Believe it or not, there's a way to emergency rappel without a belt or carabiners. It's called Dülfersitz.

I would recommend learning or applying one of two knows for a better anchor. Either a bowline on a bite with an overhand back up, or the equivocation hitch. The use of a munter can better be improved by doubling over the tree and using both strands in order to recover the rope. The equivocation hitch will offer the same benefit.

How do you recover the rope from the bottom of the cliff if you’re by yourself?

The area I practice in has a path back up. In a real emergency, I would have to leave rope behind. Hopefully it got me to safety.
