- Over the last few days, there has been a lot of talk about short track speed skating at the Olympics in Beijing. Is China cheating? Should Hwang Dae-Heon have been disqualified? Watch to see the international reaction.

Not to mention, there's also footage floating around on of the Mixed Relay, where the Chinese skater doesn't even officially touch their teammate, but he starts skating off and they end up advancing and winning.
How are all the other countries reviewed so closely by the "rules" and via camera and DQ'd, but a NO TOUCH fake start in a relay is passed by? It's just absolute disrespect to the sport and the world watching.
That happened because a russian skater obstructed, and the russian skater actually touched the chinese skater, so he probably thought it was clean.
@@pite9 Sure but that's what the cameras are there for. Other teams were penalized with questionable calls after reviewing footage, so this one should have been the easiest call to make in a relay - not subjective at all. But everyone at these games turned a blind eye, as if keeping it hush hush on their end would make it seem okay to the rest of the world.
@@AW007 You can't disqualify them for not touching when it was another team that prevented them from doing it. To an extent you can expect having to move around other skaters in a relay, but this was a very severe case of the russian skater being out of position, and the russian skater also touched the chinese, which made it impossible for him to know that their real teammate never touched them. Basically, in that situation, no matter what the first chinese skater did, it was straight out impossible for her to get to her teammate in time. If the russian never touched the next chinese skater, maybe you'd have an argument, but even then it would still be severe obstruction, which most likely would have granted China a pass to the next round.
@@pite9 There are still rules to follow in cases where touch becomes obstructed. Should be chasing teammate down until you get the touch or it's a DQ. Can't believe I'm using them as an example but the Russian team also looked like they couldn't connect, so first skater continued until they could give the touch. All the skaters get bunched up trying to get to their teammate during the switch, naturally. Just saying they were in our way isn't a good excuse.
If we are going by how strict the judges were on whatever rules the other athletes broke to DQ them, they should've taken the same stance here. We can agree to disagree but there were many short track calls skewed in favor of one country at the expense of others.
Hi, I'm Chinese-Canadian. My mom some how manipulated me into thinking that the Koreans were cheating and that the Chinese athletes were the victims. I even wrote a rude comment towards a Korean telling them to like go back to their country or something, it was very rude. I think my mother got me to believe in Chinese supremacy from a young age but I have now realized my mistakes and I'm very sorry for what I said.
It's not your fault. I understand that you couldn't belive that your country have done that but even you feeling embarrassed we Koreans will forgive you guys. Feeling embarrassed meaning that you guys feeling not good about it. But other Chinese people doesn't agree about it. Even they doesn't have any evidence korea cheating they believing it. Thank you. I'm a Korean. If you follow the news on Korean short track union, you will find some shameful things they have done. South Korea is a great country and South Koreans are great people. I'm proud of my country. But I am really ashamed of a couple of South Korean short track skaters and its governing body. They have done things a human being should never do and they simply blame the nature of short track skating to justify their greed and immoral acts. I think short track skating should be either banned or taken out of the Olympic games at least. It doesn't promote the spirit of the Olympic games. South Korea doesn't need a medal from short track skating to show that they are great.

You saw exactly what I saw. Chinese don't play fair and they really don't care what people think about them. During last Olympic, one Chinese woman skater tried to grab and pull down a Korean skater at the finish line. It was hysterical and unbelievable.
I'm a Korean. That's what a Korean gold medalist has done at a recent international game. I'm really against short track skating and it should be at least taken out of the Olympic games. If you follow the Korean news, Korean short track team has done awful things to even their on team members and the governing body simply ignores their hedious acts as long as they bring in medal to make them rich. I do not condone what the Chinese did at the games. Yet a couple of Korean short track skaters have done much done hedious immoral conducts and the governing body refuse to correct the serious damage. The news has to be spread internationally and should be mentioned in the global media. At least they should do some damage control.

@@user-bz2nx6en4p 원래 선수들이 넘어지면 다른 선수들 보호차에 날을 피해주는게 통상적인 예의래요. 문제는 중국인 선수가 그대로 갔고 그 결과 우리 선수는 손에 부상을 입었죠. 다행인 점은 그런 악재속에서도 선수는 부상입은채로 다음 경기에 출전해서 최선의 노력을 다했다는 점이죠.

채드 의견 절대적으로 공감합니다. 그래도 걱정했던 것 보다 중국 악플러들이 많지는 않네요. 인스타그램에서 쇼트트랙 판정에 대한 피드 올리면 중국 악플러들 몰려와 욕설로 도배가 되고 있어요. 스스로 국격을 떨어트리는 중국인들의 의식수준 혐오스러울 정도!

if it is only once, that can be a mistake but if it repeats, it's a pattern. sports should be fair and i strongly believe the IOC should be responsible for all these suspicions from this games since they are the ones who benefit the most from the Olympic games.

Thank you Chad for this video and I couldn't agree more!!! The #1 Mission Statement of the IOC is "to encourage and support the promotion of ethics and good governance in sport... ensuring that, in sport, the spirit of fair play prevails..." So, in my opinion, the IOC is responsible for the favoritism in the first place and should take action to prevent it from happening again. If not, they should change their mission statement to reflect the reality.

My 2nd comment after finding out how the Korean skater team welcomed and trained together with one skater from Turkey because the rule did not allow the use of the skating rink for one person to practice prior to the game. This is the spirit of Olympic. To elevate the harmony and unity of humanity for the benefit of ALL through Olympic based upon fair competition, challenging the human physical and mental capacity, respect and celebration for all athletics' devotion regardless of countries they are from.

The Canadian athlete who was penalized (Florence Brunelle) was not the same athlete who fell (Alyson Charles). Alyson Charles advanced to the semi-final 1 due to the fall. The penalty was called for "Lane Change Causing Contact" on Florence Brunelle. This video does not clarify this, and is misleading people

Ren could have been pushed out and fail to cross the line inside the track. So the "pull the Hungarian skater back" was a reaction to Liu's illegal move, and a reaction to an illegal move should be not be penalized.

The most shocking thing for me was to see Chinese ppl claiming Korean athletes did dirty play. So skeptical if we have same structure of eyes, but beyond that honestly, I think the vague rule is the most important thing should check out. China won gold medal mixed relay even though there was no touch between athletes. During the race, Chinese player threw an obstacle to the Canadian player's foot and knocked him down. Weirdly, the rule was so strict for Hwang and Lee who played so smoothly even without interrupting with others. And n WSJ, NYT, German/Norway/Canadian journal pointed out Chinese dirty playing. Get deal with the reality. Only China deny this.

I think what is more outrageous is how Chad twisted the truth. For example, the Hungarian received 2 penalties in the same race, resulting in a yellow card (Chad did not show this but it is on the official results and you can look up easily online). Before the incident with Ren at the finish line, he ALREADY got a penalty and was disqualified. That is why despite Ren also pulled him back, he did not receive a penalty. The Hungarian was already out of the race at that point, even if he did not impede Ren and just skate to finish first. If you actually watch short track speed skating before, you would have know this rule very well, it is not new. Same if you fall on your own (which happens often), you can skate but not at a position that impede with the leading skaters if you fall behind in lap number. By the way, the referee is the same guy who disqualified China's womens relay win in Pyeongchang 2018, which gave South Korea the gold. He also disqualified Ren in the mens 1500m semifinals, but whatever, when losers lose they play the victim card.
With that precision, that Chinese women skater should've gone into Curling instead. Very impressive skills. There's no way that's her 1st attempt. Wonder if they practiced that Mario Kart skills.

@@hellog386 I am still in contact with planners and engineers who were the parts of summer and winter Olympic events in the past. Some of them were involved 2022 Olympic event again after Tokyo. They have worked hard throughout the whole past years and were proud to support this event. The comments and articles they are sharing are what is giving me the idea of what is lost in this event, truly not what we have been pursing last years.
