    Great result. With the spec analyzers only a few $, the manufacturers should have no excuse for something failing harmonics and spurious testing.

    I bought a Nano VNA years ago, and played with it, but never really used it. Yesterday, inspired by your use of the VNAs, I tested my home brewed 2M Moxon, which I modified this week with a pair of parasitic elements for 70CM. The testing took about 20 minutes, and the antenna seems to be tuned OK. I like your ongoing testing series, and like that your not giving the "big" names an automatic pass.

    • @TheSmokinApe

      Nobody gets a free pass here! lol... The VNA is essential if you want to know what's going in with the antenna 👍

    FWIW the one UV5R I tested would have scraped through with a pass (I am not in an FCC jurisdiction), the majority of the main brands are terrific, often every harmonic or spur at below -70dBc.

    You can disable the averaging on the left side and it settles immediately. Since the carrier is constant and you don’t need a few sweeps to get a reading, it should be fine for this test.

      Nice tip PCF, but I do like the averaging as I feel it keeps everyone honest... lol 👍

    It would be good to also test the icom ic-2730a. But i wouldn't expect you to get one of those. I have an ic -2300H and I know it puts out a signal on the third harmonic. Which in my very unscientific test with a whip anntena and my tinysa normal wasn't in spec.

    I wouldn't say "it's clean". Id say all harmonics are in to the noise. If you zoom in to the harmonic frequency and use a smaller bandwidth, you will see there are harmonics and you can measure them for real that way. If you really want to measure them, follow up the 2nd attenuator with a high pass filter and remove the fundamental from the measurement. Any chance of the SA being desensed will be removed. But we can see that the harmonics look good. They are probably in the -75 to -85 dB range.

    When you tested 70cm the screen on the computer it showed the marker 1 was reading at 432.9 MHz instead of 432 MHz. Does this mean that the radio is transmitting off frequency?

    • @TheSmokinApe
      @TheSmokinApe  Год назад

      No, it just is because the span being swept was so large and there are only so many data points. If we zoomed in it would be fine 👍
