    I already had re-plumbed the pump inlet last week so this is how you do the pump discharge line that sits above the pump. You would plumb both the same way.

    NOTES:
    This is not a very difficult job, but it does require accurate measurements for the pipes to fit together. The last pipe fitting you do will be the most difficult as that will be the one that will make a complete sealed plumbing. Please plan accordingly so you will be able to fit it on. In this video I was able to move the pump back about 1 inch and slide the last pipe on, then I pushed the pump back completing the plumbing seal. It takes some practice but you can do it. If you make a mistake, simply cut out the pipe or use a new pipe and new fittings. The pipe fittings are not very expensive. All the material for this job will cost you about $20 -$25. Just by extra fittings in case you make an error in your cutting or measuring.
    Parts list:
    2" MALE ADAPTER THREADED FITTING (for top of pump)
    For a better heat rating you can use this pipe also:
    2" x 12" nipple cpvc pipe (grey) and rated to 140 degrees
    2" SLIP COUPLING
    2" PVC PIPE 5 FT
    2" SLIP 90 DEGREE ELBOWS
    2" FITTING EXTENDER
    POOL-TITE GLUE .5PT
    Plasto-Joint Stick Thread Sealant 1.25oz 11775 for threaded fitting on top of pump
    You can also use plumbers tape
    Of course if your pool has 1 ½" pipes adjust the fitting size accordingly.
    Pool-Tite Glue Instructions:
    Shake can well. Use a primer to clean the pipe fittings (priming step is not needed for non-pressure pipes less than 4" in diameter. Apply liberal coat of cement to pipe depth of the socket, leave no uncoated surface. Apply a thin coat inside if the fitting, avoid puddling, Apply a second coat to the pipe. Assemble parts Quickly. Cement must be fluid. If cement surface has dried recoat both parts. Push pipe firmly into fitting giving it a ¼ turning motion. Hold pipe and fitting together for 30 seconds to avoid it popping out. Glue can get old so if it is gel like don't use it.
    You can use the Purple primer or the clear one to prep the pipes. The Purple primer has a very strong dye in it so if you drip it won't come off, so the clear one is less messy.
    Sometimes the pump itself will have warped a bit from the heat. In that case the 2" x 12" nipple cpvc pipe will sometimes seal it better.
    Here is a look at the pipe online -
    www.grainger.co...
    You will just have to cut it down to size and then do the repair accordingly.

    I'm glad you said it. I don't know when I've seen plumbing that sloppy. Why not take a second and throw a rag around the equipment. We always use medium to heavy bond clear cleaner and cement. Also they make threaded pump mta unions.

      I know that made pipe extenders that go into the pipe. But I didn't know that they made them to go over a coupling. Good to know on that. Thanks.

    @SPL Thank you! I had a 2" male threaded PVC fitting on the outlet side of a big Hayward Star-Clear Plus pool filter that was leaking and no matter what I tried still kept seeping water. I tried various different kinds and thicknesses of PVC thread tape, pipe dope sealants, and even tried thread tape along with silicone sealer and it still kept seeping/leaking. Then I saw this video and figured what have I got to lose so I picked up a stick of the Plasto-Joint Stick Thread Sealant you used in this video. I cleaned out the female threaded joint in the pool filter and applied the Plasto-Joint Stick Thread Sealant thoroughly inside of it and also applied it thoroughly onto the male threads of the male 2" PVC adapter. The fitting is now sealed perfectly into the pool filter and no longer leaks or seeps any water at all under pressure. This Plasto-Joint Stick Thread Sealant is a life-saver for large, threaded and leak prone large PVC threaded fittings. It seems like the material of the Plasto-Joint Stick Thread Sealant is an almost dry, gooey and very super thick and concentrated implementation of what is in the regular white Oatey or similar pipe sealant compounds that are much thinner and easily brushed on. Anyway all I will ever use moving forward on PVC threaded fittings (especially large ones that seem looser and are more prone to leaks) will be this Plasto-Joint Stick Thread Sealant. Thanks again, you saved me having to buy a new $800 pool filter.

    Okay, I over did it on the glue for sure ;). Just didn't want the person copying this to apply too little... glad people can see the humor in it. I get a kick out of all the comments. Twisting is good, couldn't do much while holding the camera. Tripod would have came in handy on this one...

    Thanks again for your knowledge dude! You let me know just how easy it will be to change this out. Its just like what I learned to do with my sprinkler pipes. So I already have most of the stuff. I will leave the plastic bags in place until I can get to homedepot to get the rest of the stuff. You saved me much aggravation and money!

    I always prime my pipe so the glue gets a good surface to stick to..also i recommend turning the pipe just a little after you glue it so it gets a proper seating.

    I think they sell 2" PVC elbows, couplings and 2" PVC Pipes. I don't think they sell the threaded fitting for the top of the pump. You can order the Grainger Nipple, 2 X 12 In threaded fitting online if you needed. Maybe that store is priced high. The 2" x 12" Nipple peice should be around $10.00. The fitting extender if needed is about $8.00. The Elbows ans couplings should be about $2.00 each. Glue should be about $10.00 for .5pt.

    Why don't you use teflon tape? I have to put a threaded male adapter in a inground skimmer would, what would be the best sealant for the threads? Does teflon wear out?

    • @Aud1b1e1nc1s1on
      @Aud1b1e1nc1s1on 4 года назад +1

      From what I understand Teflon with pvc has some conflict , something about lubricating properties of the tape . I could be mistaken ... if look into though just to be safe!

    Don't you have to use primer before you but the glue on the PVC pipe?

  • @SPL
    @SPL  11 лет назад

    You mean you are trying to see if the skimmer is the cause of a leak in your pool? If that is why you are testing it you could try to add some drops of food coloring into the skimmer and see if the drops indicate a leak by flowing through it. Depending on your skimmer you can thread plugs into the holes in the bottom, fill it with water and mark the water line. Turn the pool completely off. Check back in 24 hrs to see if the water went down passed the mark.

    Hi, if the pipes are not snug does that prevent the pump from suctioning the water. My dad did that yesterday, he installed a pump and didn't wait 24 hours, he just turned it on and we still have the same problem, no water coming in, the pressure valve is at 0 and there is a leak it seems on the threaded fitting. Help!

  • @kjuarez29
    @kjuarez29 11 лет назад

    A lot of Home Depots dont sell the Joint Stick. They usually sell the paste. The paste works good too. Also, dont use a hacksaw to cut PVC. Get a pipe cutter, it makes a cleaner cut and you wont have to mess with any burring.

    Good video. What do you think about placing JB Weld Epoxy between the superpump and the beginning of the discharge? I see a small leak that is coming from the pump and seeping around the discharge.

    • @SPL
      @SPL  9 лет назад

      ***** Never tried JB Weld on it but it might work. There is a lot of water pressure so not sure. Worth a shot - used JB Weld on a Stainless steel filter and it plugged the pin hole nicely. Good stuff.

      It could be a number of things sounds like you need a check valve on the intake pipe of pump especially if the pump equipment sits higher than the pool water. If its higher i would put check valves on intake, skimmers and main drain..hope that helps.

      Chapo guzman once you remove the back plate (It is held on by two hex screws) you will see a simple wire set-up for the pump. The wires are held on my screws - just loosen them and you can pull the wires off. After wires are off of the motor you can unscrew the grey cord and remove the pump & motor.
