Dewents XL line is surprisingly fun. I use the charcoal and graphite together at times.

      Hi Boni,
I'm glad you found the short video helpful.
Just to let you know, I further explain the use and creative techniques with Derwent XL Blocks in my brand new 166 page book recently published by Search Press (UK publisher) called 'Drawing Dramatic Landscapes'. I show lots of techniques, applications, inclusion in step by step expressive drawings and paintings.

I want to try these with figure drawing to get the basic large lines and direction. They look yummy to handle.

Hi Elsa, Derwent XL Blocks really are great for figure drawing too. I've taught life drawing classes to students using them with fantastic results. give them a go, I'm sure you'll be delighted by them too.

What particular paper did you use for this tutorial? Have a patreon site or individual classes, that would be nice. Thank you.

Hi Ranjana, I'm glad you found the short film and art techniques demonstrated inspiring to you. Thanks for letting me know.
The two different types of paper shown are Canson Mi-Tientes Touch 350gsm pastel paper as the A4 Pennine sketch I worked form and for the studio work 200gsm Derwent Cartridge paper pad size A3.
you may be interested to know that I have a book out called 'Drawing Dramatic Landscapes' published by Search press which demonstrate throughout different sections of the book the use of Derwent XL Blocks both Charcoal and graphite. There are step by step drawings as well for you to follow with full explanations.
If you are interested to know more here is a link to it. The book can be bought on Amazon too.

it would be nice to see you create a piece of work for real with these bars, not just a swatch sample. or direct us to a video were you did? if you already did that. the description doesn't say anything that would indicate you did.

Thanks for your comment and for watching.
This is a promotional video for Derwent - a sample (not full length film) of just what's possible to get you started yourself of what's possible with these amazing products.
A 'start to finish' promotion may come later but even then, as several of my paintings can take several days to create, it will be a short concise version in stages.
There are several paintings and expressive drawings created with them as finished pieces on my website, Facebook page and Twitter accounts if you'd like to explore. www.rdcreative.co.uk
      Thanks again Crazy Mai.

Crazy Mai you want everything done for you. Go do it yourself.

Hi Crazy Mai, the short film was created to inspire artists to have a go themselves rather than an instruction video. Within the short time frame allocated for this video it would have been impossible to show a start to finish type of film with one painting in mind.
Much longer films showing paintings start to finish with techniques are being produced by me all the time. They will be appearing on my youtube channel in the next couple of weeks so look out for those. if you subscribe to my youtube channel you'll not miss them when they appear.
      Hope that helps. Robert

So silly that you came back four months later and watched it all over again.
If this demonstration is so lacking and 'silly', let's have a link to your much more sensible video on the subject, Bob Ross.
