I literally had this cable on my rolling square cart for almost 2 or 3 weeks. It took this video to convince me to checkout. Thank you for all the info john. By the way, i was going to buy only one unit, but that unexpected discount really helped me getting a few more as gifts for some upcoming birthdays. This is a great gift, to surprise those who already have everything :) Looking forward for that future james brand ellis knife review :p Keep up the good work! Greetings from Portugal!
That end cap NEEDS a means of retention. If not a small strap or lanyard, then another magnet to attach it to one of the cable’s existing magnets. This seems like an oversight to me. Otherwise, good improvements, and great comparison video!
The have some new extended cable incarnations on Kickstarter at the time of writing and the end cap is retained on the cable - the one here is kept very neat as it is I think
Well done, sir!! You used "really" only three times in this review!! And that makes your review much more professional and nicer to listen to! Congratulations!! Again, well done!!!
Hey jon, first let me say, nice good quality and informative video, as always. could you do a followup on the james brand ellis knife? I wonder how it holds up. Thanks for the video!!
Nice video, Jonathan! I was going to go with the 6 because I thought it only improved the data transfer rate, but after this video I’ll be picking up the X. Excellent stuff as always.
These inCharge cables have been my new favs. I previously and still use the Nomad Kevlar cables with the adapters, however with these inCharge cables I have less user error in making sure the adaptors are seated well for a good connection. Now I am just waiting on the latest kickstarter delivery for the newest inCharge cables coming in June.
I funded the original and the newest version. They are great and work amazing in a pinch. I have one stashed in every battery bank bag so I always have a charger for my devices. Even the longer 6 foot cables are very handy. I don’t have to search for different cables of I need to charge multiple devices.
It’s funny because when I saw the last review that’s what made me decide to get one of these and I ordered the in charge X honestly not even realizing that it was different than the other one. I assumed it had all the connections but for some reason I didn’t realize when I got it that it had Micro USB. I had no idea that it was part of the lightning connector so when I got it I was a little bit disappointed and just thought I was wrong or had read it wrong or something but I don’t use too many things that I would need the micro USB for. So I shrugged it off and then I just saw this video and decided I would watch it and lo and behold now I know that it actually does have USB micro! Stoked thanks
The extension part USB-C (over Lightning) on my incharge6 no longer works probably due to some dirt or pocket lint I suspect so the cover on the X is a great addition. Had my InchargeX for about 4 months and so far can't fault it so I'd say go for that one
I've seen an "InCharge X MAX" advertised but the specififations seem to be the same (only it's more expensive...). Do you have any info on that? Bought the X a few weeks ago and I'm very happy with it!
The only connector missing here is Mini-USB. But for emergency use this is not so important for EDC. Only for the longer cable that could be part of my travel pack I would recommend a cable that also supports Mini-USB.
I like the cap idea, my current multi charging lead has the ends held together magnetically; it is not uncommon to find the lead separated as something in my work trousers catches it and pulls it apart.
Woops, guess I ordered one. I actually had their first version from 2014, but it had a rubber-covered cable between the connectors, and it wore out really fast just hanging on my keyring.
I've had my InCharge 6 for about 6 months now. Mine doesn't seem to be able to fast charge any of my devices anymore. Do you happen to have the same problem with yours? Makes me hesitant to pick up the X. (I should clarify that my InCharge 6 is only giving me a trickle charge at this point. If I were to use my phone while it's plugged in the battery would still drain)
@@JonGadget it's gotten much worse over time. Not the charger. Tried with multiple bricks using mostly the usb-c. Always possible I got a faulty unit I suppose
I purchased one of these and it proved to be faulty and would not charge my iphone. I was sent a replacement which did work, but the connections seemed very hit and miss, especially the micro connector. In summary I would not advise purchase of the incharge x
OK, but is it really so tiresome to carry a short, regular cable in your pocket/bag/edc that allows you to also actually use the device while it is charging?
I went ahead and bought one and I'm very disappointed. The MicroUSB adaptor on the InCharge X is rubbish. It only works on some devices. It's a roll of the dice whether it will work on a given device or not. Very disappointing for such an expensive cable; should have just gone with a cheaper alternative.
To be honest, it looks to me as an overhyped expensive gadget. But also, frustratingly, i just want some simple converter plugs to attach to a usb3 cable, which seem hard to find, or ridiculously expensive. To be frank, a little converter plug costs less than 1 euro to make, probably a LOT less. The incharge i would be amazed if production is over 2 euros. Probably close to 1 euro, it at all. So as always you pay too much for these things. If only companies finally drop all connectors but usb c.......
Just to share my experience with both inCharge 6 & X both short and long version… I found out the hard way that the X Max does not really charge a 13” Dell laptop even at 65W, and the 6 max could not charge my ipad pro 12.9” (1st gen) i had multiple X’s usb-c to lightning/micro failed on me after around 6mths… I had multiple 6’s usb-a to usb-c adapter breaking apart after sometime (weak glue)… Not all devices will charge through the usb-c to usb-c (usb-c ipad mini & my wife’s portable breastmilk pump & portable milk warmer for example), i reckon due to the inability to complete the power delivery negotiation requirement… I find that for charging iOS devices with a usb-c powerbank, the incharge 6 works better with the additional adapters removed (the whole cable became even shorter to carry) They are great backup cable (i have a total of 8 incharges cable so far), but I would not just bring it as your primary cable…
Just bought this and I’ve got to say I’m really disappointed. Charging over the lightning adapter is SUPER SLOW. USB C to lightning on a 20% full phone I was getting around 5V / 4W max (not even an amp, and certainly no higher voltages). Using USB A to lightning, getting a meagre 2.5W. This was across a range of different quality chargers and power banks. So it’s good for USB C to C - but for any Apple users I’d recommend to look elsewhere - it’s too slow for anything but emergency use.
I’m using the InCharge X since 2 weeks daily at work as part of my work EDC pouch and I really like it!
Great to hear!

Greetings lovely Portugal - I'm pleased it was useful - Ellis follow up will come....

Glad it was useful 👍

Hi Fabian. I will def. be doing a follow up on the Ellis in the future!
Nice video, Jonathan! I was going to go with the 6 because I thought it only improved the data transfer rate, but after this video I’ll be picking up the X. Excellent stuff as always.
Good to know - X is worth the extra 👍

Best add that i have watched in a while. Bought one with your code.
Placed a decent order and used your code. Thanks for the video and I look forward to getting the cables and other goodies for myself and gifts.

Jon you have the best background and lighting, I need to pic your brain on that at some point
Thanks Dom - feel free to pick away 😊

That's great! You just gained a Micro Usb! Best for emergency use only I would say.
Chafon also makes similar cable like Incharge X. What do you think about it ?
The extension part USB-C (over Lightning) on my incharge6 no longer works probably due to some dirt or pocket lint I suspect so the cover on the X is a great addition. Had my InchargeX for about 4 months and so far can't fault it so I'd say go for that one
agree - end cap def worth having
I got the X a week ago, and I ripped off the lighting plug because it was stuck. The USB end is not as bad but be careful with the lighting end.
I haven't seen these on sale in the UK, Jon. Do you know any suppliers (I don't want to order from the US :-). ) ?
I've seen an "InCharge X MAX" advertised but the specififations seem to be the same (only it's more expensive...). Do you have any info on that?
Bought the X a few weeks ago and I'm very happy with it!
As far as I know it is the same with a longer cable
@@JonGadget Yes, you're right - thanks!
What’s the life before it stops working properly? Is it durable ?
Wow pretty cool options! Thanks for the video well done as always :-)
What's the flashlight you were charging in the video?
The only connector missing here is Mini-USB. But for emergency use this is not so important for EDC. Only for the longer cable that could be part of my travel pack I would recommend a cable that also supports Mini-USB.
I can't remember the last time I used mini USB!

exactly!
Adter seeing your video about the InCharge 6 about a week ago, I decided to buy one. Now I found the video on the X and it seems better... *sigh* ;)
that's why I wanted to get the X video out quickly! the 6 still does a good job though unless you need extra power charging
Woops, guess I ordered one. I actually had their first version from 2014, but it had a rubber-covered cable between the connectors, and it wore out really fast just hanging on my keyring.
I think they must have learned a lot since then
Got it in the mail just now! This is definitely a lot more sturdy and solid than the 2014 version I had once.
It's good but there is a major issue: the cap is not attached to the cable and of course, I lost it.
I've had my InCharge 6 for about 6 months now. Mine doesn't seem to be able to fast charge any of my devices anymore. Do you happen to have the same problem with yours? Has it got worse? Are you sure the charger is not at fault? I would be less confident with Micro USB on this.
@@JonGadget it's gotten much worse over time. Not the charger. Tried with multiple bricks using mostly the usb-c. Always possible I got a faulty unit I suppose

+1. While the concept is great, 3 of my 4 cables fail with the lightning adapter in some scenarios. I'm hoping I can get a refund on these.
Thanks Jon!! ;)
You're welcome Laura 😊
The InCharge X is $24.99 on Amazon here in The Colonies.
That's good to know 👍
Hola , donde los puedo comprar , en Amazon no están , gracias y saludos desde Almeria....
Most of my devices are usb C, I think 1 or 2 are micro so ill stick with the old model! It's serving me well so far 😁
Are they mfi certified ?
Thanks Jon 💪
You're welcome
Jon
Do you know of a similar product that can fit micro usb type b output
this is for connecting to a micro usb type b socket - the plug is squared off so it fits lightning so not a perfect solution but OK in emergencies
Excellent video as always Jonathan. You convinced me to buy one.
Just lost my in charge x at the weekend, only had it a couple of weeks, fell off my keys not sure how, gutted 😑
OK, but is it really so tiresome to carry a short, regular cable in your pocket/bag/edc that allows you to also actually use the device while it is charging?
This I would say is for those times when you have forgotten or perhaps thought you wouldn't need a cable.
@@JonGadget 'spose so.

game changer :)
Was about to buy it but 9 USD for shipping to Europe is too much…
Aviator or xsto?
Aviator if I had to choose
Thanks!

yep - universal USB-C would solve it

Thanks for the information based on your experience. I would definitely agree that this is back up only.
Now they have XL
Just a note on the affiliate link, discount is now 5%
I didn’t know that. Will check!
Appears the link discount no longer works
thanks for letting me know will check
I really don’t see it as a emergency cable rather than a perfect EDC kable.
👍🏾
Would be better if it was 5gbps instead of the ancient usb 2.0 speed of 480mbps.
Why would you be in a whole host of trouble ???? In the grand scheme of things its just a dead phone.
Would be tricky to call for a ambulance in a emergency if your phone's dead, one example.
Hard to find "just a phone" to be "just a dead phone" these days.
...also, if your train ticket is in 'your phone wallet' - or on an App, then you no longer have a ticket to show
Just bought this and I’ve got to say I’m really disappointed.

I’ll check it out and feed back, I’m guessing you’re using a capable charger?
Stop making me buy more stuff!
Speed of 480 Mbps, is not acceptable, it is not even USB 3 support!!
In 2023 , A speed of 40 MB/s is not acceptable.
1st
Woop!
Thanks!
