Great conversation! @8:50 is a great interaction. You can be good at golf but when you meet up with someone who is at that level above you it is humbling and impressive. Rick's comment was classic. Such a mindset shift at the higher levels. It is impressive to hear his matter-of-factness with his ease of scoring. Inspiring.
Best podcast concept by far. Every word is a revelation and insight to a world most of us will never know. It brings home how good you have to be and how you have to maintain that level against tremendous odds. Fascinating content! Rick, you struck gold.
THANKYOU!! James your a hero bro, this honesty is sooo refreshing and it makes my own life struggles far easier to cope with when i dont have to hide im struggling. Kind regards ben from NZ
Hope that you can get some big sponsors and real in pros and ammys on the regular. This was a terrific podcast digging into the grind of amateur to pro and all of the behind the scene stuff
this is a fantastic interview, the interaction between James and Rick is great. Rick trying to extract James's feelings and what it was like on the closing holes. brilliant stuff , thanks
Had lessons off James easiest to understand instruction you could ever imagine nearly gave up golf before going to him within 3 lessons I’d won two board comps top fella really sets you at ease
magic story - riveting. That's what's great at golf. It reminded me of a mad tense situation I was in as a 16 handicapper playing for my club but feeling I couldn't miss. It's only happened me maybe 3 times in my life but it's a great feeling. The bigger the crowd got the better. Knocked it around the back 9 in level par to reach a play off and won on the first extra hole. A year later playing in the same inter club comp I played a round without a single par and barely a bogey.... I remember losing my match on the 17th - was 10 feet short of the green - needing to chip a two putt to win the hole and I couldn't manage it. Mad game.
Hey guys, will you release this video as a whole interview once it has been released in episodes? Realt enjoying the insight but would be nice to watch it as a whole interview
What a legend!!! Rick you are my hero !! Super helpful videos !!! But we also curse your name when we tey some stuff out on the course and it don't work like putting the back spin on the ball... thin it 80% of the time but atleast I'm set up on the next green
The football analogy is an interesting one. About 200 players made over $100,000 dollars on the PGA Tour in 2019 (last full season pre-covid). That is around the rumoured average salary for League 1 in English football. The money runs way deeper in football - I suspect the 500th best golfer in the world makes about the same money as the 5000th best footballer.
Two people that James mentions here, Marcus Armitage and Jack Senior. He beats both of them at open qualifying. Both play on European tour with Armitage having won last year on European tour. There's no doubt he had the skill to be one of the best in the world
James is just one of those guys that you'd love to have a round of golf with then a sesh after isn't he. Natural charisma, which is kind of annoying haha
I just found this podcast with James. I was astounded at what he said, surprised at the financial commitment but more at the mental pounding he took. The tiers of card earnings and events allowed is mind blowing. The money you can earn is a surprise on for an example europro. This podcast should be on the R&A website, all the Golf Magazines websites and every other place aspiring Pro Golfers are likely to look. It's an eye opener for anyone trying to get on a tour. Bottom line I reckon, don't bother unless you have the golf game and mental stability. I know someone can turn pro on a 6.8 handicap. This is a mistake in my opinion. To make it past q school you got to be a minimum of a scratch player, preferably a + handicapper. Players who are used to shooting under par, 2-5 over ain't gonna be good enough. I saw a newly turned pro recently win an event, the field wasn't big, he won £30!
Well the honest truth what I think of a good coach is they couldn’t make it on the tour. Cause if they would they would love all to play on the tour and win. That’s their first passion.

So cool.
8:15 what a sequence... 3 iron of the tee 275 yards, then 4 iron 275 yards on to the green inches away put in eagle.
Like Rick, James is so likable and should have his own YT instructional channel.
Superb stories and great insight. Seems like such a nice genuine bloke.
What a awesome interview, really enjoyed to see the passion and great vision of what it’s like to be a Pro!! Thanks

Fantastic Insight Ric... James seems such a good Fella

He makes more birdies in one day than I make all year

Subbed to RS 2nd🏌️♀️
It ended too soon
A great Amateur player on the board in that picture 2019 Lytham Champion Josh McMahon...
Seems a broken system, not unlike the one for Tennis.
