Because of this video, it got me into tiny moving parts, got me deeply influenced by Dylan, I dedicated a whole hour learning this riff and ever since then I’ve been playing math rock and Midwest emo. Playing this riff is always my warm up and inspiration. Tapping math rock is now part of my playing and after 6 years of playing never thought I could be able to do that and still learning new things from it every single day. Thank you man for this video I owe you a lot🤟🏻🖤
@@LetsTalkAboutMathRock At first I was thinking "That's funny, immediately after he says the strings aren't going to break, he looks away while he's tuning." Then I realized that you were focused on the same spot each time and probably looking at a tuner.
This song is just so fun to play, first math rock song I learned to play, another great tapping lick by Tiny Moving Parts for beginners is the solo from Medicine
I’m working on this but what I’m trying is holding the pick with both index and middle fingers for picking. That way when I need to tap I can use the index finger to tap.
Nice! I'm not sure how Dylan does it exactly because I have seen him in videos hold the pick in his palm and in other's have the pick in hand and use just his middle finger to tap them all. Doesn't really mater though, just go with what is most comfortable.
It is really simple tbh but it can be tricky at first especially if you’re new to tapping stuff or math rock in general, just give it some time and you’ll definitely get it down
Non in particular. If you are going to change tuning then you might want to think more about it. For standard tuning though just use what is most comfortable for you. Most players either use 9s or 10s. From there, if you tune up then the rule is usually to drop a guage for that particular string, and to do the opposite if you drop the tuning of a string. For example, based on a set of 9s for DAEAC#E tuning: D - 46 (10s) A - 32 (9s) E - 22 (8s) A - 14 (8s) C# - 11 (8s) E - 9 (9s) I would recommended using strings from a company that will let you mix and match a pack for this tuning, otherwise you'd need to buy three different sets of strings. this is the best way to balance the tension across the neck and to make it the most comfortable for you to play. you could also tune to CDDGBD for the same tuning a step down.
I've been doing a ton of tapping practice recently and have come up with a few FACGCE etudes that really help get control down... may upload eventually but I'm intermediate-level and insecure
such a good and useful video but i got a problem when i tap on 8 fret my string is squeaking what do i do with it? maybe just go to a store and buy new strings ( problem( squeaking) is only with 3 down strings even without capo)
Hey Steve, thanks fir this great beginner tapping riff tutorial. May I ask should the thumb rest on the neck immediately after hitting the base note? When I do this, I sometimes would mute the sixth string.
"when tuning strings up, as long as you have them on correctly no breaks or extra tension will occur" Me nervously tuning up a string while looking away for incase it breaks... a lot
Hello you lovelies. Hope you find this one useful! Master the math rock finger tapping technique here 👉 bit.ly/3zKIcTY
Such a perfect first riff. Not too difficult but it still makes you feel like an absolute tapping god
Man, I like talking more about math rock than my math grades
First one I actually learned was the Shibuya intro riff and then I came back a year later and learnt the whole song, one of coverts best tracks imo

Thank you so much for this series, this is actually what I really needed!
You're welcome! Thank you
@@LetsTalkAboutMathRock brother do you have a rock band or something like that? I really love every sound you make on your guitar 🔥🎸
@@Jonh548 he's in a band called mountains, he's also released a few solo songs as well
1:40 kinda sounds like that funny horn
Haha, yeah didn't notice that
This series is great!
I like how he looks away from the guitar when he tunes it😂
Lol, was looking at the tuner

Hey Steve this riff was pretty fun to learn and i got inspired almost immediately but im just looking for how can i make my tapping louder
Great video. Suggestion for some Two Knights tutorials
love Two Knights!
How do you make that sustain? I don't have a compressor and the one from amplitube isn't enough I guess, with the clean amp I can't tap like this
"They shouldn't be breaking"
Me who plays everything in DAEAC#E: Yea that's not how my G String feels :(
Always focused was my start to tapping. Ive recently started learning atreyu to improve further. That one's kicking my a$$ a bit lol

everyone ik keeps telling im not bad at guitar but i cant even play this and its simple

Great video it’s just really tough to follow along when you’re first learning this genre.
What would be a good String Gauge for playing math rock?

Thanks man, great tutorial. Are you using an overdrive or is that just the sweet Vox jangle?
Nope amps more of a prop these days. I'm using a Universal Audio Dream 65 pedal for the amp sound
@Let's Talk About Math Rock ah, those UA emulators are amazing.
Awesome tutorial Steve! I just thought I'd point out you put "Prefect" in the title instead of "Perfect."
Whoops! Thanks
That was my first tapping riff, it’s a great starter for sure👍
Do 12 string mathrock/Midwest emo etc. We need a 12 string Tele lmao
HEY I had this Idea: try playing mathrock using a 12 string guitar !!! Really wanna see this I'd try it myself but I have 23$ in my bank account
