Even if they did remove the segment with the drumstick, I still think it would have (at least initially, on first submission to the Ratings Board) gotten an NC-17.
I think it's odd people freak out over a scene with a drumstick more than they'd probably freak out over the scene where it wasn't a drumstick standing in.
Dear Matthew Congratulations on moving back to Texas! My grandmother was from Texas and moved west she had a great deal in reading me, and l thank God everyday that she did. I'm 76 now and if l could l would be in Texas now but because of finances l will never have that chance. Texas has another thing l love to watch besides your movies is Formula 1 so if you go take a good day at the races and think of my that little old lady from Oregon that truly believes you made the right move for your family in going back 🏠! Enjoy with all your heart ❤️ and soul! God bless you and those you love. O, l almost forgot l did get to sip your Tequila Blanco and it is marvelous!
This movie is much deeper...this is a Hansel and Gretel story.....listen closely to the dialogue when Mathew(Joe)tells her a story, this is more about his seed and inheriting a place in heaven finally.....little words said about'tell her the story'...it is a family thing whether you get to live....I picked up on that more I listened carefully.
Movie was interesting Matthew McConaughey was amazing I love all his movies but this one was a little disturbing and gruesome. I I didn't find it funny.
It's little things like this.... Things like non-talk show interviews that are longer than 4 minutes, or full feature movie commentaries where an actor can explain his thoughts. It separates the fame seekers from the story tellers.
The attitude of the family set around the chicken and the dinner scene was just weird. They actually wanted to kill the son and aided Joe into "attempting" to kill him. That entire night was just weird. What was the point of the chicken scene anyways? It was just odd and just all around disgusting. Am I the only conscious person here?
100% right, the entire thing was just fucking ridiculous. I'm not with those who say "disgusting" or "sick", I've seen all Saw movies and the like so there is nothing shocking for me in the amount of violence or the blowjob scene. What is so fucking stupid in this horrible movie, is exactly what you just said. It is RIDICULOUSLY FUCKING... UNLIKELY? I don't even know what word to use to describe how fucking senseless it is for the guy to try to kill his own son (not that it hasn't happened in real life, but just that it was straight up pointless in the movies), and you're right about the chicken scene too... everything was just pointless and this movie's so bad it seems directed by Michael Bay and written by M. Night Shyalamalayalan or whatever the fuck his name is. Bottom line: no, you're not the only conscious person here... those scenes were so fucking... unreal that I can't get over it.
I would agree, DDiez and HIghbrid. Like the dinner scene where they were all sitting around the table together (after the awful chicken scene). For example, the wife (Gina Gershon) who was all bloody after Matthew had punched her in the nose.. are we to believe the young sister doesn't NOTICE that Gina is a bloody mess? The sister just has this big smile on her face. And are we to believe the sister and Matthew are actually in love and considering marriage?? (she's what, 16.. and he's in late 30's/early 40's??)I also had a big problem with the brother and father allowing Joe to use/pimp the younger sister for his 'retainer'. No way would decent family members do this. And what about the dog? That poor dog I think was chained to a building through out that whole movie and it rained every time they showed him. And they were always yelling at him. THey needed to give it away to put it out of its misery, being owned by people like that!
Matthew McConaughey portrayed his character phenomenally in the Movie.
This movie was so good in his own way.
McCounaghey, when he wants to act as the bad wolf, he can be truly terrifying.
That ending though... o.O
He was so good he should do more roles like this!

Absolutely agree man! This film is my personal favourite too!

Just watched this movie. It was wild
It's scary that he could play the character that well. I'm glad I didn't watch this movie with my family though. disturbing
I agree. There was so much vulgarity and raw "sex" I've never seen anything like it in a movie, especially Matthew M. portraying the cop.
This is his best role in years.
Matthew McConaughey the Actor who should of got the Role of Batman for the up and Coming Man of Steel sequel...
This movie has an incredible amount of layers

He went on a drastic weight loss diet because his next movie roll he is playing a Guy with Aids in the 80's

I found it funny and disturbing. Matthew was terrifyingly good
It's funny in a really dark sense, its not going to be funny to everybody
Like the commenter above me wrote.. its not for everybody! It wasn’t funny but was a Classic Drama Movie
It's little things like this.... Things like non-talk show interviews that are longer than 4 minutes, or full feature movie commentaries where an actor can explain his thoughts. It separates the fame seekers from the story tellers.
How naive can you be?
This may have disturbing themes but is very grounded in reality for example killing someone for insurance money is a very real practice
Exactly.. Crazier sht happens in real life! This is based off a man in fl ..i knew there had to be some truth to it ..

Hahaha I know right? It was just weird.
I agree what the fuck was that las segment of the film it was a lost opportunity I thought the son was the main character
Hollywood is witchcraft, indoctrination and conditioning of the public with hidden occult meanings in nearly every poisonwood film!
I wonder how he would sound in a british accent
I get the story i was sooooooo fcking confuse with the chiken scene
Was this before people knew McConaughey was as a great actor.
What was the point of this movie? Super messed up. And WTF was that ending?
I really enjoyed the movie.
Gary?
I didn't laugh at the chicken scene
I did lol
Laughter seemed to me to be the only response I could muster.
Me either.
