Did your close family members have you smoke crack before you were 10? Did you watch a gang member kill your family and then hunger for revenge? Did your parents raise you to be a gang banger? There are hoods where its literally impossible to make enough money to move out without being a criminal or where you HAD to b a criminal just to survive. You may not have to rob to survive, but you may have to kill to survive. Killing once for survival in self defense is certainly enough to twist your mind especially with everything else going on.

I was in Atlanta, doordashing the night he died. I pulled up to an intersection directly across the street from grady hospital. I saw a car speed past me and a run a red light to get to the emergency entrance. They pulled up, hopped out, (a man and a woman) and started yelling for someone to come help. I found out the next day that king von was killed at a lounge and was taken to that very hospital at the exact same time I was there. The universe acts in funny ways. I’ve never even heard a king von song. But something put me there at that moment. Now listening to his voice and hearing him speak about his life, it really puts things in perspective. Peace and love to everyone ✌️

You can call me a liar but I saw what I saw and I bet the hospital footage even shows my Acura sitting at the light that night. Why would I lie about something like that? Being in a car near someone who died? What points does that earn me?

Von grew up in a shitty environment, hung with the wrong crowd and done some bad shit that ultimately cost him his life. He straight up told the interviewer that if he grew up in that block he would’ve had to gangbang too. That’s the reality for many black kids in the hood except most don’t get to have the same fame and fortune that Von did.

I don't agree with those sentiments. Don't underestimate the power of rap which has been basically advertising black on black violence for 30+ years with a couple exceptions. Not to mention the fact 15-20 years ago rappers weren't really bragging about drinking codeine and popping pills However, ever since influential black main stream rappers started rapping about doing percs, molly, xanax and lean predominantly around 2012 it's been a hot commodity for young urban kids. Promotion works. Advertising works. If commercials didn't work companies would not spend money making them.
Environmental factors do also play a part but INFLUENCE is everything.

If this interview doesn’t teach you anything else, know this, the entire portion of a person’s mannerism is founded on energy. I’ve lived in Chicago my whole 40 years of life. I used to be surprised to hear about young boys who smiled and held my gate open as I carried in groceries being “hitters.” I remember having a snowball stand in the summer and making nachos and tacos. The entire neighborhood would come down to my house to support and I loved all of them ❤. In the crowd, however, I later discovered that there were some boys who had pulled off licks and hits. It put my shit directly in the crossfire, so sometimes I’d try to talk to them to no avail. Every other month one of them died.

Self aware etc. I read people well and as a former vet, communications major and athlete it’s easy to tell someone comfortable in their own skin, and whose thought process is beyond surface level. And he did it didn’t skip a beat and kept talking. Very rarely uses filler (ughs etc)… what a fucking waste. This kid was a soldier and could have done great things.

I heard so much about him being a cold hearted killer and how evil he was… but I can’t help but feel so bad for him for the circumstances that he was given in life. He really never had a chance in life. It’s so easy if you don’t grow up in a place like that to say, “He chose to be in a gang,” or, “ He could have just left.” In reality it’s not that easy, people living it feel like there’s no way out. Hopefully in his next life time he’s given better circumstances and experiences inner peace and true love. 😢
