    McGregor's actions here exemplify why I think striking is more fun than grappling. It's like he got bored grappling and just stood up to finish it real quick.

    • @Efil-Jo
      @Efil-Jo 6 месяцев назад +22

      McGregor was fun to watch, but he had massive holes in his game. Mendes exposed these holes, and Conor had no real answers on the ground... sadly for Mendes he made the mistake of allowing Conor back on his feet. Khabib had the discipline not to make this mistake and we witnessed the end result. MMA is really about being a complete all-round fighter and McGregor was not in that bracket. (unfortunately because as a fan he was great to watch)

      The only reason you feel its stopped early is because he didn't take as many ground and pound shots as usual to finish a match. You gotta keep in mind Mendes looked exhausted the second he came off the ground, barely defending himself standing up. Herb Dean made a good call stopping the fight before any unnecessary damage was done.

    I really dislike when these fights go to the ground. I know it is obviously within the rules, but when fighters continually go for the take down, it tells me they are scared of standing toe to toe and are not legitimate fighters. Just my opinion as I'd rather watch the fighters' trade punches, kicks, and elbows. Far more entertaining.

      idk if we watched the same fight. mendez was putting a pace on conor after taking him down and striking constantly. the only times he wasn’t was when he was being held in conor’s guard which was something even khabib had trouble posturing up in during certain moments. mendez even cut conor and busted him up with elbows multiple times in the first.

    • @djvernski
      @djvernski 9 месяцев назад

      How? He was damaging him with elbows. Pretty sure he’s the only fighter to cut Conor as well. Even Khabib didn’t get that damage done.

      @@Fightconnoisseur96 A shot to the chin put him on the ground, but after he was on the ground and covering up no punches were landing to his chin! A few seconds more and the round would be over. I wanted McGregor to win, but not in that manner.

    • @Fightconnoisseur96
      @Fightconnoisseur96 9 месяцев назад +4

      @Elite59 The wording isn't "intelligently holding both arms up to block further strikes"; it's "defense," plain and simple. If you're trying to improve your position, that's intelligent defense, even if you're getting hit on the way.
      Mendes did not move, he did not attempt to grab a leg, he did not attempt to block anything, he simply just curled up and accepted punishment. To the ref that is a submissive position and warrants a stoppage no matter how much time is left.
