The best thing about this documentary is the way they contrast the students with the professionals, showing how each exercise is designed with specific goals in mind. It's lovely!
I LOVE the way I have no idea what they are saying in French but I understand it from the ballet terminology and the movements themselves. Ballet is a universal language xxx
I swear I've seen this clip a hundred time...I LOVE this particular clip. Esp when they are doing tendu, it makes my eyes spin. The coup de le pied also very impressive.
BIGHIN GIULIO RENZO. 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
wow the barre work was soo fast. great stuff. I love how when the dancer in white is demonstrating for the younger dancers, how the younger dancers are discussing the move the dancer in white performing. it looks like hard work but the dancers look amazing.
the girl in the middle at the end is Ghislaine Fallou. She was 14 at the time but already a graduating student. She had to repeat the year, however, in order to join the corps the ballet because at 14 she was still too young. I think the other girls are a bit older than her, between 15 and 17.
Did you recognize young aurelie dupont. At one moment the headmaster claude bessy says : i know it's hard but you must push till the end. It' when you are getting exausted that you are improving ! All is said.
She told her to push herself harder with each step, that it's at that moment of exhaustion that she can work through the tiredness and make real progress, but that instead Aurelie lets go when she is tired...
of course its not too late. i started when i was about three and i loved it. and when i was twelve there was a fourteen year old i my class dancing for the first time ever and there were some points where she outshined me. follow your dreams and go for it.
It is a cultural thing that is a little difficult to explain. The way your explain the translation however is very accurate and your key to understanding them. To fully be in total control of your body is not only a physical excercise but a mental one. In Russia (and with Russian teachers) in order to do well and not injure yourself you have to work smart not just hard. They may never say this but they want you to draw that conclusion. You know your limits and how to push yourself beyond them.
the best classical ballet academy in the world only from here sublime and unparalleled dancers have come out ... the other schools churn out high-level dancers a common product for an academy
Ankles don't hurt during jumps, but ankles can often feel strained on pointe when transition from flat to releve. That's why dancers on pointe are required to acquire significant ankle strength first.
Um, well, with work comes progress... One of those girls in the purple is the young Aurelie Dupont, a Etoile dancer with Paris Opera. She's fantastic now. Look her up.
Admire them! Anyone know where to buy this video? I went to Amazon and I found this video on "Etoiles - Dancers of the Paris Opera Ballet". Is this the correct video I'm looking for? Thanks for your help! Reply!
No.. This video is from the late 80s. blue : Miteki Kudo, Noemie Djiniadis White :?, Raphaelle Delaunay violet : Delphine Baey, Aurélie Dupont pas de deux :Nicholas LeRiche (?), Ghislaine Fallou
Why do all of them have such high arches?? Did they make them by efforts, or were they just born with them? The girls are amazing, I wish I could dance like them.
my ankles are hurting just watchin this. I have a question. Dont yall ankles hurt after doing that en pointe or watever? especially when u are jumping from one leg to another?
AAAArrrghhh! That´s just not fair! Some people just has IT! I´ve been practising classical ballet for seven and a half year now, and I´m not even half as good as those irritating, bloody ten-year-old french children... Fortunately, I´m not going to be a classical dancer, lucky me :P! Anyhow, they´re all AMAYSING! VIVE LA FRANCE!
Iswearyou Fallou-Lagache-Marrache or Alexandra gonin -Jennifer Goube were an erea of Sujets before ten years before A Dupont , you mixe all generations of danseurs : un non sens ce que vous écrivez .

@xSugarplum Yes you are right that anyone what can point their foot correctly, but what she is saying is that there are people who have a high arche (" coup-de pied") and then she asked the girl to curl her foot to try to imitate how people without a high aches may seem when their foot is pointed, demonstrating that the line is cut. She is not talking about pointing your foot correctly.
Aurelie was beautiful even as a kid! Can someone who understands French translate what the teacher is saying to Aurelie and the other girl in purple near the end? is it good or bad?
@monequu well, actually. She is not really saying that if you don't point your foot in the right way. It actually is in your bohnes. Some people are born with an arch, others aren't. And the people who don't have the arch will never be able to poiunt their foot correctly. Otherwise, the rest is correct :) ( im french)
My comments were clearly addressing the methodology of the school, not a personal attack on the dancers and students. They are beautiful kids, the best bodies (they were selected for this, after all). I am well familiar with their syllabus, and there are very obvious inconsistencies in the material only some of which are evident in this presentation. Not enough space to go into details, too bad.
The difference in between the Opera and the Vaganova academy, I think, is that the French ballet is much... faster. The center exercises for example, are much much faster, where as the russian exercises are more down to basics, simpler, more perfectionist-like :p

I love how the boys in partnering class haven't really developed their skills yet. It's cute!

BRAVO...I could watch classes at this studio all day long...now that's ballet; in any language!!!
the leaps of the girl in white are absolutely magnificent i hope i can start doing ballet again so that i may learn to do those beautiful dance steps

I really admire the french training, it produces these amazing dancers, but you dont see the mean teachers who insult their students to tears

what does the teacher get mad about? was the girl not jumping high enough of pointing her feet?
@balletkido She wanted her to "push" more, i think she wanted her to jump higher, which is why she said:" Je vois rien (i don't see anything).
