My first try at Last Ark went terribly wrong. Somehow an all-male crew didn't have what it takes to populate mars.

If you want a video recommendation, I propose completing a task in The Sims 3 or 4 (your choice) but you have to stay underground in a basement the whole time. It could have a simple objective. Perhaps starting from the bottom and working your way up to a million bucks, or having a sociable character unable to socialise. The possibilities are endless, as solitude makes everything more difficult and hence intriguing.

I used to put my butler in his own underground bunker. He had a small concrete cell. He could only come in to clean via a secret door, and only while we are asleep or away on work.

I don't think 12 people meets the standards of a healthy gene pool, but I guess it's not really a paradox game if you can't inbreed.

@@crabbyboi9127 Think closer to 2500-5000 (not counting for infertility or just lack of interest in having kids), or at least to retain evolutionary potential, 100 in how ever many generations will just become kinda doomed? it happened to this species of elephants/mammoths i think?
@@crabbyboi9127 Yep it is. Although in this case I expect frozen embryos to be brought to boost the effective number beyond 12. (I guess they can also play the trick of sampling more heavily in Africa where the genetic diversity is higher.)
if you're interested in this I would highly suggest checking out Seveneves from Neal Stephenson. It's about the human race being destroyed then rebuilt with the genetic material of 7 woman using patrogenesis and human DNA modifications.
@@Dandest apparently some scientist did the math though it was specifying for a long generation ship journey that 500 genetically unrealted inviduals is the lowest possible amount of people you could have to repopulate the human species without genetic damage.
but this assumes they are all in perfect health and no history of genetic disease.
Any opening that starts with "Planting Seed" will be a winner.
I don't think 12 really fits the whole '50/500' rule when it comes to repopulation. Better hope they brought some frozen sperm on that rocket ship for genetic variability in the future.

That rule is bunk anyways, the actual minimal values for fitness and drift are closer to 2-3x that (100/1000-150/1500)

There's 12 people. How do you have a functional exchange based economy with such a low population? Are they just giving meaningless tokens to the robots?
Well, the game doesn’t model any economy. The Colonists don’t seem to have or ever use money.
We might just assume the electronics “store” is just a stall open to anyone to take some consumer electronics?
There might be something limiting their consumption, but who knows.
@@LeafseasonMagbag He maybe meant that it's hard to find workers and electronics for the electronics store this early in the run.
@@Someone-lr6gu In my playthroughs I rushed the Mohole mine (usually using most of my money for research) so that I have infinite metal and rare earth metals for the electronics. The polymers are easy enough to produce. From then on it's not really a challenge anymore.

Honestly, i did that but with a whopping 2 colonists. Where did the other 10 go? What other 10? There only ever were 2.
By the end of my run my region was massively overpopulated and i spend most of my resources on somehow quelling the truely immense overpopulation issue that was birthed from 2 very sexy very horni individuals, isolated inside a single dome made to give them every single bit of comfort.
Not that it matterd in the end as the population grew to such an extreme end that by the end of it all materials were spend on building Arcologies and Apartments to, again, somehow house all of those overpopulated masses of the Hornies.
At some point it just became Alabama 2

You realise that will probably never happen, and if it does not until there is a technological break through which allows to creat a magnetic field around the planet or we figure out how to reactivate the core, which again is probably not likely. Better to focus on saving the planet we have.

In keeping with the antfarm type games you love so much, I highly recommend checking out Distant Worlds 2. The game is exceedingly beautiful but not in the traditional "I have 1000 mods on my Skyrim install" way but more in the way of the process being beautiful. Its a 4x game but instead of bogging you down with lacing peoples boots for them you can automate some tasks away and continue playing your favorite parts of the game.

I love all of your videos, but none have given me as much joy and elation as your Kenshi videos. The tale of the great Torsolo will live in my heart forever. I think it would cool to see a max difficulty run of Kenshi (high squad spawning and fast hunger rates etc.)
