Great video Thomas. Your customer service for your line of products by making a video like this is unmatched. Hats off to you sir
I am a “FAN” of audiophile research. As a fan, I have enjoyed learning. The learning is the fun. The incalculable computations of component pairing. I very much enjoyed this. Thanks
I installed a full set of Cryotone tubes in my TS-120. It is a major upgrade. Totally silent, dynamic, tight. I suspect people would give up on tube rolling if they installed Cryotone tubes. They are just awesome.
Thanks for sharing! Yeah those Cryotone are something else, maybe I should get a set to try.
@@ThomasAndStereo Hi Thomas. Ya seriously your amp with Cryotone tubes kicks the crap out of much more expensive Audio Research and Macintosh amps I've heard. I think it would be an 3xcellent idea to offer it with Cryotone tubes like Decware does. If your in the Edmonton area give me a call. I'll come get you so you can hear this. You can thank Don and myself later.
thanks for those super clear explanations ! 🙂
THANKS THOMAS,FOR DOING THINGS RIGHT,TO BEGIN WITH …SOMETHING PEOPLE ARE RELUCTANT TO DO 😱
Making it easier to “ Flavor to your own tastes “ and YOU HAVE MADE IT EASIER FOR THEM…as well by educating 🧐 them about what they are looking 👀 for,ESPECIALLY NEW ONES !!!
Myself I am looking 👀 forward to owning a GALION soon 🤗 A ☕️ mug that is 😁👍💚💚💚
Thanks a lot, I hope it will help the owners out. A mug is good!
@@ThomasAndStereo I can drink some coffee or tea while watching your videos 🤗😎💚💚💚
Hoping in the future to be able to purchase the Galion 120 (or perhaps 150 by then) which would hopefully pair well with my Q Acoustics Concept 500. Currently using the Asthetix Mimas integrated amplifier that sounds okay, but the sparkle in the top end that I expected to get from that amp hasn't materialized. Better stock up on more instant noodles.
If you are hoping it to sparkle like a Focal, I don't think it would be possible. It should still sparkle enough, I am going to assume you did hear it sparkle when you heard it with the Mimas? Could it be the cables or DAC?
I own alot of these tubes and yeah Thomas I agree 85 percent ' kt120 to me have a warm tone and Golden lion hard to beat in clarity city ' but Tad can get very techtile in a good way ' and stock P.s.vane classic imho is a very good tube for a wide range of speakers thanks Thomas
Is there a return policy for galion products?
You are a genius 😁
"Tube rolling" fancy word for changing tubes
The more revealing the speaker the more subtle differences in tubes will be noticed. The v1 tube quality will make a difference with detailed speakers.(Western Electric is making what they claim is the ultimate 12ax7-using their new internal materials and advanced precision robotic processes.)
Hi Thomas, just fitted a matched quad of kt66 gold lions to my new audio frontiers legend 2. You should hear this amp. 45 kilos, 18 watts, heavy is good, heavy is reliable!!
What’s the best speakers for this?
Thanks Thomas - This was not just an excellent review but a useful one. Based on the information provided you can take action or guide yourself accordingly. I’m presently salivating in anticipation of receiving my Galion and will formally PM you so you can add a mug to my order. Question: What’s the average shelf life of the Psvane tubes.
Usually a PSvane KT88 should be between 2000 to 3000 hours. Just make sure to keep it off when you dont' use it. For the mug, I am using a third party company and don't have control over it. So I can't ship with the amp. Sorry.
TAD does not seem to have the 6550 tubes anymore in their website.
Sorry for the late reply. I guess the tube shortage around the world is really affecting everyone.
Thomas: 1st of all, hats off to a great accomplishment. I'm ready to buy. But I don't know which version, standard or SE, will best complement my speakers, either Klipsch Cornwall IV or Klipsch Forte IV. Also which tubes? Thank you. Oh, with no phono input, can I connect a phono stage to any of the numbered line inputs?
Sorry for the late reply. Yes, you can connect a phono stage. The SE, if you can afford is better because it is more refined and the bass is more nuanced. The standard edition is also good, you will get more fatter bass and wider soundstage. Now, if you need the smoothness, then SE is the way to go. For tubes, the SHugunang will give you more bass and less sharpness. The PSVANE will give you a more airy soundstage.
@@galionaudio9146 Thank you for the reply. I plan to go for the SE with Psvane tubes -- those are stock, right? If I promise not to hold you to it, would you please suggest a compatible phono stage, tube or solid state, in the $1200 or less price range. I just need a MC setting. Thanks.
@@issadad I personally don't use turntable so I really don't have good advice. Any should work, I personally like Synthesis sound. Not cheap but maybe take a look.
Yes PSVANE is stock.
@@galionaudio9146 Thank you!
That review at the start is very positive, but then I never doubted the Galion :) Speaking of tube integrated amps, have you ever listened to a Manley Stingray II tube integrated amp? Would be interesting to hear a sound comparison with the Galion.
I have never listened to a Manley. That one uses EL84, so probably amazing for vocal.
@@galionaudio9146 Tell Manley you will do a positive review and they send you one for free, hahaha!!
Just joking, but seriously maybe they will send you a review unit if you ask, you never know ;)
I had the Mahi monoblocks. Gutless, very disappointing. Well made crap!
@@scottchegg1209 What was disappointing about it?
Hello Thomas. Thank you for the informative video (voicing of the Galion). I am very curious about your next endeavour (15W solid state amp). I have a hybrid tube integrated amp and would love to find an enjoyable and hassle free option to turn to.
Soon soon, I have increased the power to 20w now with a bigger power supply.
I find this so funny !!!!
Everyone is oozing MONEY $ .You have good intentions .But 70% of us cannot put the volume up in our ''apartments'' more than 7 o'clock ...Thank You Those who have houses are VERY FORTUNATE ...
The art of tube rolling. 😄
LOL what art your changing tubes
Do you actually believe that electrons moving in one tube is different from other electrons in another tube? Maybe they go faster in one typer of tube. Maybe they add some other stuff into a tube that colours the electrons green, blue or another colour. I know tubes wear out, so maybe just make sure you have a new set of tubes with every listening session.
Thomas, Doge is dissing your alu foil cap choices on their Doge 10 MK4 webpage. Just FYI, but of course, your comment should be interesting..
It is a long story why the Doge website is being so unprofessional. Think about it, do you think any respectful person would write that about their client? It is not the view of Doge company actually. I will sadly not go into detail. To answer the question of alu foil cap, I do have wax , copper and silver caps at my home. Voicing is a question of matching and that is why it takes months of listening to get it right. There are also limitations, for example, if you use silver, it is not Rohs compliant and you cannot get CE certifications with it. So you have to be very specific in your choices to get the best sound while being 'legal'. If you look at the reviews of clients on my website, it shows I got the voicing perfect since they claim it beats their $10k+ amps.
can i be mr tubes? i'm a local tube guru mainly deal with guitar amps but did some work on home stereos and studios. all this hard work and you compromise on modern tubes? this amp deserves better. if you let me be mr tubes ide recommend for the galion ts 120 se: vintage brimars if you can get them for a special combination of british warmth and liveliness, old mullards will be smoother ,ge's are nice and clear with huge lows with definition neutral mids and crispy highs. rca's and amperex are amazing as well.
if you can't find or afford the holy grails mentioned above than matsushita and tungsram are very nice sounding sleeper nos tubes with complex midrange for less money. we are at the bottom of the barrel regarding nos so getem while you can.
There is a video on youtube of a man breaking the cheap psvane kt88 and the most expensive (Tii), and its the same tube. They just colored the glass of the Tii, so you could not see the inside.. There is so much bullshit in the industry...
In my experience Psvane KT88 tubes can sound fantastic but are unreliable.
Psvane acme 300b tubes very good.
