FrontRunner train hits FedEx truck

- This dash camera video from the North Salt Lake Police Department shows a FrontRunner train tearing through a FedEx truck. A malfunction meant that no warning lights were flashing and the crossing arms were raised at the time of the crash, according to the Utah Transit Authority.
imagine check your delivery status and see:"unfortunately, your package has been hit by a train"
Underrated comment for sure😂

It’s probably happened to people
When the crossing guards go down after the train has hit the truck. PERFECT
Alexander Hamrick jhahahwhahah
They're like:
"Stick around. Here comes another one."
Alexander Hamrick ROFLMFAO! Yup.
Well the train is driving IN REVERSE to start with, the locomotive and its driver are at the opposite end.
So the truck got hit by the rear of a passenger wagon which probably only carries basic red lights, not front white long-range beams + antifog lights.
I guess most drivers seeing red lights on a track wouldn't detect an incoming train.
The true question here is: WTF is that passenger train riding in reverse ?
Sub-question: did that impact the signal mechanism failure ?
They don't turn the trains around, they always face the same way. There is a driver seat at both ends of the train so the driver can always be at the front of the train.
Cross road not blinking, no alarm, didn't come down. FedEx truck drive is innocent
Except that he was fully stopped, and then didn't bother to look both ways before crossing the tracks. IDIOT driver. I ALWAYS look both ways before crossing train tracks.
J T He wasn't fully stopped, look at the tires.
TLSPanthers Trucks don't stop at rail road crossings, only buses do that. The truck driver is going to get paid by that city major law suit.
pettway2000 I'm not saying he should have stopped. I was saying in response to the reply above, that he didn't stop on the train tracks. I know trucks don't have to stop.
beholdereye - That's correct. In Canada it's looked at in the same matter. Truck driver's fault 100%
Ha nice plot twist, you think it's gonna be the on in front of you, but it was actually a different truck.
[*ding ding ding ding ding...*] "A bit late now!"
Trent Hawkins Better late than pregnant!
macmedic892 LMAO LOLLLOL
I like at 0:49 - the driver of the SUV calmly decided to safely proceed thru the crossing after making sure the pulverized truck didn’t clog the road.
Yeah what if another one came out of nowhere again
I hope I'm not the only one that feels bad for the FedEx Truck
Too many lame kids online trying so hard to be funny. Even in these types of videos.
I felt bad about all the mail in there.
I do not
I feel so Random holiday did not get his package
Stop, look, listen, live! In bad weather don’t trust other drivers and never assume signals will work. This is taught in driving schools.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t sue the railroad. I would bet that many of those packages had hazardous materials in them. That means he had to make a complete stop and make sure he had no trains coming. It is the law according to every state. Unless you have a complete manifest stating there are no hazardous materials, you must assume it to be hazardous! ☢️☣️⚠️
Hope the wool coat i ordered online wasn't in that truck
Damn hope my fleshlight wasn't in there
hahaha
😂😂😂😀
Or maybe that new bumper that you ordered hehe
I don't get it
oh so that's why my package is late
I did not get my package either
Lol
Ha
Prime example of why you always look for a train even if there are crossing gates, they could not be working
Oh sh#t! That is awful! Hope the driver is OK and hope the train and it's passengers are OK
The driver is fine, the cab was undamaged, someone's shipment of Hunger Games books however was not.
haw haw XD
The Scarecrow Dude could've smacked his head or gotten whiplash though.
SH4D0WXR33CONt1 consider him lucky then
Fuck the driver, I hope my package is okay.
PLOT TWIST OMG SO INTENSE, THIS WHOLE TIME I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE THE FEDEX TRUCK IN FRONT OF YOU BUT NO ONE KNEW IT WAS THE INCOMING ONE *GASP*
Who thought it would be the first fedex truck
I have called the UTA and the Union Pacific about these crossing arms more than once. They either go down and get stuck or don't come down at all.
What if the spare parts for the crossing arms were in that truck....
The timing of the gates lowering AFTER the train destroys the trailer is comedy gold
The one time the railroad is at fault for hitting a vehicle. Take notes news outlets…
Once you know how these works... it needs to be a severe malfunction for this to happen... The basic concept is it detects trains by using the train to create a shortcircuit, or a malfunction. So if anything fails, the gates are lowering.
Very lucky. He was literally seconds away from the train hitting the truck rather than its trailer.
The Driver of the truck is not at fault, is was the gate maintinance operator that got fired because of this.
I like how the crossing arms come down after the accident LOL
Lol the car that just drives past the carnage. I mean if you're late, you're late
Gotta love the timely dropping of the gates.
I just feel bad for all those destroyed packages :/
At 17 seconds into the video you can see a signal maintainer's pickup truck parked off the road to the right with his emergency flashers on, to the right of his pickup about 30 feet you can see the signal box , it holds all the electronics to the gates, it's size is about 8 feet tall and about five feet square, he was there obviously because they were having trouble with the gates, he was either inside his truck or inside the signal box working on the electronics when this happened, the gates going down after the impact indicates to me he was inside the signal box working on the electronics .
At 51 to 53 seconds you can see appearing the guy from behind the open door of the signal box, looking right on the falling arms and red indicators working. Either he was puzzled that this escalated so quickly, or he was happy to make the gates working again :D
The funny part is, the trains was actually quite slow and tried to slow down because the truck shouldn't be there. Always look both sides when crossing, especially in snow where you are really slow.
Also, note how the dash cam car actually stops how you should do that? Signals can always malfunction, therefore double check before crossing as a train will destroy almost anything if at full speed.
What I notice is that arms are not down and signal lights are not flashing. I see what others mean. The arms come down, and signal lights come on, after the accident. What is more, the other semi was just seconds away from being "Creamed" too - just missed being hit by the train rocketing through. This show why we cannot always trust the signals to be working Thus us what we call "defensive driving," or always being in the defensive when we drive I guess.
This is exactly why you stop for tracks when you’re placarded with haz mat.
Truck in the right lane gets by just in time, too. Whew...
How are people trying to blame this guy, the visibility from the snow causes white out from a short distance, and the train was clearly far back if you use some logic, also by the time he saw it he probably new he was fucked and had no other choice but to drive forward or it would have been his life... Thank god he survived and wasn't his fault
There's also a curve right there that further limits visibility.
0:45 When you tell your parent that the clock isn’t moving.
0:49 when your parent comes in the room and the clock starts moving
Daaaaaaang, so THAT'S where my package went
Very bad crossing failure
This happened three blocks away from my house. 500 west 1700 south SLC, UT.
My questions are why were the arms up and the lights not flashing when the train was coming instead of flashing and lowering after it had already left?
If the other fedex truck was just 4 seconds slower to cross it would have been nailed too.
urbansustainability man, I was thinking the same thing. If it did, Fedex would be like, what? 2 trucks at once? Lol
@@appliancerepairshorts They'd be like what?
Nobody is giving credit to the train conductor for his relentlessness to get HIS cargo to the destination
Cause that was a passenger train
0:18 I CAME IN LIKE A WRECKING BALL
I am a trucker, only hazmat and tankers are required to stop at all RRTX. The fault is in the rail guards malfunctioning. That driver has a nice lawsuit coming in his favor
You had one job warning lights one job!
Thank god for the dash cam. Otherwise nobody would have believed the truck driver.
Crossing failure...but always look before you cross.
No one even gets out to see if the driver is okay smfh
Then they would get sued
Kicksno1fan how?
Jordan C the guy is probably shaken, but he probably got out in his own after the clip ended. But seriously, trucks should slow down and try to see down the tracks.
There is a clip, thats just a little longer, where the Police officers in the car taking the video get out right after you hear the police scanner and walk up to check on the driver. This clip literally stops right when they get out to check on the driver.
well if you watch the full video, this dash cam is from a cop car the cops get out and check out the truck driver
Good job by the officer driving this cruiser at keeping his eyes open. Most of us would have followed that first truck over the tracks and ended up as mince.
Having this on film, that the safety guard failed, saved this guy's butt and possibly job.
I Am Your President
we're going to make railroad guards Great again!!
I Am Your President FUCK Trump.
Screw Jim Solo
Jim Solo screw u
@@jimsolo5739 No, YOU! TRAITOR!!!
Whoa that was tough to watch! Thank God the driver is okay!
Wonder if the driver shipped his pants.
apparently the crossing was malfunctioning due to weather, so for about 10-15 minutes before this the gates were down and lights on, you can see the door open on the control box after the accident, railroad employee is working on the crossing. Apparently lights and gates went up right before the collision
that train was attempting a two for one on those fedex trucks
LAW SUIT CITY
Edie, definitely a lawsuit by FedEx, as the crossarms were not operating and I can see where the truck driver might've thought that no train was coming
I'm no lawyer but I'm sure the onus is still on the vehicle to make sure the crossing is clear? That's why busses and fuel trucks stop at all crossings.
Buses and fuel trucks don't stop at crossings because it's their liability if there is an accident. They stop because the outcome if there is an accident is way higher, ie. dozens of children can die or the fuel truck can explode. It's easy to simply stop at all crossings if it means potentially avoiding severe consequences.
compujas all fuel truck and school bus must stop at track but not on middle of track and open door or roll window down and hear if train come they would roll back off track bit . U don't know about laws
I didn't say anything about where they stop relative to the tracks, nor did I say anything about laws. I simply stated the reasoning behind WHY they have to stop. It's not about who is responsible, but the greater damage that can be caused.
the gate close little bit to late...a little
truck month has its ups and downs
Amazing weather! Wish our country have this.
From Utah ... You don't want this
@@ALLROSEGOLD fellow utahn was literally gonna reply with this lol
Watching the video, you can clearly see a maintenance truck parked on the other side of the tracks (right side of the road). Keep an eye on the small building that's just inside the crossing arm in the frame, you'll see that when the lights do finally come on, a maintenance worker pokes his head out, looks around and has an "uh oh" moment and disappears back into the small building.
Thx almost missed that. Uh oh! Put the gates back down!
There's definitely a story there!
That had to be one interesting train ride. Utah huh, it's no wonder the train lights and gate didn't go down. Probably been years since it had been inspected.
I read the article on this and my first guess would be the crew working on the gates turned them off and turned them back on after the fact. There is very few things that cause a crossing to act like that.
Crossing warning equipment can fail for any reason. Electrical, mechanical, snow or ice in the relays etc. It's why you always slow down and look both ways at crossings.
OMG, a full 30 seconds. Thank God this was caught on dash cam! This cop was put in this place by God for a reason! Earlier today I checked both ways, because I don't trust the arms at all! No doubt FedEx is relieved as is the person behind the wheel to see this. Praying all are ok.
The crossing gates malfunctioned . There where no gate closures or flashing lights as the trucks approached the railroad crossing.
I just realized this is the same crossing that a car got slammed by a Union Pacific train back in 2013.
I'm just scared for the engineer of the train. All that's separating him from the outside is a thin glass window. No protective nose, and that window isn't even very high up on the train. That would be nightmare fuel for me.
Well this explains why my package is delayed! I hope everyone is okay.
Package arrived at the nearest railway crossing.
Package delivered!
I was on Frontrunner tonight.
Same train Engineer hit a person, as of this posting he/she is still alive. Possible suicide attempt.
Really felt sorry for this Engineer.
Nice guy.
FedEx released a statement earlier today "we're FedUp of these motherfucking trains on these motherfucking tracks"
daily reminder stal is a good record
And there were NO warning lights. The warning light came on AFTER the accident.
Update: FEDEX after at first denying it had admitted to parcels being on this truck. FEDEX is DENYING CLAIMS. FEDEX is refusing to reimburse it's customers for damaged or completely lost shipments.
I wondered where my shrek body pillow went
Notice how the first truck we all thought was going to be hit went across those tracks like he was late for supper and the second truck moving like a sloth didnt make it. Finally, something bad happened to the hesitant driver instead of everyone around them!!!!!
Aren't the lights supposed to flash and the stop arms come down BEFORE the train comes through?
Normally, yes.
I love the guy at the end that just drives around the truck.. like wtf..
Why did the gates activate after the train passed? They're supposed to activate when the train is coming.
Woah ...
Do you recorded this can I use this in my train compilation video credit to you in video will be given
Crossing guards. YOU HAD ONE JOB!
I think surviving that experience would merit an “Oh,shit”.
couldn't believe that employee didn't communicate to the train to flag the crossing
If you ask any railroad man, he will tell you that “the railroad was here before the highway.” Also, know that the RR has right-of-way over everything smaller than a train.
It was almost a FedEx twofer
It wasn't until the oncoming SUV went over the tracks that the warning lights went on and the guards came down. It's really lucky that it was a truck trailer and not anything else that was hit. Glad no one got hurt. Feeling kind of sorry for FedEx having to sort out what was damaged and what wasn't. It's a good thing there was a policeman and dash cam video to witness the accident so that the driver doesn't get blamed for what happened.
Train looks like you popsicles
is the tractor still in service?
the train crashed into the truck at 0:20 with the gates up but at 0:50 the crossing activated and the gates went down?
Just google it!
"Dave Goeres, UTA chief safety and security officer, called the crash
"unprecedented." As of Tuesday, no mechanical or system issues have been
identified, he said. UTA is conducting an investigation of all its
systems and is interviewing employees to determine what caused the
accident and whether human error occurred.Initial indications are that the crossing
arms were affected by snow and ice from Saturday's storm, Goeres said,
causing them to drop into the safety default "lowered and active"
position, where they remained for about 12 minutes prior to the crash.A UTA employee was dispatched to the
crossing and was at the scene when the crossing arms raised, Goeres
said. The employee was still at the crossing when the crash occurred. It is unknown why the gates remained up
as the train approached, Goeres said. UTA is still investigating how
long the crossing arms had been raised before the train arrived, and why
they activated and lowered again moments after the crash."
www.deseretnews.com/article/865671732/Police-video-Crossing-arms-not-active-when-FrontRunner-train-hit-semitrailer.html
Why did the crossing not activate the first time?
I feel bad. And railroad crossings are not designed for passenger trains or designed for both freight and passenger trains to protect people
I hope the driver is ok
Guaranteed the driver needed a pair of fresh underpants after that.
I hope the packages are fine
True that!
I think the conductor got
Amazon prime.
2 days early
Did the train hits the FedEx truck in front of the dash am or just this FedEx truck?
Here's the official report: The gates had defaulted down with the lights on. A
Utah Transit Authority crew was dispatched, turned off the lights and raised the arms about a minute before the accident.
The Trump Administration has found its Transportation Secretary.
Oops didn't see this before I posted.
And no wonder my Flat Screen TV was delayed...
I smell a federal lawsuit....
The gates weren't properly working.
I saw that train before in the same state!!!!awesome!!!!!
"sorry but your packages have been misplaced"
I think Denzel was the engineer.
Wonder why the bars and lights didn’t activate before the train showed up
Aren't semi trucks suppose to stop at rail road tracks and check both directions??
TheWiseMan no that is only busses
Only buses and hazardous material trucks.
Depends on your jurisdiction, surely.
Poor visibility due to the snow maybe
Wrong hazmat must stop@@Mr.Chick3n
you ain't never getting your commemorative plate set now!
THE CROSSING GATES DID NOT GO DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not until after the crash they didn’t! But why? Extremely bad weather I guess.
This same train demolished my house. Thankfully it had dropped off my order 3 days earlier than expected.
what happen with railway crossing?
