@@ChristianWFL my first coach(also my cutman) used to tell me petroleum jelly makes the skin more elastic, hence harder to break, but I might be wrong, because by no means i am a dermatologist

It's not as much for cuts as tearing the skin. If a dry glove hits dry skin it can cause alot of damage but the Vaseline allows it to not tear the skin
Can confirm It's fucking useful in boxing especially Last time me and my brother sparred we got burned so badly because we both had our hits slip off of each other and the speed of the punch literally felt like hell on your skin
Vaseline also prevents bruising and if its already applied before the bruising happens it will keep initial swelling to a minimum till the match is done and then they can go home and let it swell to an eggplant once the fight is done and it doesnt matter anymore
@@THIS---GUY that's after you get cut but before they use it to make your skin soft so it becomes elastic and it's harder to get cut that's the reason they put it on before a fight
I was doing a wheelie at like 30 kmph, but as I got too far back I realized I had no rear brake to catch me (it was a project bike), so I basically fell onto the ground going 30 kmph. I used my left hand as a road crayon. However, I found cuts on my knee and hip even though they were protected. Why? Because if there is grip and force being applied in at an angle, your skin will sheer off. Even if it's protected. So I instantly understood why they wear vaseline.
@@p0uty Well maybe if I had watched this video before it happened, no. But after I crashed, I was just surprised how I had basically skin tears where my clothes were completely fine. Some things you only learn in hindsight. Which is why I would trust a race car driver who had a couple wrecks over someone who never has. I once hit some rock on the road during a tropical rainstorm, I had never had a car crash, but this minor accident got me thinking about all the trouble you don't think about after a crash. No car for months, no way to get home in the rain, injuries that might prevent you from working/being independent. Everyone knows it's bad to get into an accident, but few really think what all the possibilities are and how they are going to affect you. Maybe if everyone experienced a close call like me that gave you good wake up call on what's on the line, there would be less road rage. Like some guy once said "everyone has a plan, until they get punched in the face". That crash was one of those punch in the face moments for me, the skin thing was an additional observation.
The main reason is because your facial hair can actually cut your face when you get punched so it gives a protective barrier to help stop it from happening
Lmao this dude puts Conor McGregor in the title SOLELY to get clicks. Every fighter does this. Not just him. I mean hell it shows the other fighter putting it on too.
