    ...You may know TCL as one of the largest TV manufacturers in the world. And now, RayNeo has become an industry leader in AR innovation. Currently holding a 28.4% market share in China’s consumer AR smartglasses industry.
    So with this reputation, I couldn't help but be intrigued when they reached out as I've been wondering what their glasses bring to the table. So, a big shoutout to TCL for sending them our way and sponsoring this video. As always, my opinions are my own, and in this episode, I'll be sharing my first impressions. Stay tuned for a full review coming later.

    These kind of displays are definitely the future. I just want a design that uses size of the whole lens. I don't care about being able to see around the display-screen. Since the periphery around the actual frame is open, that is enough.

    My use case for these might be video games, but it's mainly media consumption.
    I need good FOV and immersion. i need opaque viewing possibility, something that shades when I need them to so I can watch a movie on a plane for instance. I want them wireless, maybe with an sd card input so I can bring the movies with me. Being able to make it through a full length movie is essential so 2 hours battery life (or being able to plug them into a portable battery I suppose) is essential. Screen mirroring is a plus, and perhaps opaque can be an option, but being able to see the screen without seeing things THROUGH the media screen is really important.

      It supports 3DoF but it doesn't make use of it a lot. Only when you use it with a PC you can stick screens in your space, or when you connect it to a supported Android phone in XR mode. The software is early still. I personally never use the 3DoF because of that. I would love to see this more supported by smartglasses like these.

    Hey Cas, great video. I got the Xreal Air 2 Pro, but I'm not impressed with them at all. I got them mainly to watch 3D movies from RUclips or DVD, but they don't seem to work with anything from RUclips. When in 3D mode the display just gets cut into two halves with some space in the middle, but no 3D effect. The only 3D effect I've been able to see is some of the graphics they have on their Nebula appliation, but no video. I was wondering if these RayNeo glasses capable of displaying video clips from RUclips in 3D mode.

    Is the virtual screen always fixed in front, or can it be anchored in place? Does it depend on what device you're connected to?

    • @Devloup

    • @CasandChary
      @CasandChary  8 месяцев назад

      It supports it (3DoF anchoring) but the software is too early so it doesn't make use of it a lot. Only the PC software and XR mode (with compatible phone) use it right now. If you're like me you probably won't use it a lot, hopefully we will see it more supported natively soon.

Same problem with other similar glasses. So its a no go for me cuz it cause too much eye strain when i have to wear it super close just to see the whole screen.

    I saw the first version and thought about getting them, but once i saw the price i was confused why they are just as expensive as a high storage version of the Quest2.
    Now you promote the new version and i AGAIN see that they cost 379$ PLUS 97$ for shipping to europe. There is NO WAY that i will spend ~500€ to import this to "give it a try".
    Should they one day go down to like 200€ i would give this tech a chance, but this is in no way competetive pricing for tech that a quest3 and future models with path though could do just as well... if not even better.

    Hey CAS, quick question, what were you eating at 6:43?
    I'm looking forward to seeing a comparison with the nreal air latest offers. I play VR quite a bit so these products seem interesting but I don't really see how applicable it would be to me on it's day to day usage. Maybe a good idea for a video would be why you'd use a product like this and how it compares to using something like a quest 3 in passthrough. Like for example, I tried using my quest for working in VR using Immersed but it was too much of a hassle with windows moving all over the place, battery life being depleted even despite being connect to it's charger, and latency between what I see on the I did on the PC and what I see on the headset, etc. Would these be a step up for that use case?

    • @CasandChary
      @CasandChary  8 месяцев назад +4

      What @Youkai_graphics said. It's Taiwanese pineapple cake :D
      That's a good idea for a video, I've been thinking about it too ever since Q3 came out. Because Q3 is getting amazing as well for doing screen mirroring and playing flat games, but in short, I think it's a harder setup and less comfortable than glasses. You get VR too tho, so the price is more... Justified. The glasses have better video output, easier to mirror screens that have USB C DP and more ergonomic when you travel a lot. So I think it really depends on what you could use it for.
      For me... I rather game on my Switch with the glasses than without if I don't have my big TV around. It's too much to explain in a comment so I'ma think about working on a video as you suggested, thank you!!

    Do you know if the lenses have UV protection? I learned from Xreal's customer service that their glasses don't have UV protection and shouldn't be used outdoors. I am curious if TCL thought of this. The issue is tinted glasses without UV protection will cause your pupils to open when outside and increase the UV light entering and cause damage over a long time.

    • @mikeyr5275
      @mikeyr5275 7 месяцев назад

      It's kinda bizarre to me that they didn't add a UV-blocking coating to the outside, yeah. I wouldn't trust any of these products (Xreal, RayNeo, Rokid, etc.) as sunglasses until they've been tested as blocking UV.
      One small detail that makes this less of a risk: if you are actually using these glasses to display something -- as long as what they are showing isn't dim / dark -- your pupils will be contracted to see the bright screen, and your UV exposure won't be too crazy, assuming you're not actually looking at the sun or something.

    I tried these glasses and I ended up sending them back because there's no pupillary distance settings. My eyes are wider than the center of the lens. I read a lot of comments saying that the edges of the screens are blurry and the reason why is? It's that their pupils are set wider than the center of the OLED panels. Why don't these companies make an adjustment for pupillary distance. My Quest 2 has an adjustment widen the lenses. I also tried the new Rayneo glasses and they are the same.

    I think the reason people don't know about this category of device is because consumer electronics companies don't WANT people to know. This technology is cheap and replaces a lot of expensive tech. A giant OLED TV on your face means that the "home theater" and everything in it disappears. Even couches and coffee tables will sell less when everyone has a TV on their face.
