I love this - though you seemingly grew up in the era of the big thick muscle-bound quarterbacks, you really know the importance of the lithe athletic quarterback that was rote until the 2000s and a far more versatile passer.
I literally picked up football a week ago. I’m trying to be a wide receiver, but I have a really good spiral, so I’m starting to question if I could play QB. I can only throw 35 yards accurate. I’m 13, and my height is 5’ 4”, and I weigh 113lbs. What’s y’alls opinion? (Edit: I’m now 14, 5’ 7” and 120lbs. I’ve chosen a while ago not to do football, and I’m now getting into baseball. Basically Eli with little football IQ and no past of football it won’t be easy to grasp even if you have a great arm cuz there’s a lot more than just throwing at QB so i say stick to becoming a WR or DB first
CapsFN but I will agree with you on the wide receiver first. I probably catch a lot better than I throw. Not to mention I run a lot, and from my POV I’m fast😂 so it’s either be a WR, or Lamar Jackson lmao
Basically Eli, well since your a beginner, I wouldn’t recommend QB because it requires the most football IQ of any position. It’s not just throwing the ball. It’s playcalling, being a leader to your team. Keeping your team disciplined and focused. Calling plays, executing those plays in practice in game. Wide receiver is a little easier as you just have to learn your routes compared to learning all the receivers routes of one play.
Qb doesn't really depend on how far/accurate you can be with the ball, you're pretty short for your age, seem to not know much about football, I would definitely recommend playing another position. If you are wondering what a quarterback needs most of the game as a quarter is mental, can you lead your team? How well do you perform under stress? Can you call the right plays when it's needed? Are you a team player? Then everything else like being able to throw comes into play.

This is something that is used by many QBs in the NFL and elite college levels. You must have great ability to create external rotation in the shoulder in order to maximize throwing velocity as a quarterback. It’s just a fact. Your elbow issue could be from coming around or how you were putting torque on the elbow during the release but when create proper stretch on the shoulder gets the arm properly set to throw the ball with the highest amounts of velocity..
