I'm running 4x1080 on a two year-old XForcePC: it shipped with the 2070. For XP11 it was pretty good, but with XP12 I found, with the nicer clouds & weather, I had to sacrifice on the setting to stay above 20FPS. I simply upgraded to the 4070 and all is good. Sure, some locations / some weather taxes the system, but the 4070 was a great update. I plan on getting a new PC (perhaps with your 7800x3d suggestion) but as a first step, the 4070 gives me some breathing room. Thanks for your informative videos!
Thank you. I think the community has been struggling for clarity and guidance here for a while. BTW. What was the motherboard and RAM combination used in your tests?
Thank you MIchael for this very valuable information ,A lot of benchmarks don't include either Xplane or MSFS so for you to drill down to just these sim's is fantastic ! May I please ask how come the 7900XTX or the 7900XT werent included here ? Thanks again your info helps with an upgrade path .
They do fine, but X-Plane plugins sometimes have "issues" with AMD cards. So, we usually advise avoiding them for X-Plane. If you just use vanilla X-Plane, then they are fine to use and perform like an RTX4080.
Thanks for this Michael. I've seen a similar one for MSFS with similar results. I'm planning a new build and I've got as far as an I713700K and the RTX 4070 Ti....I was waiting for clarification re AMD and X plane. This has helped a great deal. After this, I'm now considering AMD considering. It's a big wrench though..
Very useful information, thank you. I got the i7 13700k mostly because of long term compatibility issues that I previously had with AMD but I admit I'm a little bit jealous of the 15% improvement. Also I run the RTX 4070. But massive difference of performance in FS2020 vs X-Plane. So sad because I love X-Plane and I've had it since version 7 back in the 2000's.
I'm in the process of designing a new build 17-13700K is on my list. BUT, maybe not now. I was waiting for more clarification re: X plane and this issue. I've seen one for MSFS and there is a difference. AMD better. I'm looking at a 4070 Ti BTW.
I use the full range of RealSimGear devices - the GTN750, dual G5s, GFC500 and a GNS430 - does that work on the AMD setup? Adding those 4 extra screens - do you recommend driving some of them off the GPU? I can also drive them all of USB HDMI connectors.

Great information, even 9 months later. That's the combo I'm considering. Thanks for sharing. New sub.

Would this change for VR? If you are running VR, 4080/90 will be needed?
4090 is an outlyer. I would consider 4070Ti or 4080. 4090 is for extreme cases.
@@xforcepc when would you consider 4090 to be necessary?
8K VR headset, for instance. @@Inserico
