Interesting video. I would respectfully add: a) White winter tents (Camp IV/Everest variety) are much better than digging snow caves. It takes less time to set one up; you won't get wet; you won't give your position away with explosions; and you can take your shelter with you. b) In snow conditions, it's White, White, White. Clothing, weapons, pack, etc. A quick fix is a white cover-up, large white coat with hood that will fit over your head, chest rig and pack as well as a pants cover-up that will cover your legs and most of your boots. c) For cold weather mittens with inner finger liners are preferable to gloves. They are much warmer. d) Gore-Tex rocks! It keeps you dry and the wind out. e) Merino wool for your base layer top and bottom. With a lot of exertion the top will get wet. Not ideal, but manageable with wool. If possible, maybe in your tent/sleeping bag get out of any wet clothing and keep wet kit separated from dry. f) In snow, sleet try to cover your weapon. AK's are robust, but even they can freeze up. At least put a condom or balloon over the end of the barrel in wet conditions. g) Eat, eat, eat & drink, drink, drink (ie H20, not single malt). Energy bars with caffeine are good, but they will make you thirsty. Chew gum to keep your mouth wet and try to drink water often. h) Wool socks and waterproof boots are key. i) Be as fit as possible. Winter requires even more energy than other seasons. j) Make sure that your eyes are protected. If it's snowy and the sun shines hard when you do not have good goggles, then you may get snow blinded; if conditions are really bad, as the video suggests, you'll want good goggles that don't fog up to protect your face and allow you to see. k) Good wool balaclava. l) Good gaiters. m) Lots of good training on both skis and snowshoes as well as winter camping/kit/weapon maintenance before you go on a mission. n) If possible, use small, quiet winterized, infrared/thermal drones to scout as much as possible before make choices about movement. o) Excellent mind set is the most important! If you prepare properly in winter, then you are probably going to have a big advantage over your adversaries. Currently, the model is the poorly-prepared Russians vs the well-prepared Ukrainians.(Not sure if that model is entirely correct since there is not a lot of corroborated information for both sides). Perhaps a better model would be the Finn-Soviet Winter War of 1939 where the outnumbered and outgunned Finns inflicted severe defeats on Stalin because the Finns excelled at winter war. In sum, do as the Finns did. Use cold weather to your advantage by preparing better and aggressively applying that advantage against your enemy 24/7 in winter until they are completely vanquished.
In the U.S. army I remember my first real cold, it was about 20 below in our training event without wind chill factor.
