Can you find a link to everything you used to fill your tank? I'm having trouble finding things to fill my tank. The thing you used are perfect but I cannot find them online.
Hi everyone, I hope you are all having a great day. I actually only recently come up with the system after lugging 20litre (5 gallon) jerry cans around for 2 years 🤣. This makes doing water changes on loads of tanks or just big tanks in general a lot easier. And the reason that is good is because you are far more likely to do them more often. Water changes definately improve everything in your aquarium. 30% per week seems to be the sweet spot for me once its set up well and established.
@@rjv97 Hose attached by just pushing into the inlet pipe around the bend. Can be pulled out if needed. The see through bit is just a bit of aquarium pipe.
I made 2 small dots on my water tap. One on the handle and one on the side. I simply just have to line them up and I will get the correct temperature every time!
Two comments: make sure your local water facility does not use chlorine for the tap water! This will more or less instantly kill your shrimps and most of your fish! Here in Germany the water facility normally publishes online if they intend to use chlorine (mostly summer times due to increased bacteria). Second: if you have floating algea (greenish cloudy water) you can use Daphne's to filter the algea. You can get a (big) packet of fresh living food Daphne's and put them into a sock from your wife and hang that in front of the water outlet. The Daphne's should clear out the algea in a day or two and can then be fed to the fish

As an American I laughed at the part where you said you have a tap that lets you mix hot and cold in the same faucet. Its the American standard and I sometimes forget the UK has two faucets and a lot of times the hot water isn't drink safe in the old structures.
I like how people comment even before they watch and say "Great video" and then there's me who sees the entire video and then comments on the video 😂 I loved this video short and sweet 👍
I need this water change system. I'm about to start my very first aquascape, just soaking my river wood and cleaned my dragon stone. I'm using my existing tank, an Aqua One Aqua Style AR850, 165L, but i think if I get the bug, it won't be long before I get an Opti white open tank and go full steam ahead. Thank you for the videos, I have a lot to learn.
@NihlusGreenI actually own a copy of Ecology of the Planted Aquarium and its in my hands right now. "Less objectionable [than flocculents] are antibiotics and UV sterilizing filters... UV sterilizing filters will kill green water algae without harming the other tank inhabitants." (P. 158) Flocculents are the clearing agents which MD recommended which Walstad thinks "should never be used in home aquariums, or at least those containing fish." (P. 158) Walstad doesn't recommend the use of flocculents because the positively charged compounds can bind to the gill surfaces of fish which carry a negative charge.
Love the paludarium, but whites need lower humidity. They are a tree frog and thrive in our hot summers in the bush, here in Australia. The tank is more appropriate for semi aquatic frogs.
On a rimless aquarium do you lose much water to evaporation? Been reading that when you top up you should use ro as the water that gets evaporated leaves behind the minerals, is this correct? Looking to start a rimless tank and unsure. Thanks and great video
yeah I guess Ro would be optimum, but i just use tap as my water is quite soft. I probably lose about an inch a week on my big tanks. An inch a month on the little ones.
MD Fish Tanks thanks! So many people have tanks with tops, you should do a video on all of the pros cons and why you prefer rimless! Awesome channel by the way congratulations on all your hard work
I came up with a trick today! i got a piece of wire coat hanger and zip tied it to the side of hose I fill my tanks up with. then wrapped it all in tape! i know have a "Pythoon Hook" for the price of a wire coat hanger!!!! (The other end of the hose is connected to kitchen sink with a hose lock mixer tap cpnnector thing).
Are you still using the same system in the new fish room? The tap connector is perfect for us fish lovers, I’m trying to set up a better system. Great video,🇦🇺❤️
I already use the exact same DIY system with my tanks. I have several big tanks and water change at first used to be a 2man job. Now I have one pipe that hangs just like that and all I need is switch it to the tap after it's drained half the tank. Less stress but it doesn't work on the smaller tanks. Smh
I do something similar for water changes but have fashioned a U shaped hook out of cheap poly pipe (irrigation pipe), using two 90° elbows and three lengths of pipe. This hooks over the aquarium. The piece of pipe in the aquarium is cut longer than needed. It is then simple to rotate this piece of pipe around to drain to the desired depth. On the outlet end I have a hose connector fitting that clicks straight into a hose. In order to start the siphon, I simply turn the tap on to fill the hose, pop it in the aquarium then disconnect the hose from the tap - no sucking on a hose lol. You can add a stop valve also to be able to keep from having to restart between aquariums. Just reverse the flow to refill and that's it.
Dechlorinator works best after being in water for about 2-5 mins before putting it in the tank just a little warning if you the area you live in gets flushed with chlorine etc often

Make sure you put in your water conditioner / dechlorinator to your tank just as you start filling back up.
Do you use a declorinator that the water runs through or do you use water conditioners like tap safe
@@jonathanlodge8375 Yeah just like a tap safe. Add to the water as you turn the hose on.

do you not have to add it to the water before putting it in the tank?
