    Just love how the forward/return is done with belts and a lever. Had to take a good look and it couldn't be simpler, it's perfection!!! Two belts, one drive. Pull one way to pick up slack on one, make slack on the other. Beautiful! :)

    That big log yielded some nice wide boards.
    I hope they were worth the extra work.

    Hi guys. Good video. I would love to see a video on your mill. I assume it is a Frick. How old is it, and did you buy it new or second hand? Are spare parts available? Do you keep some in stock? Do you have to make any spare parts? Also some info on the log loader and turner would be interesting. Do you plan on installing them? Are you considering a new edger sitting downstream from the mill-- self powered and not run off a PTO? I assume you are running a Detroit Diesel Bus Motor. What is the HP, and how much does fuel cost? Does the price of diesel have much effect on your selling prices for lumber? Finally, what about a Pole Barn to get out of the weather? Nathan Elliott (Out of the Woods) just had one built and it is nice.

    After you got the log squared up, there were some delicious boards that came off. Even the boards with checking could be salvaged as shorter boards and partly ripped down. There is alot of pretty wood in that monster log.

    • @AndruwsLumber
      @AndruwsLumber  2 месяца назад

      Yes it did have some nice boards in it. We edged out a lot of that split where it was shaky. We can handle a 34-36 inch log if it is round. That log was really oval shaped and gave us a fit. Thank you for watching and commenting.

    We figured if our blade wouldn't make a can't, the big logs were not worth sawing. We had no goodbye of handling the great big logs. Our limit was about 30".

    I can't believe you had your hand on the carriage control while he was trimming off the excess while is back was to the blade. Damn!

      I appreciate your concern but actually, I was holding the carriage in neutral with that belt feed. Sometimes the carriage will creep so we were trying to be safe. Thank you for watching and commenting.

    Back in the eighties, we never sawed a log so big we had to make two videos out of sawing one log of course videos had not been invented. There were no cell phones to watch the videos on. We stuck to logs we could saw more easily.

    After all that working of barrel sawing that monster white oak, it's a crying shame there were so many cracked boards in that log. There is probably as much time in edging the remaining boards as there was sawing the whole log.

    • @AndruwsLumber
      @AndruwsLumber  2 месяца назад

    Pickering, Ontario, Canada. Why is the cant turned so often? I know it serves some purpose, but to me as an amateur it seems like a lot of work for nothing.

    • @AndruwsLumber
      @AndruwsLumber  2 месяца назад +1

      We turn the cant to try to get the best grade lumber. It is called grade sawing. We try to box the heart into the last piece since it is the lowest grade. We had to turn that log a little extra trying to get it to where the saw would reach through it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
