Dylan In L.A. some people only care about the idea of how they look owning the car, not really about the car itself. It's the same thing with all their clothing, with "designer" branding, and while car enthusiasts would obviously see the beauty in a GT, there are those that only care about the idea of money tied with cars. You could show them a GT next to one of those Vegas rental dumpster Lambos, and they'd chose the Lambo nearly every time, just because they think they'd look cooler in it. For non car enthusiasts in L.A. it's just a completely different culture around cars out there..
Pretty sure he was talking about the paint job mostly. It wasn't a popular one I'm sure.
