Capacitors can make a big difference in sound and Performace with An amp
This is why so many Vintage Purest who like 70s Era audio amps do not want their amps recpped it changes the sound !
Capacitors in the 70s were built different and much larger than today caps with the same Value - IF You fully recap an amp from the 70s with new age caps it will sound closer to a new age amp !
And this is why So many Vintage Purest only service their amps if something is wrong 😆

15 yrs ago, I put Jupiter wax caps in my Bottlehead Foreplay preamp....lovely til they melted....!😂 ...they were great in my custom Belle Klipsch xo's.

Hi Thomas, love your channel and great work bringing an amp to market. A potential addition for future revisions would be to allow it to accept EL34 tubes. These are more romantic than the KT88 and would offer a warmer and possibly more engaging sound that might appeal to some users (like me). Depending on the exact circuit you're using, this could be incredibly simple to incorporate. Just a thought.

I would try Audyn cap True Copper for coupling and Mundorf in the power supply. Mundorf could give you deep controlled bass.
Thomas can you share which Jupiter caps model are those that took the edge off the upper mids?

If the speaker is forward, then Special edition. If the speaker is dark or smooth, then normal edition. If the speaker is neutral, depends on your taste.
@@galionaudio9146 Thanks Thomas. Always a gentleman!. It does play life like, full and rich. Though I am not good at describing a "style", like forward. Unless that is something applicable to a horn speaker (ie Klipsch). Perhaps falls in the middle with a you are there feeling. Hmmm...decisions...decisions. Cheers!

Just curious did you happened to try the Jantzen Superior Z cap (or higher range model)? For speaker crossover circuit, I find the Jantzen Superior Z cap sounds more natural, cleaner and clearer than Clarity or Mundorf caps.
I will have a better idea this week cause I got those for the normal edition to test just in case I can improve further the sound.
@@galionaudio9146 If you are replacing the Clarity EAS or CAS cap to the Jantzen Superior Z cap, you will definitely hear an improvement. Can't wait to hear your findings.
Ah, I'm glad you mentioned these. I have these really old capacitors on my tall multi-driver open baffle dipole line-arrays on the one ribbon tweeter on each channel, and I was wondering what they would sound like if I were able to 'upgrade' them, thanks! 😊
@@cpaint69 Agreed. I put Jantzen Superior on my tube amp and they are very natural. I now use Mundorf EVO Silver/Gold. A little pricey but I even compare them with the silver in oil and I prefer the silver/gold.
in cap rolling those Clarity caps, I found they bump the upper midrange and become edgy sounding. that's why I suggested the Auricap XO earlier because it retains more level without sacrificing the clarity or becoming too much

Which model do you think would match best with Klipsch Heritage speakers like the Forte or La Scala?
I had a Patreon tried it with La Scala normal edition and he can only listen at low volume with stock tubes. Once he push the volume, he finds it too bright. I plan to bring the special edition this week or next to test it. I would guess the special edition but until I listen to it, I am not 100% sure.

@@traveledman Yes, the final version with smoother voicing, both normal edition and special edition pass with no brightness problem at all. The reason is because after I upgraded the special edition with Jupiter caps, I did something similar to the normal edition which made it sound smoother.

Eventually, it all partially depends on the success of this amp.
Parts Connection should be very happy with your video. I may have this wrong, a CAM member says that he has over 30 years of exp and has found Solon caps to be the best. I can appreciate that it would take hundreds if not thousands of hours to try a few variations. Then in the end the result is subjective. Argh.
I think just like everything in life, it all depends. The Solen caps might be the best in his specific situation, maybe it would be amazing in my situation too but until i try it, I don't know.

Working on it and it is not as easy as I thought it would be.

No, the problem is the cost of tubes have sky rocket and although I did look into it, it is not possible.

🤔 how much would it cost to offer,plain and main volume knob as an option…Maybe saying GALION special edition on the knob or SE
The final version has no logo on the volume knob. The logo will be laser edge on the top of the center transformer instead. The whole front lettering will be shorten to make everything look cleaner.

When this unit gets more reviews about reliability and repairs are proven by a few years of business then I might consider the gallium however companies out for 50 plus years have amps in price range that have been proven
I agree that those companies who has a history of reliability has earn the right to charge a premium for it. Of course, that is why you get less performance from those similar priced amp for a reason but for many people, it is an acceptable compromise.

@@randybehenna3081 Well it is a new company so I have to build up the reputation of excellent customer service. As I said, it is good to be cautious and buy from a company with a history of excellent customer service, the only downside, in that case, are they have to live with the downside of owning a tube-integrated amp if they go with an established brand. The downside is the bass in a tube integrated amp that uses four KT88 is always just meh when compared to solid state. The only exception is the Galion TS120. Now, if they go for KT170 that is a different story.

Just another thought. On a CAM form on upgrading a MP Dac they showed pairing capacitors. Where a capacitor is you would add a smaller value one beside it, winding the wires around the other one. Please get some competent advice before trying this.
Ok I see the MP dac. What if you amp had a similar way to change Caps. No soldering required. You could provide Cap "upgrade" kits. The Tube Store sells Tube sets for amps as good, better, and best.

Why dont you just forget the SE edition nonsense and just make the amplifier the best you can from the beginning rather than improve it before it even hits the streets!
I guess the same reason why bother making a Toyota Corolla when Toyota can build a better car Camry? Sure I can build a best, just that the amp will end up costing $100k.
