I quit my high stress SVP position at 50 (now 53) with no plan and three years savings. One of my business contacts hired me for a lower level position making the same base pay. In addition, I sold my home to move in and take care of my family (grandkids and aging parent). Now saving and investing 75% of my net. Looking forward to full retirement in 5.5 years.

“Live a life you never need to retire from”. What a simple, powerful concept. Thank you for this video.

Yes, you hit the nail on the he'd. You are talking about me single retired downsized walk twice a day and I love my life. I am content with the simple things in life. I am 75 and live on social security. That's all. I love my simple life 🕊️🙏

I'm really happy hearing this, "contentment is key. It makes one appreciate little things and maybe, even the most important things in life which I consider happy life 😊

I love it. Too many of us get caught up in the consumption wheel... other people persuading us to spend our money on their products... they have some really powerful and sophisticated tools to get our money from us and get us to think that buying their stuff will make us happy... But, at the end of the day all we have is stuff, no money and we're frustrated... how's that for life.
Love this video... focus on the simple stuff, flip the script. Let's get more self-reliant people doing what they want with their money, rather than what others want them to do with it.

I am doing what you describe now. Of course, I am 67. I would have loved to have retired sooner. I am not totally retired, I was a nurse and office Manager now I decided to do a fairly low-stress job as a dog walker so I can get exercise, enjoy cats and dogs that are not mine, and make a bit of money to help with my expenses. I have an IRA, 401K, but I do not want to use it. My work supplements my social security benefits. I have learned that slow mornings and time at home are really enjoyable. I downsized a long time ago, but I do reassess my possessions and I donate whatever I am not using so someone else can benefit from them. I feel happy as I traveled a lot when I was younger and now I am home most of the time since the pandemic. I lost my friend and boss last year to Covid and I had to find another way so I could be happy with a lot less stress in my life. I feel I have found it.

Hi Jereme, hi family! 🙂 You are one hundred percent right, I think it's all about mindset and being content and thankful for what you have and not always wanting 'more' or living above your means. Great video. I think anyone can live simply and retire early without financial independence like you say if they really want to. ☺️🏡☕️💕

I love this! And it reminds me more of European philosophy to live slow each day and enjoy the moment, long vacations with the family, a whole day (Sunday) off each week to rest.
I asked my husband what he would want to do if he had financial independence and he’s said help at the library, or own a bookstore, or just travel more.
When I lost my job last year I finished writing my 2nd novel and found a part time contracting gig that I preferred. I make less money but have so much more time and it’s good money for the few hours of work per week. So now I’m running for office and doing more creative projects with my time off. I never would have been able to keep it up with that stressful 9-5. So I really appreciate that opportunity!

T-shirt worthy quote “Flip the Script” I’d totally buy one. Husband and I are in our 50’s. We have had the same conversation. It’s about being content, happy, and living out your God designed purpose. Thanks for the video. And Grace you look great. No need to be camera shy.

Grace looks great!! Yes, I am 100% with you on this. Society needs to change so that everyone has this opportunity, but for now, we all just need to do our best to live the simple life we want! I've always hated the concept of retirement, because by the time people can actually retire, they can't enjoy the things they always wanted to do or they die soon after retiring. They work their life away saving all that money and then they don't even have the chance to use it. Its sad and I agree with another comment here that people realize it too late. There really are a lot of trappings in this world to overcome. You are inspiring to so many! Thank you for sharing

I like this video a lot, and I really like your approach to FIRE because you didn't do anything super special, or try to burn yourself out with work. You just looked at your family's life objectively and you all decided together what you wanted long term. That's the way it should be. I'm trying to do exactly this--I know I won't have as much money as other people, and that's okay.

I have been encouraged from what you share …. 👍❤️

Totally agree and it’s very calming for the soul to appreciate what you’ve got and be content and not always chasing the next hustle, you are living in the now. I see my parents in their 80s enjoy doing their wordle and quordle, go for their walks albeit with sticks now and meet neighbours enroute, read the newspaper and visit the library for more gripping reads. Mam is in a local bookclub too. They get mass via RUclips on their tv for their daily worship and they sit out in the garden when it’s warm and listen to nature with their tea and coffee. They are the least stressed people I know and as they were children during WWII they know they don’t need much to be happy, they make do and mend and cook nutritious simple food. I need to learn to be more like that myself as I find it hard sometimes to relax.

AMEN Brother!! I would agree often the world wants/needs complication to be happy. I really appreciate your comments in your video that’s how I live my life, being happy is so much more important than all this junk in the world. God matters, people matter the simple things of life like a walk and enjoying God makes me so happy. Those are my mountain top moments when I am just walking, especially on the beach! I look forward to living the way you do. 😊 God Bless!!

Jay, I love the whole flip script thing. In fact, I think I have incinscieuly flipped the script for myself for a while now actually and thank God for that. Sometimes I look at myself as living more than saving and it kinda bugs me sometimes... again I feel like I am living more than I should be investing in myself but then, I guess I need to work on that.

What you described is how we have lived for 28 years. I have been retired for 3.5 years already and only 51 now. We never "upsized" and invested in our home the way we wanted and there is no need to "downsize." God changed my life at age 24 and I have refused to live the "American" life as most script it (as you did in the video). We live a simple life and are very happy with it. We have three children, one just started cc; two are employed and living on their own. Big takeaway - make your own decisions, don't allow the world to dictate your plans! I appreciate your videos; letting people know their is another way. I take no credit for our life; we simply follow God's direction in Scripture and trust in Jesus :)

Flipping the script. I have been too far away from this channel recently, because I am working like a horse to save up more and more. My priority is still to save for that FIRE number, then work on the mortgage. My mortgage, unlike those who are paying in the thousands is way under 1000 per month. People around town pay a much higher rent than my mortgage. And, their rents are ballooning. I feel sorry for them because they are really caught in a losing battle. Their incomes are really low and faced with higher costs, more and more of their measly paycheck goes just to living expenses; they are forced into frugality.
I really need to mull over these words, carefully. TY again.
PS: You mention the small things. I broke down and bought a small potted lime tree to see if I can grow one in the desert. I took coffee outside this morning. That lime tree, the scent from the leaves, is really pleasing.
