That 51 car which qualified on pole was my Dads car. Rubis would have won easily but he was a mental basketcase that weekend, he stalled the car and in his freakout over doing so, he snapped the key off in the ignition (this car had a master switch but still retained a normal Holden ignition key) which led to him having to start from pitlane.
The funniest part about this was that the week leading up to this, Rubis acted like an absolute clown, my Dad had his mechanic employee, Franko, build a new engine for this car and it was an absolute weapon, Dad had ran in on the Monday before this race meeting and had been in the 4.9s at lakeside which was the fastest any of us had ever seen an HQ run at Lakeside. Anyway, Rubis was a very pompous character, and due to Franko being a bit rough, Rubis had a major issue with having an engine that he had built (His thinking was that because Franko was a rough character that he must also be an uneducated idiot) so he made my Dad change the engine out at the last minute for an inferior engine, built by Mark Bevan at C&B performance in Sydney, the engine was a great engine initially but by this stage had done a lot of miles and was far from optimal, our C&B engines also ran extremely high comp (well up in the 13s) which meant that the initial advance had to be less advanced, due to curve limitations, to allow the thing to actually run a race without torching a head gasket (HQs were particularly susceptible to a big ping on the 2-3 gearchange as the engines laboured so much when you pulled em into 3rd and a couple too many degrees total timing and a bad ping was all it took to ruin one) So anyway the basic gist of the story is that this whole debacle was self inflicted on Robert Rubis' part.

I was unable to upload them to RUclips as Races 1 and 2 of the TCM got blocked worldwide by Supercars as soon as it was uploaded.

Yes they do they hold local state championship rounds across the country. They are still very popular along with the Holden Gemini's.
