@@justinpye9094Maybe. But Gibson never even had it. ;). I prefer ANY Fender style boutique guitar to a real Fender most times. I saw Julian Lage live last year in Germany. I'm a metal guy, but during his performance I had constantly chills and I cried some tears of joy. Never experienced music like that before. Thanks, Julian!
I understand, I am a Tool fan. Came across JL on YT wander one night and was completely blown away. It's life altering playing. The variety in his material is stunning.
I love how he does his astonishing improv with that sparkle that so many Jazzbos seem to avoid like a hot flame. His tone is spectacular! Long live the Telecaster!
@@Grahambhuyan I know, right? Tele is famous for the bridge sound. The neck is probably one of the most replaced pickups, but dialed in it can sound great.
I think any guitarist who feels like they want to really play well should try and see players like julian whenever they get a chance. Seeing and hearing what a master can do gives me energy and passion to keep pushing myself, even if ill never get as good as they are
I became a tele guy before I know about him, but he confirmed what my hands were telling me…. The Telecaster is a wonderful guitar. Only other guitar I love is my 355.
I have no problem using Abe. Julian has exposed new areas in harmony with his 2-3 line improvisations. It's the elements that create never heard before greatness
We are all in for a huge treat when Julian turns about 46 or so and gets bored with jazz, starts playing country western and rockabilly. Patiently waiting, about ten years away.
Love Julian. But sometimes it most definitely is the instrument. Any poor kid learning on junk will see leaps in their playing when they can upgrade to an instrument that has good action, intonation and sustain et al.
I’m guessing they’re all different weights. This confirms my suspicion that I’d be better off with a custom made (and a swamp ash, roasted/torrified) body than the new growth, heavy Alder that Fender is using lately.
@@demesisx They will be different weights, yes, but I expect the Player variants to generally be on the heavier side, more so than the higher end versions, simply because they're less refined during production. I would love a Thinline, but I'm a lefty, so practically out of luck. Not interested in overpaying for a custom.
Julian likes Fender advertising money. Honestly though, Julian Lage could fart on the strings and it would be unmistakable as high art that would be shared far and wide for its genius.
My two favorite jazz guitar improvisers are Julian Lage and Bill Frisell. I can't figure out whether it's because they both play teles or whether it's just a coincidence.
What are your thoughts on the Fender Player II Telecaster? Let us know in the comments!👇
Is he using 12´s or are the factory strings?
Fender have lost the plot.

John nathan Cordy sounded great playing one, the Strat as well.
@@guitarcenter great-playing guitar. Love the chambered option
That level of improvisation is insane. He is completely free on that fretboard

He was INCREDIBLE when I saw him
I saw him last year. Hard to remember the last time I saw (and felt) such pure passion and joy in a performance. Incredible.
Julian Lage is the perfect person to demo a tele. Everything about him is inspirational.
I believe that one of the most beautiful things in life it’s to see a true master at work.

That look of joy on his face when he's playing is a great motivator to keep practicing. That's the look of someone's who's completely free.
Julian consistently improvises better stuff than I've ever written in my life. One of the best ever.
Absolute mastery of the fretboard. Julian is a magician!

One of if not the greatest living guitarist today.
Man this guy always brings something unexpected. His joy playing is fun to watch!
Julian is incredible. And the Telecaster neck pickup tone is not to be underrated.
Guthrie Trapps bread and butter is the neck pickup. Sounds great!
Everything is underrated. Pop tarts, velcro, hula poppers, matching socks.........your generation is so unoriginal and devolving.

The master, the man who made it impossible for me not to play a Telecaster.
Such a gentleman and inspiration
Julian is the Bob Ross of guitar. Such chill joy, every time.
Exactly!

Can't imagine another guitar for this performance, unbelievable flexibel and tonal depth.
i can just watch this gentleman play and talk about the guitar for hours man
One of the best of our era.
Maybe the most capable
julians aproach to playing is super interesting, everytime i hear him talk about it im in awe
More than how freely he moves on that fretboard, he frees the fretboard from the shackles of mortal playing
Absolutely incredible playing
That was so cool! Amazing performance and the story about him and his dad was heartwarming. Loved the whole thing!
Awesome seeing a tele played like that!
Check out Ted Greene as well
Such a unique touch and voice. Fabulous.
In the 60s Jimi gave us never heard before greatness, Julian is doing the same thing.
They knew what they were doing e this. About time folks realized the commercial potential of this master.
My god … such mastering , technique , mélodies & intricated chorus and lines ..
Get that bag bro!
He is simply amazing. So much fun to listen to. Good stuff. 👍🏾👌🏾

What a treasure this man is.
I really love hearing him talk about his father!
This is fantastic. Julian Lage is such an insightful and brilliant artist, even while selling me a Telecaster. Thanks, GC!
I like it when he smiles at an amusing joke the god of music is telling him from another dimension
The neck pickup sounds ok, can't say about anything else. As always Julian is amazing.
This is like seeing Bill Evans in an ad for a cheap(ish) stage piano
Lovely playing, nice Tele, and that's a nice wall of amps ageing like fine wine. Cheers from London
So touching. And so impressive. Listen to a genius talk and play.
I have a white Telecaster Ultra that I love very much. Julian is the consummate Musician and Gentleman. Love.
I am not a big jazz fan bit I do love Lages discussions about guitar in general. Very thoughtful guitarist.
his intermingling of chords and notes is unmached
Very slick vibe w/ dynamic colors to Lage's sound!
The Tele sounds great but give him another guitar and it will also sound great. What a musician!
Amazing playing, amazing tone
this is artistry
Wow! Fantastic playing.
This guys is amazing and he also looks like Abraham Lincoln and I can't get over it
He needs an honest Abe beard and he’d be Abe. Maybe need some stilts.
I was thinking the same thing.
I thought I was the only person to have noticed this 😂
He IS young Lincoln!

Absolutely amazing Jazz guitar Julian!
If Steve Howe needs someone to temporarily fill in for him, Julian is the guy!
GC for win #2. This proves that the guitar is not the limiting factor.

Julian Lage is too good for Guitar Center
That was incredible
Monster playing 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Amazing guy!
He can make a broom sing!!! 👍👍👍
Coldest mf living
That's a beautiful play, Rick Grimes.
Probably not the comment you would expect from a fan, but anyone knows where he buys his overshirts? Seriously, the man always looks classy!
A tortex 0.88!? Ma dawg!
that's gotta be the best rosewood on a Mexican fender since ever
How do I stay humble? Watch this video anytime I think I'm good
Fantatsic!!!
This man has forgotten more about music and guitar than I ever hope to learn lol
Are those strings 9-42 or 10-46? Or anything else?
He uses 0.11 D D'ddario on his Telecaster. Is a good gauge to play Jazz or a little bit of rock and roll.
Cool cat!!
i saw some elliott smith influence in his playing
Definitely has a rick parfitt feel and look to this guitar from Status Quo
Dear Jazzers - it's not necessary to roll the tone off to play jazz. 🙂
👍🎸💫
his tele sounds just slightly better 😅
Julian uses compressor? 😮
He uses three basic pedals: Strymon flint, a booster and a overdrive.
@@norbertogustavoblanco1700 yes I know that but as you can see at the beginning of the video it is a OC-1 which is a compressor.

That’s why I started DIYing my teles from reclaimed pine. Softer woody resonant tone, less weight. Love them!
I have a G&L ASAT Special. It is very much a richer, more 3d tone. But not a Nacho. And no Julian in sight =/
