My grandfather was the inventor of the Vibroplex Lightning Bug. Sadly I know nothing about the telegraph but find it so interesting that there are so my enthusiast who still enjoy today.
I had a lightning Bug. I went into the Army and lent it to someone. Came out of the Army and could never remember who had it. Of course no one ever came forward. I replaced it with a Japanese bug - the worst piece of crap ever, then went to paddles and electronic keyers. Sure wish I still had the bug.
Very very impressive. I'm going to come visit one July 12th to see this. I'd love to grab lunch with Denice. I'm just beginning to learn CW. This is an inspiring video. Congrats to all who keep this historic building and piece of history working. 73 from W3ATB.
Worked your stations many times during my seafaring days and was able to read all of that even though I've been out of that job since 1986. Guess the old morse neurons are burned in .. ... very nice video.
Dear Goddess, The members of the maritime radio historical society are your humble servants and we thank you for protecting us this past year as we continue our stewardship of the stations KPH and KSM.
I plan on making it this July 12th 2020. Who else is going? I read on their website they even let guest send on the air. Hope I read that correctly. I'd love to be able to broadcast a little something from KPH!
Click on the little gear image at the bottom right of the video window and you can slow down the speed and copy along. Well I tried but cant separate the buzzing and tone to make it work for me.
It's pretty noisy in the transmitter site operations room where this was filmed. And the MW receiver sounds chirpy due to signal overload since the transmitter is there also. Doesn't phase DA one bit. She's a pro!
Great sender indeed. I just love the way she is relaxed with the key. Like playing music like she said. Music of MORSE.. I love CW and still use it today.. I am not as good as she is. My C.W. speed is about 18 WPM.
Now that's what I call ''CREAM''....beautiful txing and thank goodness for Vibroplex, those machines certainly have helped those that have got a 'glass wrist' when having 'pumped' away too much on a conventional key. Very nice to copy you DA. 73's and 88s de G4KKZ AR VA
I would have loved to see the text appear as she was sending it. 73 from a former radio amateur. Former, because there was just too much disturbance on 2 m and 70 cm in my area and I didn't (and don't) see myself learning morse code.
Great fist, but I'm really surprised at how much her hand is moving on paddles. I'd think it would get really tired. Her thumb really arcs back and it looks like she's using all four fingers on the right side. Like some letters get different fingers tapping the paddle. (I didn't try to tell which ones) Captivating.
@@thirtycrows By "dots", I presume you mean dits? And by "dashes", I presume you mean dahs? I am well versed in the use and construction of Vibroplex bugs. I have never seen one with a "semi-automatic" plate or emblem on them. Do you have one like that? If so, please share it with us! That would be neat.
I would be live that this would be on Paul's channel. Just decided to look through some older videos. I also see that he had the HAM radio skit thing that blew up a few years ago. Strange how it is now Model As.
I copied strictly manual Morse while in the Army. Some ops were so terrible, your teeth would grate in frustration. Other ops were fast, clean & had a distinct rhythm (fist]. One of my "targets" could do 20+ gpm, but had a "rockin'" rhythm that made it easy to get in the groove and just copy him for hours. Those NVA/VC OPS were great.

It's a full body sport! Usually, she has dozens of metal bracelets on also, and you get to see whole body dancing plus all the bracelets dancing on her sending arm. She is awesome OP and a great person.
Copied about 95% - after a decade off. Esp liked the 73s and 88s at the end. Hope this tradition is being continued and that the society continues. de K7HIL since 1959
Attention fellow Vibroplex-loving geezers: If you repeatedly call CQ and no one answers it may be because of your annoyingly exaggerated "Vibroplex Swing". Listen to DA's perfection and learn! 73 de k4zi
It sounds like the deep clicking noise and the Side tone are casusing it not to be so clear to me! She has a WONDERFUL fist, and I am able to head copy a lot of what shes sending ( and i cant do that normally) , but thats what a pro sounds like! The other videos have better sound! Love the Vibroplex (I have the same model) produces such excellent morse. Well done DA.. QSL VA
Im impressed. wish I could pick out the actual code other than cq!
If everyone could send like this, CW decoders would actually work.

I like the car videos better... but then again I'm a model A guy.
WAS the best work of my lif, only CW the radio station ZWRF 1972 to 1977.
