Here's my tip for using novelty yarn for amigurumi. Crochet the pieces you want to be fuzzy (maybe the head and body are fuzzy but the nose and hands aren't or whatever, you get the idea) using a smooth yarn FIRST in BLO. Then, go back with the fuzzy yarn and slip in all the front loops starting at the top or bottom and working your way around. Yes, you're essentially doing it twice, but trust me, it saves A LOT of headaches! Especially with toy shapes that tend to have a lot of increases and decreases.
1. Use simple stitch patterns 2. Count as you go 3. Feel where you need to work the stitches 4. Pair fuzzy yarn with smooth yarn 5. Make sure the lighting is good 6. Look for the V 7. Use simple shapes
i love this idea, im currently working with fuzzy yarn for the first time, and the project keeps increasing on the sides bc i cant tell what im supposed to pick up or not
AND THE FACT THAT NO TUTORIAL FOR ANY PROJECTS USING WOOL YARN FURRY YARN OR ANY KIND BULKY MAKING MEEEE ANXIOUS LIKE WHAT AM I GONNA DO WITH THIS I ORDER TWO HUGE OF THISSSS :O

i made amigurumi for my bf, it wass frustrating but i enjoyed it. i used another thread, not fuzzy one to mark every chain you made, and remind you how many chain youve had so you don't lose count
Thank you for this! 💜 I bought fuzzy yarn because I wanted to try working with it. But, then realized it was not easy at all😅 Takes triple the effort than normal yarn. And then I thought, maybe it's just me, maybe I wasn't doing it right. So, thanks for the tips! I got stitch markers to help me out because I'm always wanted around the house right when I'm crocheting.🤷♀️😄 I think that could help.
THANK YOU!!!! I have this fur yarn that I have for YEARS - I have attempted SO MANY TIMES to crochet with it. All fairly disastrous and re-balled back into huge ball - tried using it with other yarn, but it didn't look how I wanted. I came across this video and OMG, it is a real game changer! I have realised that I need to just use single crochet and FEEL the stitches! IT WORKS. I think you have to get your head away from all the stitches being perfect - as in placing hook EXACTLY in correct place. It is trial and error and it really DOES WORK by feeling base of last stitch and then easily finding next one. Counting certainly helps too. I know if my fur "fell off" what is left would look rather odd, however, this WON'T happen and my finished products looks and feels so thick and faultless! I have just made the most INCREDIBLE scarf/neck warmer - will make a couple for my close friends for Christmas. Best ever is that it only took an afternoon, because I can "feel my way" and I could watch a whole new Netflix series. You are a star! 🤩🤩🤩x BTW, I live in the UK and used Sirdar Alpine. It is also a super chunky and VERY SOFT yarn.
I’ve purchased Hobby Lobby version Fur the Moment which is much softer then Lion Brand version. I found that I used a larger hook and simple single crochet. You are correct in saying any complicated stitch would be waste of time and lost in this yarn. I’ve made simple cowls from this and they came out beautifully. Selling quicker the I can make.
A light that goes around the neck and shines right where you need it is awesome. Getting one that has different settings is helpful too because then you can adjust to the environment you are working in.
I bought fluffy teddy yarn to edge around a babydoll blanket for my 3 yr old granddaughter. I was nervous to try it, but you've given me the confidence to use it today!
Just used the Lion Brand Faux Fur in a project. Absolutely loved it!! It was softer than anything I've ever encountered... like crocheting with rabbit fur. Just amazing!!
I found some Yarn Bee Snuggle Up on clearance at Hobby Lobby and thought I would give the fuzzy yarn a go. Didn’t even make it through a short chain until I was googling how to crochet with this stuff. Like other commenters here- I thought I just wasn’t good enough at crochet to do it. I especially didn’t want to have to use a super huge hook. I figured out the best thing for my project was pairing the fuzzy yarn with a regular worsted weight yarn (tip #4). I was able to find an almost exact color match to the fuzzy yarn. It definitely has a different look to it than using the fuzzy yarn alone but I think it looks even better. Thanks so much!!
How lucky to find a worsted weight in the same color! I'm glad you found this video and didn't give up. Although fuzzy yarn projects test our skills and patience, they're always so worth it!
It works!!!! I just made the most wonderful neck warmer/scarf - all in single crochet. a few increases and decreases - Also, best ever handy hint is to COUNT. Really, it is like crocheting blind. I worry that if all my fur fell off, my scarf would look rather odd, BUT, this is NEVER going to happen. Honestly, this yarn is so forgiving. My scarf is AMAZING. Wish I could post a pic xx
I almost bought some of this today. I want to make a stuffed animal for my granddaughter. I also thought about making her a poncho with the pink because that's her favorite color.
I bought more fuzzy yarn for animal-inspired bucket hats! I can say it is hard to do but keeping patience and realizing that fuzzy/ more textured yarn is harder to deal with I think is big :D Trying not to blame yourself can be really hard as an artist so taking a step away, or maybe taking time to chill off I find can really help with more fuzzy yarns.
I have bought a little LED headlamp that can be strapped to the head with a stretchy band, it is great for working in spaces where the lighting is low. I also use it for working with lace weight yarn, it gives a great and clear view of the stitches. Because it is on my forehead and the angle is adjustable it is perfectly aimed at my work. It is not lighting up a whole room when it's not necessary and it does not juggle like a lamp that is hanging around your neck for when you're on the treadmill. You will look a bit like a cartoon Minion, but hey... When you need to wear gear... you just do it 😎
Thank you great tips I have been thinking of trying to work with some of the fur Yarns but I was nervous to but now I may give it a try. So thank you very much
Thanks for these tips! The one about pairing with a smooth yarn is brilliant, I'll have to try that. I always put stitch markers in every single stitch on the row I'm working, I have a much easier time finding the V when I just made the stitch than later on when it's buried in other stitches haha!
Thanks for your tips ❤️. I bought fur yarn and regretted it while using it so just added it to the edges of a hat to give it a fur end which looked good but can't continue further. Will surely use your tips to work further with the yarn. Thanks again!
I started working with Chenille and found that for me, keeping the tension on the crocheted part of the string, instead of the smooth feeding line... kind of like flipping it upside down, so that the feed line is loose and the already crocheted part is running through my fingers. I have also found out that unraveling it too much causes the fuzz to come off, causing a dip that catches, so I have to go slower, or risk getting snags. Also, working with my fingers or a bigger hook works. I actually cut half the clip off a sharpie lid and use the sharpie pen as a hook!🤣
@@morrisdancer11 Neither, When I first started crocheting, I was using the entire sharpie as a hook. I used it until I became better at crocheting, and using smaller hooks.
I have been trying to crochet a cat bed with chenille yarn in the round. I'm doing single crochet. It's very hard to see the stiches with bulky chenille yarn. So far I've made a bowl of sorts and a potato chip of sorts! lol! I'm getting better at "feeling" the yarn which is very helpful. Now I just need to practice my increases more so my round stays flat. Then I'll work on building the walls of the bed after I get the bottom of the cat bed flat. I must note that my cats don't care what shape the cat bed is. They love the chenille yarn and will pretty much lay on it no matter what shape I make. lol!
I just ordered the Annie Hat kit from LB - was on sale. yeh! Got an extra skein so I could make some headbands. I'd love to see Lion come up with a pattern for a shawl collar (croissant-style) to wear over whatever - they always look so elegant!
I would so love to try this gorgeous yarn to crochet. But I don't have a clue what to make with it, other than a pillow. I wonder if a scarf would look good in this. The yarn looks absolutely luscious!
@@sierrastorm1291 I've tried a similar yarn with pom-poms and it was a disaster, the yarn sheds so much, that no matter the size the pom-pom falls to piece's.
Go for Faux is the yarn that made me search how to work with fluffy yarn. Finished my chain, turned, and realized I had no idea where to start my stitches.
My base chain keeps flipping around and I can't figure out how to keep it straight. In turn my stitches look like they're on a roller coaster track! I'm really struggling. All I keep doing is ripping it out to start over again! My husband thinks I'm nuts!
I bought fluffy, long fiber yarn for the blanket and tried to crochet and knit it to give go which way it is faster and easy to do. I dont know about you,but for me to knit it is much easy than crochet this kind of yarn: all your stitches are on the knitting needles and you can clearly see them. Because of that your sides are straight. You are able to count stitches and rows to increase or decrease if necessary. Knits very fast, because of size of needles and yarn. Happy knitting, girls!
I just found this out: if you're sewing amigurumi fluffy pieces to other fluffy pieces, instead of using the tail of the fluffy piece it's much easier to sew when you attach smooth yarn and use that to sew it together instead. That way the fluff won't come apart and all you're left with is loose string!
Just an idea I've been toying with, but has anyone tried wetting the yarn down to make it smooth, work the yarn and then either let it air dry and fluff it or use a hair dryer on it? I'd love to make some Amigurumi critters out of this yarn but haven't had much luck tracking those pesky stitches.
I’m gonna try and use some contrasting thread against the furry yarn to see if that helps. Kinda like your smooth yarn idea but won’t add texture and can remove after. Like a basting stitch in sewing.
Thanks a lot for these tips...I really need them ,as I never work with these types of thread.. I want to know whether we can use stitching needles or only with crochet...also which one is better, a big size or smaller size crochet
Ooooo...thank you😀 Autumn is fast approaching, and I’ve been wanting to make something but couldn’t decide on the yarn. You’re right, this is really hard to find. I use stitch markers to mark EVERY stitch, it's a pain in the butt but it takes out the counting in some areas or just easier and you won't lose your stitches, lol
if you do this double yarn thing, cant you cut the smooth yarn away? :o like finish everything and than search for the smooth yarn and cut it at a few places and pull it out?
Thank you for these tips. I so want to buy some of that Go For Faux yarn. The different colors are amazing. I was wondering if you could do a knitting tutorial for an adult hat using #4 yarn. I am new at knitting and want to learn to use cables to make an adult hat. So many tutorials on RUclips only demonstrate for kids sizes and it would be nice to have them for adult sizes. Thank you so much. 😘
So I’ve never tried anything like this before, but I want to make a giant cat plush that’s curled up. When I say giant I mean like ‘me size’ a somewhat average 15 yr old. I’m thinking that crocheting squares and attaching them together would make it easier for me🤔 I’ve been looking for patterns but I can’t find anything close to what I want so it’s gonna be trial and error, I’m afraid of starting it tho because I don’t want to mess it up, tbh it’s bound to happen anyway. Got any tips for me? Also what would u suggest I use? I want it to be really fluffy but I feel it may be difficult for a beginner like me to use.
Also, if I crochet squares that are the same colour and put them together would u be able to tell that it was squares? If it’s really fluffy it should hide it right?
okay well literally never touched crochet and bought fluffy yarn... maybe not the way to go as a first timer 💀 i was wondering why i couldn't see the stitches
I think I gave myself an imposdible task. I bought black faux fur yarn and honestly I don't think I can do a project with it cuz I can't see my stitches
What is the brand of your white hook and gold it looks like a really nice hook I’d love to have those in Tunisian hooks. What are the best Tunisian hooks out there
Hi Linda! These hooks are Furls Odyssey in the rose gold and white version. Unfortunately, they aren't available for Tunisian crochet. My personal favorite Tunisian crochet hooks are the Addi interchangeable set. They have metal for the more common sizes and plastic for the larger sizes. The material is nice to work with and I prefer it over wooden hooks, myself. The downfall to this set is you have to buy three separate pieces to complete a functional set: the hook set (which comes with a case), the cords and stoppers. I bought all of these on Amazon. When I first bought them, I filmed a video if you want to have a look! Here's the link to that video: ruclips.net/video/RFA2-SGK9BY/видео.html

I use stitch markers to mark EVERY stitch, it's a pain in the butt but it takes out the counting in some areas or just easier and you won't lose your stitches, lol
Hi thanks for sharing
I have a problem counting stitches. I lose my count. Sounds crazy right?? Also how do you walk and crichet at the same time? Amazing
Im making a project right now with the magic circle.. i always count 6 but i always end up with 8 stitches when i recount
I think using as many stictch markers as you need I'd put a stitch marker in each stitch if needed
if you do this double yarn thing, cant you cut the smooth yarn away? :o like finish everything and than search for the smooth yarn and cut it at a few places and pull it out?
I’m gonna buy this yarn today
being able to use a larger hook size also helps find the stitchplacement.
I’m struggling a lot but a bigger hook size than it recommends(I’m using a 10 while it recommends an8) helps
So I’ve never tried anything like this before, but I want to make a giant cat plush that’s curled up. When I say giant I mean like ‘me size’ a somewhat average 15 yr old. I’m thinking that crocheting squares and attaching them together would make it easier for me🤔
I’ve been looking for patterns but I can’t find anything close to what I want so it’s gonna be trial and error, I’m afraid of starting it tho because I don’t want to mess it up, tbh it’s bound to happen anyway.
I did the same
0:00 such a mood omg😅
i cried when i couldn’t join another fluffy-ish yarn because the knot wouldn’t last
what if you made the yarn a bit wet, would it be easier to crochet then??
I think I gave myself an imposdible task. I bought black faux fur yarn and honestly I don't think I can do a project with it cuz I can't see my stitches
Thanks Brittany! I could use some help with knitting techniques like magic circle and joining in the round I think is what it is called.
I made a huge throw out if loops and threads snuggle cashmere and it sheds EVERYWHERE! Is there a way to stop it from looking like a bird lost all its feathers on NY floor??
Hi
What crochet hook size did you use ?
They have these at Walmart as well
That's where I got mine. They had it clearanced down to 2 or 3 bucks
How do you count your rounds? I easily forgot on what round I've worked on and usually repeatedly count my rounds.. however I am using a fleece like yarn and cannot see the rounds 😢
Wow ❤️❤️🇮🇳 so soft
I would really like to have a pattern for that yarn to make scarves for Little and young girls.
I just rage-tossed a go for faux trying to crochet a bear. Wish I saw this first :/
OMG.... I just bought that same yarn and was like im so stupid i just bought this yarn just becasue it was so freaking fluffy...
It gets easier the longer you work with it! I'm currently knitting the last piece of a faux fur pullover and it's a piece of cake!
@@bhookedcrochet After watching this video I decided I wouldn't just have it to touch...Thanks so much for the helpful video!
How many faux fur yarn dose it take to make a blanket
Does the yarn shed very much?
Where did you get that hook?
How can I put a zipper in the back of my Faux Fur crocheted dress without messing up the yarn I have already crocheted?
Walmart has this yarn!
COOL BEANZZZ
Making a plushie out of fur yarn wish me luck
So basically over two minutes of go buy yarn from my sponsor clicks off video onto another

Working in rounds can be easier than working in rows (in most cases)
