    I would expect B1G to add ND, Stanford and Cal if ND wants to join. They will stop at 21 (remember, the conference was at 11 for 20 years, so an odd number is nothing new).
    Then expect B1G to set the new standard and go to 10 conference games.

    • @romanmoronie
      @romanmoronie 20 дней назад

      Possibly. But if they go that route look for the 6 west coast teams to be a division of the Big 10; maybe not in football and basketball but all other sports to minimize travel costs for Olympic and low gross revenue sports.

    • @MichaelSmith-xb5cp

      The B1G should abstain from expanding to 10 games until SEC goes to 10 first. 9 and 10 are not equal by anyone's math and it would mean 10 extra built in conference losses over the SEC, who's been ejecting those conference losses out to that 4th FCS or low level G5 for decades, then banging every other conference over the head, with the "look how little we lose" argument, while they limit cross conference pairings to once a decade.

    • @davidbrown386

      Not counting ND & Stanford. In no particular order Schools more likely to join the Big 10 then Cal. 1: FSU, 2: Clemson. 3: ASU. 4: Utah. 5: A&M 6: Miami.

    • @davidbrown386
      @davidbrown386 20 дней назад +1

      I have no inside information, but I can see schools eventually going to a 13 game schedule and 10 of them being Conference games. Why? 1: It would allow big schools to get 7 home games. 2: It is more content for the TV Networks.

    • @CharlesFosterMalloy
      @CharlesFosterMalloy 19 дней назад +2

      Yep, had same thoughts, Stanford not leaving Cal in a lurch. ND could "grease the skins" for both Stanford and Cal-Berkeley. That is how they might all 3 get to the Big10. But they may not want to bust up that current grouping that is also about to get even better after FSU/CLEM (& Louisville) leave. They add Tulane, Rice, UConn & USF and it's suddenly a better group, more interesting. They could pass on WashSt & OrSt but add Navy, Army, Air Force instead. Maybe Colorado St or Tulsa or none others to go with the Service Academies - they're at an odd number now anyway already.

      @thomascoker7703 Since we're coming up on the 100 year anniversary, a little history lessen may be in order.
      After many years idle, KALFORD rejoined varsity football. BY 1924 Stanford was winning PAC, they got an invite to the ROSE BOWL, which by that time had the stadium, The Rose committee wanted to invite Knute Rockne's favorite Notre Dame squad of his career. KAL being KAL, gets on the horn to snipe in Stanford's ear and urge them to refuse the invite because ND is(was) a low grade Catholic institution. While KALFORD are mulling it over. The Methodists get on the horn to ND and convince them to come out to California anyways, they'll step in and play them if Stanford doesn't accept. the Methodists had their panties in a wad because Stanford played UTAH and left them off the schedule even though the Methodists were sporting ir first winning streak vs Stanford . Stanford accepts the Rose, and even though their star running back outgains the entire "four horsemen" combined, they can't find the endzone, and lose. The Methodists use the venue proximity and opportunity to set up their annual home and home with Notre Dame, which holds to this day. It will be quite ironic if KAL is left behind at the kiddie pool, and ND greases some skids for Stanford's entrance into the B1G, it's also quite hilarious 🤣. It all started 100 years ago.

      Stop it. The ND position is already at risk and is downright stupid. So what do they gain by their so called independence? "Oh but they've scheduled MSU and Michigan and blah blah blah". Those games are cancellable and will be if those teams playoff chances might be threatened. Just ask Washington and UCLA.
      Scheduling, the Fed ruling, and removal of barriers are all reasons why ND joins. And for you "But ND hates the Big 10 for what happened 100 years ago", that's bullshit. ND is already in the Big 10 for hockey and if you think football is #1 in nastiness and in your face insults you've never been to a Big 10 hockey game. Not only are they almost always sold out, but the insults are mean and the visiting team can see you and hear you. It's a lot more personal and much much meaner.

    My speculation for the final stage of CFP conference expansion realignment, ending in 2027 due to ESPN's cancellation of the ACC media rights agreement.
    FBS would be broken into Power 3 and Group of 6 conference subgroups with no schools having independent status.
    Unified Power 3 Conference rules:
    - all schools must opt into revenue sharing (all P3 schools must designate the fully agreed upon (House settlement) amount as a floor, while for G6 schools, a negotiated percentage of that would be their floor)
    - all new conference expansion additions would become fully vested by 2030
    - elimination of P3 conference championship games instead adding two more weeks to the season to make a 14 game schedule (10 intra-conference, 2 P3 interconference, 1 G6 opponent, 1 school-choice opponent) (THIS IS HOW THE NETWORKS WOULD PAY FOR FULL REALIGNMENT)
    - B1G (24 members with top 4 making the CFP) adds ND & Stan, FSU & Mia, Clem & GT
    - SEC (22 members with top 4 making the CFP) adds UNC, UVA, Duke, KU, NCSU, and VT
    - BigXII (20 members with top 2 making the CFP) adds Pitt, UL, WSU, OreSt, and Cal
    - 14 team CFP structure (4/4/2/1 AQs, 3 ALs, seeded by a selection committee with the top two conference champions receiving first round byes)
    The biggest losers in all of this would be those three ACC privates (excluding SMU) that ended up being the only schools regulated from power status.
    - assisted by ESPN, the reconfigured ACC negotiates a "severance" fee that the leaving institutions pay in the attempt to make the remaining privates whole
    - ESPN re-works a media rights deal with a lower value that still lasts until 2036.
    - new "FBS Ivy" ACC adds Tulane, Rice, Tulsa for a total of 7 privates and Army, Navy, Air Force, USF, UConn, UMass, and Buffalo for 7 publics

      It's a power 2, there isn't a power 3. Both the B1G and SEC are still adding schools. I figure 24 would probably be the max per conference. So still a few seats available, till the music stops playing.

      @@davidbrown386 Cool, then why does Greg repeatedly keep saying relationships matter? It may not have hurt, but it didn't help. It was good relationships with programs like Wisconsin who could swing Minnesota and Northwestern.

    • @davidbrown386

      “Money talks and BS walks.” Schools like Texas & USC that have had bad attitudes, had no problem finding P-2 homes. ND which is even worse can go wherever they want. Why? The dollar value they bring. FSU which is docile compared to those three schools brings enough $ value for Fox & the Big 10 to take them ( this from someone who favors them in the SEC due to geography and culture).

    If Cal gets left behind, what does that say about the state of California itself? This may sound political, but it’s reality…
    How does the most populist state with the biggest economy in our country (one of the largest economies in the world) mismanage a university so badly that it gets left behind in something like athletic competitions and conferences?
    How much incompetence is on display by these socialists and communists at Cal Berkeley? I could go on … but you get the point… and there’s no true rebuttal; and everyone knows it.

    • @slten12
      @slten12 20 дней назад +3

      There are only four Power 4 universities that have a lower acceptance rate than Cal: Stanford, Duke, Vanderbilt & UCLA. Those aren't exactly powerhouse football programs.
      Truth is it's hard to have a successful football program with such a low acceptance rate.
      There are a couple programs that have a higher acceptance rates but are close to Cal's acceptance rate and have good football programs like Michigan, Notre Dame & USC but they became good long ago (like almost a hundred years ago) before and their football success actually helped improve their academics.

    • @BillKatz
      @BillKatz 20 дней назад +2

      Yeah, it does sound political. You may not realize this, but UCLA is also a Univ of CA school and it's in the BigTen. The reason Cal might not make it into BigTen is because it's not great at the big revenue sports, football and basketball. It's TV money driving everything. Cal is better than most universities in Olympic sports but that doesn't get them a huge TV crowd.

    • @BillKatz
      @BillKatz 20 дней назад +3

      @@slten12 That's the truth. The earlier decisions also hurt high academic schools where recruits have to gain admission before they can commit. The massive increase in transfers also hurts since transferring in is also very difficult, particularly at Stanford. Hopefully Stanford can find a way back to its prominence in football like in the Luck and McCaffrey periods.

    • @NorCalTrojanman91
