It shocked me when I realized that God actually speaks to you during prayer. And the signal graces of the rosary being a real thing, that really shocked me too. I think we just live in such a sceptical world that these are shocking concepts when in centuries past, mysticism was probably a rather common concept. I'm nothing special. My life just seemed so messed up that I was at a low point. I surrendered it all to God even though I wasn't even sure if I believed. He spoke to me. Now I love prayer. When I realized it was all real, it completely floored me. Then, I started reading St. Francis de Sales, St. Teresa of Avila, and St. John of the Cross, etc. We have this beautiful legacy of spiritual directors in our saints who give us these wonderful paths to speak to God. Catholics are the most fortunate people to walk the earth.

I've been reconsidering Catholicism recently and have been praying often with no such luck. What do you mean God spoke to you? Like literally heard a voice of some sort? A powerful feeling or emotion?
@@tacticaltemplar875 you know, Mother Teresa talks about how in the silence of the heart, God speaks. I have a prayer journal and usually go into adoration with it, but I don’t open it in there usually. I just tell God that I love him and I appreciate the opportunity with him and if I can rest in his presence and he can heal me and silence me from my troubles so I can hear his voice. Sometimes, I hear a song or a loud thought. When I kept asking God about how to fix a relationship, I would hear an old country song I hadn’t thought about in 15 years called “Unanswered Prayers”. Going through my divorce, I would hear “Be Still.” And the day my divorce was final I sat in adoration and the loud thought was “Know I am.” I asked what it meant to “know” God and I had this understanding the “know” meant the consummation of a covenant and I had this memory of this movie I watched where Marie Antoinette was stopped at the border before entering France and she had to strip down and leave her dog and all her attendants at the border because as a princess of France, she would be accepting the French identity and she could bring nothing from a foreign court. In my case “Be still and know” meant I needed to be obedient and allow God to strip me of anything that would prevent me from coming into his presence. He was giving me his identity as his daughter. I was entering a royal court. There are a lot of things kind of like this. I think the most important thing is to enter the presence of God with as much internal silence as possible as a sign of respect and openness to God’s word and will.
@@tacticaltemplar875 when I say a “loud thought” it means a thought that is louder than the rest and doesn’t relate to anything that I’m thinking. Most of the time, I don’t even know what it means or is in reference to. I would just go to a local adoration chapel and sit in there and wait for God to say something to you. The hardest part is the internal silence. You have to practice just being present with God.

Hey Jim. Appreciated your comment and encouragement. I was praying the Rosary for a couple of years at the direction of our parish Deacon and I found that I was reciting it with a feeling of drudgery, as if 'well, this is what I was told to do, so...'
