Every year I got sick and tired of having to spread the gravel back up in driveway because id always push some back from plowing then I seen this video this winter and tried it out and so fare it's been good i appreciate the info buddy it truly helped save me from having to spread the gravel back into driveway
I have been using this trick for 3 winters now, with the same PVC pipe, even with over 800 feet of driveway. I use it mostly in early winter, until a layer of ice forms and the gravel freezes in place. Before using this trick, the Kubota's snowblower was scattering kilos of gravel in the forest, in addition to wearing out the paint and all the parts like a grinder would do.
@@ronlarson1225 It works pretty good… Sometimes I think a little more down pressure on the blade would be helpful though. But you don’t have to worry about digging up your gravel driveway or even digging up your lawn if you turn around on the grass!
What a beautiful idea I'm sick of shoveling gravel off the side of the driveway!!! I bet that'll work great for blowing the trails in the woods around here too.
I heard about this hack, and tried it for the first time. I have recycled asphalt on a 1/4 mile driveway. Even though I use the hockey pucks “snow shoes”, all it takes is going too fast and a strong bump and the hockey puck will drag a nice long gash in your driveway, The ABS pipe will keep that from happening. Like you said, the purpose is to take off enough of the snow it should melt after the sun comes out.
Made a skid from a length of 1/2 pipe ... (2" diameter) with a short piece of flat stock welded 6 inches from either end across the flats to bolt it to the blade where the sliders would normally be fixed.... works great .... its effectively the same thing but a lot more robust.
What a great idea! Especially until you get that crusty layer down and frozen over the gravel then you can use the plow as normal. Glad i found the video, thanks!!
I have the 60" Kimpex Click n Go 2 on my Grizzly 700, awesome plow.. I have the side panels (drift cutters) installed, also running diamond style v-bar tire chains on the rear. This thing is a tank and will push huge mounds of wet heavy snow!! If your driveway is on a slope, definitely get the tire chains, especially if you're pushing up hill. I'd go front and rear in this case just to be sure. It's impressive how well an atv pushes snow with chains. The plow itself is a very clever design IMO, I would definitely recommend it to anybody on the fence about buying it.
It works good at the beginning of the winter so the blade doesn't dig into the gravel driveway. Then as the snow gets frozen and makes a good hardpacked surface, then I take it off and use the blade to keep it scraped clean. My shoes are set so the blade just touches the surface but doesn't dig it.
I'll be installing a plow on my husqvarna garden tractor next month and cop ying this idea. I have a 250 foot gravel driveway tgat is a hassle to snowblow.
Great idea, was looking to upgrade undersized useless skid shoes on my blade, now I don’t, when pipes wear down I just replace with the new one👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I did something similar with my snow blower on my lawn tractor for my gravel driveway....keeps from digging into the gravel and throwing rocks. I used steel pipe though, don't want to have to replace it all the time from getting broken.
Update: I first tried this a few days ago. Works great on gravel! No gouging no kickback. The ABS stays put. It shows signs of wear. But now that there is no gravel on the surface, it won’t wear as quick. Even if it only lasts a winter, it is a cheap hack!
Thanks for the update. This is my 1st year with an ATV & plow (Moose plow 60" on a Polaris 500 HO EFI)...I live in N. Saskatchewan Canada so sometimes we get 1st snow before freeze up and makes plowing a nightmare. The shoes dig into the soft gravel/grass and really had me concerned. I came on here and found this hack, and great to hear it worked well for you. I just cut my PVC pipe today and will put it on tomorrow and ready for our 1st snow that is supposed to come this weekend and we are not at freeze up yet...so I am looking forward to it now and not dreading it. Cheers
@@flyinthebug35 Dec. 8 '22. I've had your same 4WLR & Moose plow for several years now with gravel driveway/parking area. I also plow paths through my yard and woods so we can walk our dogs. The rig works much better with the PVC protector on the blade edge. It just wears out after a couple years. Tnx from North PA
Just tried this with ABS pipe, 20 minutes into plowing the ABS tubing cracked then split down the center. I know I hit a small rock that did it. This would be fine on a paved drive, not really gravel. Though it is 16 f. here this morning. This worked great on the lawn though.
Nice one. I have a long gravel driveway and while the snowblower works well on it (I have Armorskids on the sides of the auger bucket) I hate using the snowblower up at the road where the highway plows throw larger rocks etc. I am leaning towards something like this. Can I ask, do you have any general advice on ATV / plow set ups? Are any of the centrifugal clutches / HST transmissions better or worse? Thanks much.
I might have to try this on my Polaris UTV plow as I sure do push a lot of rocks and why I have not used it very much. I have been running a walk behind blower instead, this would save me quite a bit of time if it works. Thanks!
Actually I haven't. I had forgotten about this and have since plowed just this past week. I don't think it will work honestly as it will likely just ramp up over the snow. I'll be putting my skid plates back on that I took off when I find them...which will basically do the same without uplift
So I thought this was a great idea. I bought white drain pipe (1.5" diameter) and tried it out. The pipe ended up cracking and started breaking off in pieces within the first few hundred feet. Did you have good luck with the black?
I’ve got lots of 2 inch laying around from my irrigation system so I’m going to use 2 inch. Just discovered the channel. Subbed. I know I’m going to enjoy it. Thank you sir👍🏻
Problem with my plow on my quad, is even with the shoes installed with the blade a 1/2” above the gravel, the shoes themselves are digging into the gravel.. thinking of removing them and using ABS pipe
Roland.. this is an awesome idea.well by golly.. IT WORKED. loving this. you made a Ellie pee path without ruining the lawn. Mr. Fix It does it again. 👏💚
Bought this for my small back deck in the Eastern Sierra. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxoHYZbq5g9fkcAtinlTqstNlje-UQkCHN We get A LOT of HEAVY snow so I was a bit skeptical but it was worth it! After the first storm of the year this has exceeded expectations! It throws snow very well, even 10-12” + that said the more it piles up the harder it is to maneuver the machine. It is exceptionally light weight and overall exactly what I was looking for. If you have a large amount of snow and a lot of area to clear, you may consider something with a drive engine to help maneuverability, but for decks, second stories, roofs etc, you can’t beat the light weight to great snow throwing ratio. Side note, the chute rotator is a bit flimsy and it initially didn’t seem to work, after a few uses it seems to have loosened up.

I followed your advice and put 1 1/2 “ sch 40 plastic pipe on my John Deere 48” blade. Works very good. I removed the skid shoes first.
Great to hear!
It works!! Just did it to my plow just before a wet march snowstorm and it worked perfect!!
And here I thought I was the first to try this. I have the same deal on my blade and it works great.
Thank for the tip, I try it and my driveway never has been so flat Great idea
This is a great idea and as a plus, it allows the steering to work way better when making a turn as it makes the blade a slider instead of a brake.
Glad you like it. Thank you for watching!
This guy has got a fix for everything! Love it Roland and keep helping us out!
Great idea!!!Ive been dreading plowing my gravel driveway for years!Gets old picking gravels off the grass come spring!
You can do it!
Thank you Roland ,did mine today. It works smoother.Keep the good hacks coming.

Oh thats not good. The pipe is so cool and saves money on gravel lol

Great video! that's the problem I've been having. No matter how I adjust the plow it would dig gravel.
The thing that helps is to rent a compactor roller and flatten and press those stones and rocks into the gravel when wet

Started doing that even on snowblower 20 years ago, no more gravel on lawns.
Great idea! Thanks! Can’t wait for snow now.
Have fun!
Good idea. Just wondering why you didn’t use a 2” galvanized fence post instead? Seems like it would be more durable than abs pipe.
I just used what I had
going to do this to my 3 point blade on the tractor . thinking about bolting another half of a pipe underneath first pipe with edge facing forward.

1.5

Wonder if a smaller version would work on a snow blower.
Only if you can make it so the pipe doesn't come detached
What type of mount do you have on your four wheeler? Where did you get your plow from?
It's a click n go mount made for my atv. go to any atv dealer and they can order it for you or you can order yourself online. 🙂
