- Joann Fabrics is set to exit Chapter 11 Bankruptcy - What happened and What does this mean to you!!
Any day now, the signed decree is expected from the court. This means Joann stores will remain open!
Full disclosure - I am a sewist and not a bankruptcy specialist. These are my thoughts - a "Byrd's-Eye" View!!

What’s the one thing you would want to see in your local Joann’s?
I really like the employees and management staff! They are always short-handed but they are friendly and knowledgeable about what they have for sale.
About shoplifting, I stopped a woman with an overflowing cart of items, she was pissed. I went to management and told them what happened, she informed me that corporate told them not to stop people from shoplifting for the employees safety. If that's the issue they really need a security guard at the entrance/exit. This cart had thousands of dollars of product. So very sad.
Okay, I agree that being able to go in a store and actually feel the fabric is vital, especially for garment material. I have been disappointed, in the past, because the knits were almost all polyester. If I am going to go to the trouble to make garments for myself (or especially the grandchildren) I want more natural fabrics, including viscose, linen, bamboo cottons, etc...Unique fabrics are vital. Their quilting fabric selection looks appealing but, as one person commented, too much fleece, flannel, etc.. I miss "quality" fabric stores...and there seems to be great options...IN EUROPE. Arrgh.
At my local Joannes, the manager is rarely seen. He is generally extremely busy. They need an assistant manager at this location. They need to deal with the patterns. They’re still in boxes. There must be seven boxes of patterns that have yet to be put away. They say they don’t have the time, they don’t have the time to clean the bathroom either. They definitely need better help and they need to put the signs up when there is a sale on things especially patterns. The manager in the Hollywood location is excellent. He’s on top of everything. Give that guy a raise.
I love my local Joann’s and would love to see some craft and sewing classes
I loved working at Joanns even working every area of the store. I even enjoyed teaching the sewing and quilting Classes.
I don't sew, but my mom and grandmothers all did. But I remember many weeks I would go with a close friend, who sewed well, to pick out an inexpensive remnant. Then we would use Mom's sewing machine. My friend would whip up a new pretty skirt for me to wear for a Friday evening at the local teenage dance hall. It was so fun to get a new skirt for about a buck back in the 60s. So I know Joann's is a very important spot!
I wish my local store had more staff and better quality fabric.
I am so glad that Joannes is not going to close. I love Joannes. They have a Lotta stuff, arts and crafts and fabrics and patterns and threads. I’d like to fill my fabric before I buy it
It’s expensive unless on sale!
When I looked last at board of directors none seemed to have come from garment/fabric industry. That needs to change...

I would like to see the paper craft section to go back where it was before. All craft stores scaled back a lot. They focused more on cricut type of crafts and their branded products.
Thanks for the update. My Joann’s hasn’t been staffed well for years-even pre-pandemic. I put in complaints about some of the management team pre-pandemic and haven’t seen them in the store for some time. I was in the store recently and saw that the fabric was well stocked but the home decor was sparse. Also there was an armed security person just inside the entrance.
Our store in AZ already closed its doors. My daughter tried to get a job at our JoAnns and they never called her. She even went in to talk to the manager. She has experience at another fabric store. She sews, crochet, and knitting mostly, but is gifted in other crafts as well. I think she wasn't hired because everyone is so busy working they don't have time to hire.

I worked at Joanns almost 30 yrs. ago. The managers have incentives to keep labor costs down, so they always go with the minimal they think they can get away with. They also don't pay well. My local stores have large sections that are very low on stock in the cotton section. I hope they can get their act together. Not many other options with a good selection.
