Different pronation, it is the same...the wrist and arm both prontae out and away from the body after impact with the ball. if there is any differance it is because one is hitting a topspin and the other a flat serve..pronation happens after impact of the ball not before it is simply a result of the swing path pulling the arm and wrist out in a twisting motion away from the body due to trying to hit spin.
Forget his torso rotation, look at how he puts his legs into his shot! Check out the forehand at 0:55. Look at how his knee is bent before he hits it and how he launches at least a foot off the ground. Also notice that before he hits the shot he is in a semi-closed stance, half way between closed and open. When he lands, though, his right foot is actually in front of his left. That's where the pros generate a LOT of their power.
The amazing part of it is that the left leg starts further forward but the momentum of the swing is so strong that when he lands his left leg finishes further back ... if you catch my drift
@gz28 No that is a poor analysis.. Djokovic's old serve looked more like Pete's. Federer and Sampras have completely different pronation. Yes, they both turn their backs when winding up, but many players have done that. Federer's service motion works perfectly for trying to be accurate, while Sampras is clearly about the power.
Pete sampres's server and Federer's serve is "similar" (looks identical to me) because sampres was federer's idol he used sampres's form and literally copied it which i think is AWESOME! If only i could copy sampres's form like that! :-) I have actually tried breaking up the down together up together motion of the tossing and hitting arm...I just cant seem to do it :-)
That's exactly my point. Obviously youngsters will try to emulate him,and they won't have the talent to pull it off. So you'll have a lot of frustrated kids who look good one moment, and are mis-hitting like crazy the next.
Even before Fed became "Federer" I was impressed by the strength in his wrist. It doesnt look that big, like Rod Lavers, but I saw him hit an incredible backhand smash. Nadals a different story. His forehand is so unorthodox, so unattractive, I cringe when I see it. But it works for him. It's a heavy ball with serious top, and sidespin. Even with Fed's stength, that heavy ball is very difficult to handle on his backhand. But I don't think his arm can take that kind of pounding much longer .
I can hear the fed fanboys touching themselves in the back of the room. It is always interesting to watch slowmotion shots, i have always wanted to watch my own in slowmothion to see my mistakes.
Tremendous " wrist lay back" on his forehand and then a whipping follow through. Generally that's not good but it works for him. i love the way he keeps his head down after contact. Hate the song. It makes it difficult to watch.
those 2 forehands after 45 sec are unbelievable. I cant comprehend someone playing tennis like that. No one else can do that.
This ain't tennis, this is art with a racquet
0:46 the most beautiful
Beautifull! Notine how he ALWAYS keeps his eyes in the pont of contact with the ball for a fraction second! Important lesson for begginers like me!
that comparison with Sampras was amazing. they look identical!
the song is elegant yet epic
0:50, the MOST BEAUTIFUL forehand that has ever been done. :-D
Sampras and Federer serving side-by-side on 2:55.
Very impressive!

Federer is art in motion. Picture peRFect!
very classy, Thanks for uploading. I wish my forehand was 10% as good as Fed's.

i think the movement of the torso is important in both FH and BH...i think....it's something i see constantly in this video

I'd ask you, what is the role of music soundtrack, in a video about tennis? boh!
errr that bloke in yellow at the end isn't Fed. Verdasco?

I find it easier to concentrate on his superb shot-making if I switch off the volume of my speakers
the one at 0:55 is awesome !
lol wats up wit gonzo's forehand at the end? i thought it was all fed....
Haha to put one Gonzo forehand at the end is kind of a strange (although I could think of some motives) but for the rest it's a good nice video
@huhuluihuhu No, Verdasco's a lefty.

KING FEDERER!LIKE IF YOU AGREE!
Gonzalez forehand is great .. but to compare it to Federer's .. I laughed :D
@fatman93186 its funny that someone with the name fatman is going to criticize the best tennis player the world has produced...
So this is what it takes to compete in tennis today.....I want my mummy!
it's all a part of the uk, that's why he's considered british
muy bueno muestra a Federer con toda su tecnica y elegancia en el tenis, pero la cagaron cuando pusieron al pesado chieno Gonzales esta demas.
what the hell andy roddick is american/plays for america
and its a lot more than a foot. They all do at least a foot.
lol its funny that someone has to explain how scotland is part of britain. i wonder if they're from world america....
Tremendous " wrist lay back" on his forehand and then a whipping follow through. Generally that's not good but it works for him. i love the way he keeps his head down after contact.
Hate the song. It makes it difficult to watch.
