Sega had really great timing to make me hyped for VF5REVO and VF6 now. i agree with the concerns especially with some of sega's history, but i also feel like you gotta put some respect on VF. they were doing things in 2002 that modern fighting games are just starting to catch up to. i didn't play much VF5, but VF4:Evo was so ahead of its time it's crazy. - vf4:evo has, to this day, one of the best tutorial modes in fighting games. it was integrated into training mode, it had explanations of tactics relevant to all levels of play, and it had drills integrated into the explanations to get you to actually apply the concepts. it's like the tutorial mode from UNIST but like 15 years earlier. i still remember it blowing my mind with evading-throw-escape-guard option selects. seriously, if you've never played it, emulate it or look up some videos, it was insane for the time. - tekken 8 straight-up xcopied its quest mode, word for word, bar for bar. it's the exact same shit except it's still not as good. - the customization was insane! every character had 50+ unique items you could earn and customize your character with. no microtransactions, no DLC, all on-disk i'm sure there's more, but you get my point. even if they just repeat the stuff they were doing in 2002, they'll be pretty competitive with modern games in some aspects. if they can bring that same level of quality to the additional things modern gamers expect then we'll really be eating good.

The challenge is going to be making something that can satisfy those new fans without alienating the VF boomers who've been waiting 20 years.
@erichthegraham I've been saying for years that the only reason Kiryu isn't in Tekken is because Sega is saving him for VF. They're not giving that star power to somebody else.
@rogermarin1712 might as well go deep and get some Fighting Vipers too, maybe a Shinobi character (though that's a little redundant with Kage). Streets of Rage has potential as well.
I’m just excited that we’re getting a new VF game. I’ll let everyone else worry about its place in the industry and whether it’s gonna be a success or not. No use worrying about something I can’t control
I think they need to keep simple to work, because everyone is complaining about the "rush driver" , heat mechanics and armor. Maybe is the right choice.
People complain about swingy mechanics like that, but then turn around and call games without them bland or sauceless. I wouldnt take those complains as really indictive of what people want/would actually play
Def retain the simpleness to some degree but channel the spectacle somewhere else. Also find a way to keep the flow of the matches to rematch loop seamless and quick. At some point T7 players were def clowning at the netplay load times having to watch the burger king flame effects for what seems like an eternity before the pre-match intro scenes played (and skipped). If that is the case I don't think anyone would bring up the lack of extra bogged down mechanics.
Those complaints are definitely indicative of what I want to play. Tekken has been losing me for years. I hate all that bs they've been putting in their games. I want a pure fighting game, not whatever tekken has become.
I'm so hyped for good netcode. I live all the way up in northern europe and I've not been able to match with more than like 3 people since final showdown dropped. Next one is probably a good while out still, I hope vf5 getting a pc release helps bring in more people, especially if it can get into tournaments and things. REVO is only 15 buck, so it's pretty low cost of entry at least. Really looking forward to seeing it at FF in january, it's such a good spectator game.
20 seconds into the video and I'm already thinking about those bands who make a reunion comeback after decades and release the most introspective concept album of their careers ("what does it mean to be a Virtua Fighter?"), but it's a different market scene out there now.
Someone at RGG Studios and SEGA really loves Virtua Fighter it seems. Which is good because there should be more 3D fighters. I think RGG Studios will bring their knowledge of mini-games from Yakuza games to this for casual gaming experience to pull in the newer players. VF5 REVO is my first Virtua Fighter, and from what I've played in beta, I already love the feel and the looks of the game. I hope people start making some beginners guide because it is kinda hard picking it up.
the rerelease being put out for $16 is crazy, most companies would be asking for $60 to milk the diehards and wondering why noone else showed up. i think a lot of ppl are gonna be hooked in by "budget tekken", and maybe fall in love enough to pay $60 for a new one
Just releasing Virtua fighter with no changes to the mechanics at all would constitute it as a new fighting game in this era. No game plays like it. Still even to this day. But I agree some things could be added to improve the gameplay flow
Coming at it from the best angle, per usual lol. I’m an old head that’s been waiting for this moment for so many years. I am so stoked, man lol. It’s definitely a cool time for the old veterans, being able to teach an old game to a new crowd
I probably won't play it but I hope it's pretty successful so Tekken has more competition as a 3D fighter It would also be cool to see a historically important franchise stay relevant and successful
i hope it does. Sega is hoping the new era of streamers/content creators can make it popular. Japan's scene doesnt need much support but the west needs it big time.
Good video, you usually have a good perspective on fighting games and the scene. In my opinion, the focus for Virtual Fighter breaking through and becoming a thing that people globally care about, should be developing a great package. People might disagree, but Street Fighter 6 set the bar with focusing on having a good system and core mechanics (which keeps players coming back), and also having some content for absolute beginner players (modern scheme, and the scope of the single player mode). I think that should be the lesson to take from its commercial success, and what happened with games that came after it. It's really a tight rope act to pay attention and invest resources on those two big chunks of what makes a game, especially if your mindset from the jump is to straight up ignore one of those. I hope that the team shows some cool ideas with this new one, Virtua Fighter is a really special franchise in the genre.
Sega has a golden chance to swoop up the tekken fans that don’t like the new direction of that series too. I just played some VF5US as one of those people and it’s neat but it also feels like a 20 year old game lol. I’m excited for new VF but I also know if it wasn’t for Aris or Bronson, I probably never fall in love with Tekken.
I don't know, a common complaint of Tekken 8 is that the gameplay is very aggressive and doesn't really favours defense that much; and Virtua Fighter being such and aggressive fast pace game, doesn't sounds like the must appealing alternative for a Tekken player (all of this assuming the new VF game won't change the gameplay, of course).
At least, difference is, in VF there more interactions between players, as a defenseur you 're always active in that agressive fast pace. StilI, i dont negate that it feel hard for newcomers xD
I was just thinking "who's gonna be the PhiDX/Sajam/Brian F of Virtua Fighter" and someone needs to step up and be that for the new community that will form around the new game. I know I wouldn't have improved and put time into Tekken 8 without youtube videos cause it was my first 3d fighter, I imagine many people are the same.
Yes if they do that, it's 1 Millions sales garanted added for Vf6 and a nice promotion of Sega universe. I'd like Kiryu and Blaze as dlc characters for Vf6. They could also put some easter eggs and references to others Sega game in Vf6.
@@Grandmastergav86 its true that's even how COD works. The vast vast vast majority of sales come from people who just play the campaign and/or coop with friends and then move on you need to bait as many people as possible to buy the game and single player modes help with that the most
I just hope the icing on top tastes good, I’m talking about customization items. I *loved* collecting the items in VF4 evo, Tekken and soul Calibur made it feel like sweepstakes shopping rather than a fashion quest. Akira in the hat reminded me of that.
It doesn't need to be casualised (which is my concern) it is still the best 3D Fighting game around by far. The other contenders don't even come close IMO. RGG don't need to re-invent the wheel.
It needs to be casual-ized in the sense of adding modes, features, and training options, but in terms of gameplay, I agree. VF is great because in spite of how hard it is at high level, fundamentally the game is pretty easy to play.
Im convinced the game will flop globally. It is really weird how confident Sega is about a franchise that has never been much of a long-lasting giant outside of JP. I'll be happy regardless cause I'm used to the poverty of VF but I'm curious how they think they'll capture the generation and a half of players that haven't really been in a position to give much of a damn about VF in an era where the top dogs are super entrenched and games are faster and flashier than ever before. Not that VF wasn't fast or flashy inherently but its a diff rubric being used today
I wouldn't assume it will flop, but hopefully their eyes aren't bigger than their stomach. Its not gonna be overtaking Tekken in terms of sales, most likely. However, people are hungry for a more substantial fighter these days, I think it will find an audience. I think people like flash initially but need something underneath it to sustain the game.
I don't think it will flop. But I feel the perception of people thinking the new VF game will be any ways ground breaking is in way over their heads. This is not a new challenge for RGG who took enough time to turn a niche JP franchise like Yakuza/Ryu Ga Gotoku and expand on it to be known worldwide. But I feel it is still equally ambitious to apply the same for a niche title like VF that was only made familiar to the new generation because it was one of the arcade games in Yakuza.
Incredible analysis and articulation. That is why they named it VF and not virtual fighter 6. They wanted to fresh start for the new global generation.. I can tell they put an enormous amount of research into this game
Very good points here. Sega needs to make sure the new title gives the modern gamer alot to do and the Story mode needs to be solid. RGG has built a fanbase so that helps them as well. As far as the game, people need to actually play the game and commentators need to be able to bring hype during matches.
Very interested to see what VF and the fanbase has to offer To be Tekkens competition isn't easy but I've been seeing a lot of love/interest even though it's been gone for so long
I think especially with the advent of the marvel collection coming out with one button specials and supers, virtua fighter is going to have to show us something engaging for people unaware of its systems to really hook people. I've always liked the game from afar for it's grit and being straight forward with its controls but that same grit sounds like it will kill them immediately in this age of fighting games.
Virtua Fighter is now the new era. I want to see Akira as season DLC characters in Tekken 8. I want a Virtua Fighter live action movie for the 30th anniversary of Virtua Fighter.
im gonna play devil's advocate and ask anyone interested in exploring this question: if virtua fighter has been putting out re releases for quite some time with vf 2, vf3. etc. with moderate levels of success, is that a clear indication that people dont need a reason to care about virtua fighter because there exists fans who missed it and know it's coming back because they know of its legacy, and those who dont know but will know because of all the buzz especially in the wake of 3d titles like sc and doa being dormant?
What's odd about all of this is that SEGA never gave the fans the heads up to watch out for the VF6 announcement. Unlike last year where they gave several people invites to look out for their announcement at TGA that many thought was going to be VF before it was shown not to be.
Are they ready for the new era? Yes, but hopefully fully so. REVO is an acknowledgment that they got some catching up to do (and the beta has been 90% great with some issues that can be ironed out), as well as that upcoming game in the future. This is a positive thing overall. Part of me bitterly still wishes SC got love like this too. But VF is **also** my beloved 3D fighter next to it sooooo we take what we can get!
Sega may have a shoot they have revived old games to a new audience. Figured out how to do it for online game like fantasy star online. I just wonder does that knowledge is transferable.
God I really wish they would bring back Quest Mode, it was a nice and simple way to do FG single player that was also fun to play. No need for a grand story mode like Tekken or MK, just keep it simple.
I’m very interested to see what happens with the new VF roster. Not the starting roster, but what happens after. It’s a notoriously lean roster game. The most prevalent 3D fighter has what some believe to be a bloated roster. Will they add characters or keep it slimmed down?
VF succeeding would do a lot in terms of a sega come back and im sure they know it. i hope it works out. im willing to bet somebody down there has design docs for a new panzer dragoon ready to go.
I really am curious how much of the development is in RGGs hands, or if they are just borrowing the dragon engine. It also looks like the assets are also being used in their Project Century game or vise versa. Either way both games got me mad hyped.
Gotta work their way from the ground up, again. Need to give it all plus their spirit to make VF6 work. On top of introducing new characters and a great flow to the game. Like you said, “think outside the box.” And prepare for the influx, this really could be their last chance in a long time. Don’t want it underperforming or boring.
Great to see such a level-headed take. Even as someone very much into fighting games, it's very hard for me to see what VF has to offer that I can't get somewhere else. I hope the existing VF fans can make a good case for their game without shitting on somebody else's lawn so VF6 can make a decent entrance. The franchise deserves that kind of love on history alone.
From what I've seen, the VF community doesn't indulge in that a much as Tekken, for example. We'll see with the new generation, but traditionally VF is the most mature community when discussing their game. As for what the game offers, you gotta look under the hood a bit to understand that. Look past the lack of flash and dig into the meat and potatoes of the game, if you play VF5 for like a week you should start to see how its WAY different from anything else out there and has plenty to offer.
@user-vi4xy1jw7e is definitely the perfect environment to release in. I can't believe Tekken was able to monopolize 3D Fighters for this long. TBH Tekken is my least favorite of the 3D franchises, I actually love DOA5, and I loved Jacky as a guest in that game, that's a big part of why he's my main in VF. Super excited about VF return.
Its less about the 'general player base' than accepting that 3D fighters even in this 'renewed' era of FGs are an endangered species. Play and experience what you want now because who knows when it could all go away.
I grew up with 3D fighters a lot more than I did 2D ones, VF, Soul Cal and Tekken were my main ones and I'm really hoping VF's new entry gets a *solid* ground to stand on. I'm kinda too out of it to re-learn a fighting game but just through online so I'm hoping the new one has solid SP content too. Revo looks alright but it's very much catered to players that have already gotten into FGs, or VF specifically. Tekken has ghost battles, story mode, SC had the SP campaign. VF needs that SP content to really let new players just get into the game before stepping into the online world.
Any thoughts on the apparent leaked photo implying a gauge in VF? Hope it is something like a Stamina gauge that is well implemented and plays to the realism that they want to emphasize?
Wasn’t old enough so: Never played any of the VF series, it looks cool though. I have friends that would definitely play it, but like he said: I can try but VF gotta convince them, not me
This is a long ass video but it is excellent. pull up training mode alongside it and try some stuff out ruclips.net/video/boM7T3BWewY/видео.htmlsi=2GLCKz6VyFEZRk7t
I think this is the best shot VF is ever gonna get. The RGG name is gonna do a lot of heavy lifting in bringing in new fans.
We should probably expect Kiryu or Majima as a guest fighter as well lol, that would bring in loads of people too

We need guests from Yakuza and Shenmue
@rogermarin1712 might as well go deep and get some Fighting Vipers too, maybe a Shinobi character (though that's a little redundant with Kage). Streets of Rage has potential as well.
@@erichthegraham That'd basically be Fighters Megamix 2. Which could happen if VF6 does well enough. You never know.
I’m just excited that we’re getting a new VF game. I’ll let everyone else worry about its place in the industry and whether it’s gonna be a success or not. No use worrying about something I can’t control
Vittua Fighter is the new era
Definitely gonna gove this a shot i really enjoyed playing virtua fighter 4 in the yakuza game’s sega arcades
VF 2, 3 and 5 are the only ones in Yakuza, you played one of those, not 4
Im excited to see how this all turns out. I look forward to learning this all over again because I haven't played since the 90s
Bro your laugh when they showed the Discord was so funny I almost choked 🤣
They don't know what floodgate they just opened LOL
"Who's gonna be the Brian F of this game?"
Me.
I hope it catches on. I like Tekken a lot but I am super interested in a different 3D fighter especially since SC is dead now.
Agreed
This and DOA are the 3D fighters that I put the most time in.
20 seconds into the video and I'm already thinking about those bands who make a reunion comeback after decades and release the most introspective concept album of their careers ("what does it mean to be a Virtua Fighter?"), but it's a different market scene out there now.
thats an apt comparison tbh
Someone at RGG Studios and SEGA really loves Virtua Fighter it seems. Which is good because there should be more 3D fighters. I think RGG Studios will bring their knowledge of mini-games from Yakuza games to this for casual gaming experience to pull in the newer players.
VF5 REVO is my first Virtua Fighter, and from what I've played in beta, I already love the feel and the looks of the game.
I hope people start making some beginners guide because it is kinda hard picking it up.
Real ones want more Virtua Quest
the rerelease being put out for $16 is crazy, most companies would be asking for $60 to milk the diehards and wondering why noone else showed up. i think a lot of ppl are gonna be hooked in by "budget tekken", and maybe fall in love enough to pay $60 for a new one
true
Tekken may actually be getting what Harada wished for, that is some competitive pricing.
Just releasing Virtua fighter with no changes to the mechanics at all would constitute it as a new fighting game in this era. No game plays like it. Still even to this day. But I agree some things could be added to improve the gameplay flow
As a huge Tekken fan right now, I'm hype about sinking some teeth into a different 3D classic. I just love me some good games.
Insightful and nuanced as always, thanks for the video.
VF has never been the game I gravitate to, but I hope it does well. It'd be cool if DOA and Soul Calibur could come back as well, but we'll see
I'm so pumped that Virtua Fighter is coming back. It would bring a lot of variety to 3D fighters, and can't wait to learn VF5 when it comes to steam.
Coming at it from the best angle, per usual lol. I’m an old head that’s been waiting for this moment for so many years. I am so stoked, man lol. It’s definitely a cool time for the old veterans, being able to teach an old game to a new crowd
I probably won't play it but I hope it's pretty successful so Tekken has more competition as a 3D fighter
It would also be cool to see a historically important franchise stay relevant and successful
Obama absolutely choking at the Discord announcement is a mood
They are gonna make a great fighting game regardless.
I do want to see some more cosmetics that celebrate Sega's history. Like Taka cosplaying as Eggman or Sarah as Alys. Keep the boomer shit coming.
Let's go Sega
Hello the who gonna be the XYZ of VF is me 👋🏾👋🏾. I stay hype
i hope it does.
StilI, i dont negate that it feel hard for newcomers xD
basically put my thoughts surrounding this game into words better than i could, keep rockin', you the goat
I really hope Sega considers giving us Streets of Rage, Shenmue and Yakuza guest characters.
Yes if they do that, it's 1 Millions sales garanted added for Vf6 and a nice promotion of Sega universe.
I'd like Kiryu and Blaze as dlc characters for Vf6. They could also put some easter eggs and references to others Sega game in Vf6.
It needs several casual modes, not only appeal to hard-core / competitive players.
Yep. Most of the sales will be from casual players. And casual doesn’t mean dumb down the game.
Hard disagree on that one.
Add a good story mode and bring back quest mode
@@Grandmastergav86 why do You Say that?
@@Grandmastergav86 its true
that's even how COD works. The vast vast vast majority of sales come from people who just play the campaign and/or coop with friends and then move on
you need to bait as many people as possible to buy the game and single player modes help with that the most
Damn unc got a new camera looking crispy as hell now
upgrade
With Tekken 8 being such a divisive game, I doubt there will be a better time for a 3D fighter to emerge on the scene. I'm rooting for Sega big time
From how the netplay test has been going, they seem like they're doing pretty damn well. Just the lobby features alone are absolutely godlike.
its been okay for me!
Electric Underground has a great video on what makes VF different and unique among other fighters, he really sold me on it. Great video though!
it was a good video
plenty of space for more 3d fighters, i'm kinda hype
Always appreciate your views. Such a nice emotionally balanced energy. But also fun :D
Nominate Tricky Eileen to lead the Charge!
I just hope the icing on top tastes good, I’m talking about customization items. I *loved* collecting the items in VF4 evo, Tekken and soul Calibur made it feel like sweepstakes shopping rather than a fashion quest. Akira in the hat reminded me of that.
True true
Revo rollback beta being iffy in terms of netcode is also worrying but we shall see
I wouldn't assume it will flop, but hopefully their eyes aren't bigger than their stomach. Its not gonna be overtaking Tekken in terms of sales, most likely. However, people are hungry for a more substantial fighter these days, I think it will find an audience. I think people like flash initially but need something underneath it to sustain the game.
People with the recent DLC release getting tired of the over flashy stuff in fighting games as a light
Where was it confirmed that it's just called VF?
@@user-vi4xy1jw7eif they wanted it to be VF6 they'd just call it VF6
With RGG working on this game i reckon Tekken will finally have real competition in the 3d fighting space can't wait to see more
RGG is a blessing but this game has a LONG way to go before that kind of presence can be established (just keeping it real but silently rooting)
@doogies yeah that's fair as you said the series has been dormant for 18 years so they're gonna have their work cut out for them
Very good points here.
Sega needs to make sure the new title gives the modern gamer alot to do and the Story mode needs to be solid.
RGG has built a fanbase so that helps them as well.
As far as the game, people need to actually play the game and commentators need to be able to bring hype during matches.
The PS1 is the reason VF never got big in the west. PS1 demolished the Saturn, so people just didn't play VF. They played Tekken.
On the note of fgc people needing to show off what makes VF appealing, its a damn shame this happens the DAY Rooflemonger got crypto hacked
Very interested to see what VF and the fanbase has to offer
To be Tekkens competition isn't easy but I've been seeing a lot of love/interest even though it's been gone for so long
the best quote before disaster of all time: OMG WE'RE SO BACK
facts lol
Really good persepctive, excellent video.
Thanks man. It's the truth
I'm curious about the 3d levels of the new vf6, it looks like Tekken 4-5 where you were able to interact with objects
Juicebox is going to be the Brian_F of VF. Mark my words.
First, we get the Vtubers.
Then, we get the players.
Then, we get the money.
What's odd about all of this is that SEGA never gave the fans the heads up to watch out for the VF6 announcement. Unlike last year where they gave several people invites to look out for their announcement at TGA that many thought was going to be VF before it was shown not to be.
The great thing about this game is that it has a great welcoming community
My body is ready for VF
Are they ready for the new era? Yes, but hopefully fully so. REVO is an acknowledgment that they got some catching up to do (and the beta has been 90% great with some issues that can be ironed out), as well as that upcoming game in the future. This is a positive thing overall.
Part of me bitterly still wishes SC got love like this too. But VF is **also** my beloved 3D fighter next to it sooooo we take what we can get!
Mama, that bad man posted on RUclips again!
Dont bring realistic expectations to my game! VF we back babEEE. VF putting belt to ass!
I hope the VF figures come out do what you are implying in this video especially for us out here in the west.
Sega may have a shoot they have revived old games to a new audience. Figured out how to do it for online game like fantasy star online. I just wonder does that knowledge is transferable.
virtua fighter will be what tekken was used to be.... all in fun for tekken but its not a grounded game anymore
Never played vf but that new akira design yeah im maining him
God I really wish they would bring back Quest Mode, it was a nice and simple way to do FG single player that was also fun to play.
No need for a grand story mode like Tekken or MK, just keep it simple.
Yes… it need to feel real.. Don't need the flashy cartoony crap
you could follow the aris-tekken7 playbook to the letter and it wouldn't matter if the passion wasn't there. thats on the developers to cultivate.
YES. VF IS READY!!
Hell yea peace to Tricky Eileen!
I’m very interested to see what happens with the new VF roster. Not the starting roster, but what happens after. It’s a notoriously lean roster game. The most prevalent 3D fighter has what some believe to be a bloated roster. Will they add characters or keep it slimmed down?
same! will be interesting to see how it develops
so hyped for vf coming back
VF succeeding would do a lot in terms of a sega come back and im sure they know it. i hope it works out. im willing to bet somebody down there has design docs for a new panzer dragoon ready to go.
The fact that 3D fighters are all but dead (aside from Tekken) is something that it has to offer.
If they avoid the battle pass cancer and the EULA Cancer, than yes , it could be amazing
Are you going to put out a youtube cut talking about your experience at TWT finals?
We know what VF needs to do. Use Eminem's "Lose Yourself" as the track for the 2nd trailer with actual character footage and a release date in it.
Reasonable expectations, but this is still very exciting. We also shouldn't expect everything at launch, and be ready to give them some time.
Any thoughts on the apparent leaked photo implying a gauge in VF?
Hope it is something like a Stamina gauge that is well implemented and plays to the realism that they want to emphasize?
Wasn’t old enough so: Never played any of the VF series, it looks cool though. I have friends that would definitely play it, but like he said: I can try but VF gotta convince them, not me
How you feeling on the Clive announcement btw?
im not lol
tried the beta for the game is so different so unique i dont think i can learn it by myself
This is a long ass video but it is excellent. pull up training mode alongside it and try some stuff out ruclips.net/video/boM7T3BWewY/видео.htmlsi=2GLCKz6VyFEZRk7t
