I’ve welded since 1973. But I had to stop for a bunch of years. When I started again, I would forget to turn the gas on sometimes, or forget to turn it off later. Oh year, it looked like bubbling lava. I’ve learned to turn the gas on first, and turn it off first.

Hello I was wondering if you guys wouldn’t mind possibly doing a review on a (6GR, 6 inch test with the restriction plate using a 6010 root uphill and 7018 feel and 2 bead cap) been needing to see the best way to take on this fit and weld for a test and there isn’t to many good videos out there that show the whole process. I would be truly grateful thanks.
can you give me a link to that grinding disc. I have been looking for something like that for a long time. I went to my welding shop and showed them my old supply of flexible thin grinding discs by Cronatron, they are no longer available may have gone out of business. Anyway the local shop thought they were cut off wheels, I had him look at the label Flexible grinding disc.. They were thin too... but I haven't found a THIN grinding disc... so some help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I can't tell you how many new kids we get at work, that think you can just weld over it!
In my experience it can be done but it’s not the right way to do it. There’s a lot of factors, the process you are using, the equipment you have on you, and if you have an asshole boss breathing down your neck to get things done as quick as you can and don’t care what it looks like/ how you do it. The only successful way I’ve seen it done is burning over with dualshield flux core on thick material if you ran out of gas. If it’s the only option available to you at the time, you have to make sure the area that you have is beaten as much as possible with a needle scaler or air hammer, and then pushing a bead in the opposite direction you ran before. Like I said it works, but it’s not the right way by far.
You should also do one using the gouge as an option.
I've been getting minor porosity with some older 7018 lately. Is there any hope that if I were to put it into an oven for a few hours, I'd have a chance to evaporate off enough of the presumed moisture to weld normally? Or am I better off just tossing it out and buying more?
Cook it and it should clean away the Hydrogen contaminate
For the light duty stuff I make, I cut a line with a cutting wheel and then grind on that cut with a rounded down hard wheel.

normal welders will accept porosity and repair the mistake but delta force welders best of the best plan how they make a weld and they pay close attention to their surroundings and eliminate any problems about to happen what will cause the porosity how to prevent it from happening is important because if you grind the crap out while trying to fix it you get back porosity

Im having a issue with bad porosity welding in a x pipe on a exhaust. Everything is fine until i try welding it and it all goes to hell. Ive tried cleaning and changing the gas settings nothing helps. Im not 100% sure but it might be possibly 409s and im using 75/25 with er70s wire, Im at a loss though at the moment.

Hello! Dan from Romania here. I have porosity issues every 2-3 inches of weld when using Flux cored gassless. You think you can give me a hint or tip to avoid this stuff from happening? I weld outside most of the time.

@@TheEden51 You can use CO2 with flux,it'll blow it away if the wind speed is to high but still give you 2 layers of protection.
Probably just need to make up some sort of windscreen to block the wind.Flux is pretty forgiving in wind,I was just welding up some door frames on a SXS in 25mph winds last week. Had a couple spots that the wind blew to much but they were easily fixed and just pulled a vehicle in position to block the blunt force of the wind.

You made it look easy. Yeah, I know it’s not that hard to do, but for new guys, it is. Too many times, those who watch the “cheap” channels on RUclips have no idea what to do. I’ve seen people just try to weld over a bad spot. That’s the guys who are told to play around in their garage with their new $100 welder for three months, and they’re ready for paying work.

If I bought a welder and practiced my self would I be able to get certified and pass the test eventually. I have metal working experienced and worked for welders in the past.
At the end of the day, only you are responsible for how well you perform. I can have all the best settings and material in front of you but if I wasn’t any good then no I wouldn’t be able to pass a test. Practice makes perfect, friend. Watch every video these guys make down to a tee that involves the parameters of whatever kind of welding you want to do and with a little practice and constant learning you can do it.

There is loads of such videos already for the beginners , but this is good example of saving an already gone bad weld for those in a pinch.

Funny. I've done it too many timess.. the last time the hose was pinched and I swore I turned it on. And it was. Tried turning up the gas samething .. then checked the hose.. it wasn't a critical job..

Only way to fix em holes is to grind em out and start over, not worth fooling around with it otherwise

he probably had the cameraman turn off the gas flow for the last two inches to get the porosity. the weld looked very cold to me too.

Every day I was waiting on the imbecile I had to tag weld with on these airport hanger trusses because he'd always blow porosity because he'd get way to much stickout and the gas would mix with O2,hell we were running 85/15 .045 and in a factory. Every single day,and at least once on every piece. We had a quota to reach every day,I could do 6 of these in a 10hr day by myself when he wasn't there and we'd only get 2-3 when he was....... I was asked why I couldn't get as much done numerous times............"Right there,he's the problem" as he's once again grinding his and my day away,but you think they'd put him on something that wasn't as...lol hard? Nope. Waiting around makes for a long stinking work day.

I wish you had shown how to tackle the problem of removing porosity from difficult to reach weld beads, i.e. welds at 45 degrees or less.
Should one use carbide burrs on a dremel, maybe rough files, or some other method in case a grinder can’t reach all the way. That would be interesting info for beginners too.
That's my issue at work, a grinder normally wont fit where I'm welding
Usually a gouge with a 1/4 carbon is what I use for details or getting rid of porosity. Or ya know. Just weld over it 😂
@@dominicdiaz1569 Make sure you grind all the carbon out .It can cause a bad x-ray. It happened to me on a x-ray i fixed.
@@michaelshortridge6379 oh thanks for the tip. It’s usually on the pieces that aren’t x-rayed. They put the guys with 30+ years of experience to do the X-rays just to minimize mistakes and do them quickly.
