmoore2380 we don't miss the point, we are stating that even tho it's just a case of take the michael out of racists and bigots however these days you can't take the michael out of anybody in case you get labled a racist you get persecuted for stereotyping people even if it's all in fun, it's just wrong these days just plain wrong.

I bought the DVD set for 'Till death us do part' . The show before this one. The set says on the case that it did not cover all episodes because they were lost or copied over. Amazing.
Ome of the many best from decades long gone. I used to watch this religiously as a young child and now in mid life it shows the great social divide here in England
This is comedy at its best it’s sad Dandy was ill but she put up such bravery in these episodes a brilliant cast and actors may the actors who have passed away rest in peace
I couldn't stop laughing, we don't need the PC brigade. Just have great comedy characters like Alf and just let them talk. Then people will really understand what being bigoted is. So very funny. Dandy, what a lovely lady, a true professional even though she wasn't well. Some of the best moments was because of Else. Ken Campbell, a brilliant entertainer, I wonder how many people know he was considered for the part of Doctor Who back in the eighties, around the time this series was filmed. But BBC bosses felt he came over to scary for children. So the role eventually went to Sylvester McCoy.
I was born in the mud 70s and loved watching this sitcom aswell as many other English comedies. Comedies back then and earlier showed a number of prejudices and many social and political divides through the country and nation
I'm watching this in august 2024 where in the UK there is now mass censorship , tyranical government and comedy is a thing of the past..But for now im transported back to the good old days watching Warren Mitchell at his best ❤ xx
What a Brilliant show, as was till death do us part . Great actors and actresses, many thanks to the BBC for facilitating the production and transmission of these great comedies, rest in peace Alf
Too bloody funny that is for sure. Puts American comedy to shame. I live in America all of my life but have been watching British comedy r since the sixties, because it is so much funnier.
Americans, you need to watch One Foot in the grave which came onto British screens in the early 1990s. Victor Meldrew is the name of the main character and was the 90s version of Alf Garnett
Johnny Speight would still be highlighting the bigots who have passed on their bigotry to their kids. He'd still have a big audience to take the piss out of.
Jonnie Spiets scripts were well written but Warren Mitchell who played Alf Garnett was superb. He knew how to play Alf to a T. Brilliant situation comedy and fantastic acting.
We ought to have all these old comedies from decades back retelevised on national tv. Times have turned back, back into torie corruptive ruling and shows like this are more current than to the other rubbish they have aired now in this millennium.
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view!" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment?
Alf Garnett Is a white version of Pakistanis talking loud, is always right ,taking liberties, think they own the rd while driving very loudmouth and no manners, I should know from experience
She actually did in Till Death Us Do Part. In the 1974 Christmas special, Else leaves Alf to live with her ill sister Maud in Australia. Dandy Nichols was very ill herself at the time, and she had not been getting on well with Warren, and decided to quit the show. Series 6 and Series 7 of Till Death never featured Else.
I think this first series with Dandy Nichols was as good as Till death us do part, but after Dandy passed away it lost something, very sad how much she failed in the few years between Till Death... (1981) Were Alf, Else and Min moved to Bournemouth and this series (1985)
This is real British comedy, that continues to entertain.ta to you tube , for continuing to provide the episodes. Well done You Tube
Ken Campbell. Brilliant as Mr Johnson. Classic British comedy from our time growing up in the 80's.
He was the driver in episode 1 whose car Alf kept blocking with the wheelchair!
Warren Mitchell died in 2015 at the age of 89. R.I.P. Warren, and thank you for all the laughs.

Scotty,, phone calls cost a fortune back then.
Just a quick mention for the incredibly talented Ken Campbell playing the part of the grumpy neighbour. Shame he's no longer with us.
@Joseph Preston yeah spot on
Was the sarcastic one in the Fawlty Towers wedding party episode.
I always remember Ken Campbell as the crazy Gin and Tonic man in Fawlty Towers Anniversary episode! Una Stubbs was in that one too!
Womberto Biaggi yes he was brilliant but not appreciate enough mak cdf
was ken a ventriloquist
Brilliant and hilarious, this is real comedy, Alf says what we are all thinking.

Once Dandy went and they brought in Alfie Bass and Patricia Hayes, the show went down hill.
