      To be fair The Silent Hill Collection was more them being suuuuuuuuper stupid and not having the hindsight to keep the original codes for the games. The reason those were wonky was cause Konami threw out the originals and the team had to basically rebuild the games from a beta build of the games, not helped that most of the people who worked on the games had left by that point.

    Kinda disappointed you didn't mention microsoft's efforts to bring classic games back. This is unacceptable.

      I probably should have, but I don't have an Xbox One yet so I wouldn't be able to record footage directly~ I plan on getting one for Kingdom Hearts 3, since assuming Square does their port right the XOX version will be the most feature-complete.
      But yeah, Microsoft's been mostly hugely good about their past library. Xbox 1 support came out of nowhere and is kind of mind blowing. Like, they could have easily gotten away with just not allowing original Xbox games in the disc tray and selling them digital-only, but they went the extra mile. And from what I've seen, 360 games outright run better on the Xbox One, as well.

    I kinda already got the idea that Sony had no respect for their legacy when they needed to be raked through the coals in order to convince them to actually have PS1-era characters in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, and all we got for it was Parappa and Sir Daniel.
    This adds fuel to that thought.

    • @Gamechamp3000
      @Gamechamp3000  6 лет назад +71

      (and Spike and Sweet Tooth and Heihachi and Toro)
      (Metal Gear predates the PS1, too, though not the specific character representing it)
      (plus the final boss is PS1-era promotional material)

    • @linkno1
      @linkno1 6 лет назад +9

      +Cynical Joker But they all (except Metal Gear...Unless we say 'Solid' specifically) started on the PS1. So even if Crash and Spyro were in the game, by your own logic you would still be complaining about lack of legacy representation since their last games at the time of All-Stars release, regardless of whether people liked them or not, would have been released on last gen consoles (PS3/360/Wii.../Wii U), not PS1 (yes, I'm calling Skylanders a Spyro game, because it technically is).
      It probably has more to do with licencing that Spyro and Crash weren't in All-Star as like many Sony exclusives from the PS1, Sony doesn't necessarily hold the rights for them, the PS1 was just the only console capable of having those games at the time (back when consoles were physically very different, unlike now where there's no real reason a PS4 and Xbox One can't play the same games)...Much like how Final Fantasy was never truly a Nintendo exclusive, Nintendo just had the hardware to run it, until they didn't.
      True that you could say the same for like half of the cast, but that could be for a variety of reasons. I would personally say looking at the licence holders that Universal/Activision probably expected way to much for them to use the characters since they are greedy bastards....Especially since Sir Daniel was in there. It's hard to imagine they would include him but not Crash and Spyro if possible/plausible because he was a pretty niche character.
      This is why Smash works for Nintendo. They own the rights for all their exclusive characters, so it's only ever going to be a small handful of 'guest' characters that may not make it into a sequel. Sony hasn't always done that.

    • @6letterss
      @6letterss 6 лет назад +2

      The worst part was seeing Spike being his form from an unreleased outside Japan unpopular sequel as advertising, similarly Dan while faithful had his stage be the awful modern remake of level 1, similarly we got Raiden instead of Snake just to advertise Rising
      We could have had Smash Bros sony, instead we got a giant ad board
      Edit: also no Crash or Spyro, which ironically got bought back by naughty dog now

    • @Speletons
      @Speletons 6 лет назад +7

      Crash and Spyro were unofficial PS1 Mascots though. Sony didn't own them, and PSASBR tried to get them in the game but Activision owned them.
      Many games that started on the PS1 were represented in PSASBR, the fact that they had sequels on the PS2 and PS3 doesn't invalidate that.
      Both of these arguments, being Kiddo and Cynical Joker, are ridiculous.

    • @Speletons
      @Speletons 6 лет назад +5

      Crash and Spyro absolutely did not get bought back by Naughty Dog, I don't know where you heard that but don't spread that false info around.

    Gamechamp, it isn't JUST sony though. Squareenix has been having this same problem for a while now. It goes not just from remasters and rereleases, but to simple straight ports. Chrono Trigger rerelease on steam, The secret of mana remaster, Nier: automata, and 2014's thief: All of these are (well, to varying degrees) broken, buggy, glitchy, and just all around bad releases.
    Which is a shame: I was looking forward to playing chrono trigger on my pc (unemulated, you know what I mean); a remake of secret of mana, a title that I, and many others, loved and held dearly for the super nintendo? Sign me up, what could go wrong?; One of the highlight games from last year, praised all around, why not give it a go?; a reboot of a highly successful and critically acclaimed series? Why shouldn't we try it out?
    I love square's games and series. Who doesn't? But these are shameful releases, chrono trigger is a straight port of the *IOS* version of chrono trigger, not even the original game. When the completionist did the secret of mana remaster, it crashed on him over *30* times (which is simply ludicrous), I PERSONALLY had nier:automata completely crash and had to restart twice within like, 3-4 hours, which is actually painful because of the saving system in the game. And thief? wow, where to even start. Let's just go with cutscenes playing, but not playing the audio AND making the subtitles flash for half a second each.
    I'm frustrated with these bad ports and remasters, not just sony's or square's, but in general. It IS unnacceptable, full stop, but they aren't showing any signs of slowing down and FIXING their games. Heck, in nier's case, that was left up to the fans to develop a fan patch (which doesn't entirely fix everything, but it is a FAN fixing THEIR game, so, you can't expect the world out of it.

    • @Gamechamp3000
      @Gamechamp3000  6 лет назад +21

      This video is more focused on classic games being ported to modern platforms. While it's certainly annoying, I consider it less concerning when a new game like the Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana remakes are broken than a port of a preexisting title. The remakes are clearly distinct from the original games, and will be judged on their flaws separately from the original; a port, meanwhile, is a direct representative of the original. A good game unfairly given bad representation, as opposed to a bad game rightfully earning its bad reputation.
      When it comes to ports; Square has done the best I've seen in gaming. The Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy collections had significant effort put in to make them the definitive releases of each included game (Kingdom Hearts 2's drive load times being the only major faux pas).

    • @stevenn1940
      @stevenn1940 6 лет назад +3

      As far as I know, chrono trigger is a port of a port, but I digress.
      And that's fair. I guess I just have a bigger bone to pick with quality control of larger studios in general. And that's fair, square HAS done good ports, and a good number of them, but it's a lot easier to remember the bad and frustrating ones.

      Gamechamp3000 I remember seeing somewhere that the KH HD releases are actual built from the ground up, which would I think, counts more of a remake than a port.

    • @supremecocktusleader9959
      @supremecocktusleader9959 6 лет назад

      Yeah, Chrono Trigger's steam release was, to my knowledge:
      A direct port from the mobile port of the DS remake of Chrono Trigger.
      (It might have been a mobile remake, not a port of the DS. Not 100%)
      Which means it was originally a remake, but the ports are of the arguably definitive edition of the game. So I think it'd count as " A good game unfairly given bad representation, as opposed to a bad game rightfully earning its bad reputation."

    • @Gamechamp3000
      @Gamechamp3000  6 лет назад +9

      That was specific to Kingdom Hearts 1, and rather than them being "built from the ground up" it was that they'd lost the original game files and had to jerryrig it by ripping everything they needed from a retail disc. Still, a substantial undertaking, and evidence of how much more effort went into that collection than most others.

      Can confirm in regards to the cited reason, at least to validly reference and implicitly true. Atari started getting not only really bad quality games, but some of them got outright pretty inappropriate. (I'm aware that at least one deliberate porno game exists) It was bad enough that what got NES to sell in NA was it being a toy, thanks to ROB, something that didn't seem to exist for the Famicom. This is also why NES games got seals of approval, so families can know what games were safe buys, though from what I hear, some game devs produced fake superficially similar seals so that they could dodge Nintendo's check point but still get an NES game on the market. (Nothing in the law says you can't make an unwanted product for a system, apparently)

    PS4 versions of PS2 games work through emulation.
    The issues you mentioned also exist in the PCSX2 emulated version of Jak 2 when running the game in hardware mode.

    You do have to realize that the Jak & Daxter games (along with Ratchet & Clank) were developed using a custom programming language/assembly lisp made by Naughty Dog (Ratchet & Clank ran on the same tech as Jak with several tweaks by Insomniac) and were designed specifically for the PlayStation 2.
    Simply trying to port it to a system it was not designed for is easier said than done since the developers of these ports have to work with the programming language used in the original games and get in working order for current generation systems, and because of this, it's almost never a 1-to-1 port of the original.

      The problem isn't that they weren't able to get the game to run; the problem is that they're selling the game under the false pretense that they DID get the game to run. The game is in such a state that it shouldn't be available for sale in the first place, and even if they were absolutely dead-set on releasing it, it should feature much more specific and overt warnings as to its stability to purchasers; instead, it has a trailer that acts as if the game is better than ever and a vague disclaimer that gives the impression any issues are small and infrequent.

    Why do people keep saying the intro aged horribly??? 3D all stars has some problems - the limited selling window, the lack of improvements or new content, the high price point... but the port job was the ONE THING they got RIGHT! Sure, 64 is a bit dissappinting but even that is absolutely not WORSE then the original - and the other 2 games, sunshine especially, both work great and LOOK great - even with sunshine being widescreen now, nothing is stretched, it all looks nice. Only issue with the port i recall hearing of is the dev cubes in the bonus levels, and those look normal, a new player would never know its an issue unless told so. The one thing that 3d all starts did well is just making the games playable on switch, and also making the definitive official way to play them. Fans have done better, sure, but comparing this to sonys laughable ports is honesty crazy. Well... theres the recent nso n64 games - yeah, those are problemtic, cant excuse those, but even those games (which get way less indivisual attention as theyre part of an ever expanding subscription), while being overpriced and kinda broken, still work far better then what we see in this video.

      I’m glad I’m not the only one who acknowledges how stupid the blind hate for 3D All Stars is. Is 3D All Stars an extremely lazy product made as a quick cash grab? Oh absolutely. But, does it contain completely botched and overly glitchy versions of 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy? HECK NO! If anything they are objectively IMPROVED versions of those games albeit with extremely minor improvements.

    I remember why I played the Ratchet and Clank HD Collection on PS2. It was my introduction to the series. I played the first two games five times each. I played the third game once before backtracking to the first two. I played quite a few rounds of the online multiplayer, had a blast, and decided to go back to playing Going Commando for a while. When I came back to Up Your Arsenal, the save data for the single player was deleted. Also, my console would freeze every time I played the online multiplayer for more than a few hours.
    When I played the game over, I got to my fifth and final playthrough. After buying the R3NO, I went off to Metropolis. In Metropolis, I went to the store and bought a whole bunch of items that were for sale. When I opened up the menu, quite a few glitch weapons were unlocked. I decided to play along (I'm not a judgmental guy), as well as level them up. I went to use a weapon called Paradox ERR. My game froze and I restarted the console. I trudged my way through the game and ended up getting to the final boss against Dr. Nefarious. My Nanotech was down to five, the original amount from the start of the game, despite my having upgraded my Nanotech to the highest level. The skybox was way smaller when I was dropping down at the beginning, and I was unable to avoid any of the missiles that were being thrown into the air. Upset that I had gone this far and was unable to beat the game, I decided to look up solutions online.
    I found that the only solution to the Paradox ERR glitch was to open up a debug menu and delete the weapon that was the cause of the whole issue. I was appalled by how Idol Minds were so incompetent that they managed to insert a feature that was not in the original release, and overlook it through development. I decided to keep the collection for the online multiplayer and travel to a Mom and Pop Shop, where I bought the PS2 version of Up Your Arsenal and beat the single-player that way.
    Idol Minds is one of the worst companies in the history of gaming. They are worse than ActiVision with how little effort they put into their content. The only reason to buy the PS3 collection is the online multiplayer. Probably, the only reason why Sony or whatever sap ported the Jak collection did not add the online multiplayer to Jak X is because they wanted to eliminate any chance of some normie playing the collection and ruining Naughty Dog's reputation.

    I never understood why they would re-release the PS2 version when they had a remastered PS3 version for the 3 games. And then they won’t release a proper remaster because they think people were uninterested, when actually it’s just because we didn’t want to buy a malfunctioning PS2 emulated version.

    Gamechamp3000 I had a similar situation and honestly I'm glad you spoke up that's what a lot of us fans need to do to get Sony to hopefully listen. Anyway I was feeling a bit nostalgic and so I bought on PSN Rogue Galaxy one of my favorite action RPG's for PS2. In the description it said that the PS4 could emulate games faithfully but that some things might be different from the Original PS2 version. I guess by different things they ment glitches because I stumbled across a few of them like the sound popping up when loading a game or opening the menu and framerate drops here & there but the game is playable for the most part although it did crash on me once. So I called Sony to get a refund but they said its not possible once they game is downloaded after purchase and I tried a few times after that explaining my situation thoroughly and even asking for a supervisor but they still flatout said NO! apparenly they're very Draconian with their non refund policy. Now I get that Sony likes to focus more on the here and now but still they can make a lot of money through older games too so I hope Sony takes a page from Nintendo and Improves their classic games lineup now & for the future cause us fans like to take a trip down Nostalgia lane every one and a while.

    The Jak and Daxter games have such complex coding and were so tailored around the original PS2 hardware, including the fact that it had a built in PS1 in it, that even Naughty Dog themselves have admitted that porting them properly is a herculean feat. So im not the least bit surprised that these ports have so many issues--that theyre even running at all is a miracle. The Ratchet and Clank games are in a similar situation too...

    Those sorts of glitches are usually caused by porting the game from one engine to a different engine. Porting games causes things in the game to be optimized way differently, and if the game isn't re-written to perform well on the new engine, the game will likely lag profusely, or exhibit graphical and audio glitches.

    The problem doesn't stem from apathy at sony, it stems from sony not being the developers of Jak, Ratchet, Sly, or almsot any games. They aren't like nintendo where they build their hardware specifically to tailor to the games that they remake. Look at any 3rd party port ups on Nintendo consoles and you see the same level of care as Sony takes. The difference is that Nintendo gas dealt with "remastering" exclusively 1st party games.

      Naughty Dog is part of Sony, so Sony is the developer of Jak & Daxter. Same for Sly. Also, their re-releases on PS3 of Jak trilogy, Sly trilogy and Ratchet & Clank trilogy were good (not as good as Nintendo's re-releases, but good overall), is not like Sony couldn't make it, they just lowered their standards.
      Nintendo doesn't "build their hardware specifically to tailor to the games that they remake", they chose their hardware to be able to run well in a handheld device and before the Switch they barely made any remakes because they had backwards compatibility for recent systems and decent emulation for older systems.
      Their change in hardware caused this flow in remakes.

    If I remember right, Naughty Dog actually used the PS1 processor in addition to the PS2's Emotion Engine to simultaneously run the game (Even though they weren't quite supposed to). I wonder if that contributes to some of these issues with emulation. I remember they ran into some roadblocks with that when making the Jak HD Trilogy on PS3
