I love your outfit in this! Wondering who you report to as an AA? Or, in otherwise, who is your main supervisor? Was it hard in the beginning figuring out your roles and responsibilities?
Thank you so much! I report to the director of our program since I advise within a program for first year students in environmental fields. She and I also report to the associate Dean for academic affairs in our college. I personally felt like my roles and responsibilities were pretty clearly laid out. They even broke them down into categories such as teaching, advising, etc. I’ve been in this role for going on two years and have taken on some additional roles, so I’ve reported to other folks for those roles that are in addition to my primary roles (for example, I help with recruitment to our program so I report to the director of recruitment for our college for the work I do specifically around that role). Hope that makes sense!
@@wall_to_wall Also, when you make the video, can you explain your major and how long it took you to become an academic advisor. What did they ask you when they hired you, did you take any test, etc.
Hi McKenzie, I really enjoyed your video. I just finished up my degree in counseling and am interested in becoming an academic advisor. Is teaching a course apart of the requirement, or is it just something that you were interested in doing?
Hi! Just to clarify, one of my followers named McKenzie requested this video. My name is Kaly. Thanks for watching! Teaching a course along side advising is not something that is required to be an academic advisor. Many advisors at my university advise exclusively. However, the nature of my role in the program for which I advise includes a teaching role. Hope that helps!

Hi! I really want to be an academic advisor, can you do a video on how you became an academic advisor?
