      There are a lot of people (social elites - politicians/professors/agitators) who derive their power from driving wedges between groups.
      Divide and conquer, it's been working since Roman times. And it pays well too.

    Back in the day, either in 1 of his celebrity roasts, or him picking you out of the audience: to be insulted, made fun of, or given a zing - it was considered an honor.
    And that's back when people still had a sense of humor.
    To watch Jim Carrey impersonate him on In Living Color(season 2, I think)..he was hilarious, & sounded like him.

    This is the mentality I grew up with. People could talk trash to each other & everyone knew it was just WORDS & not ACTIONS & back then people looked at you funny if you got triggered & offended.

    No one knows what Rickles means anymore with "We Jews love you, especially on Sunday" because all restaurants and businesses used to be closed on Sunday, except Chinese restaurants. So Jews would go to eat there. People think he means something dirty.

    • @tntreactions
      @tntreactions  2 дня назад +1

    It's funny how comediens like Don Rickles and charactors like Archie Bunker were allowed on network tv but they couldn't show a man and his wife in the same bed ala The Dick Van Dyke Show! Don Rickles was in quite a few movies and tv shows making guest apperances but of course, the writers had to clean his act up a bit. He was also known for calling everybody a "hockey puck". Some of what you were seeing were from the Dean Martin Roasts where stars would come on and obliterate the guest of honor, like Mr. T or Sammy Davis Jr. Ah, the 70's.

    When you experienced a Don Rickles performance, the jokes wouldn't have flied if it weren't for his loving and crazy personality. He had an approach, and it wasn't to "turn over the apple cart" as Eddie Murphy once said. It was just regular and wonderful teasing like how your friends may go at you. A lot of people are too sensitive today, where all of the social cues and understanding of context is gone. People want to control our language where even Noam Chomsky has stated it is detrimental to our society. Rickles was a wonderful and kind man behind the curtain.

    Before Rickles there was the "insult comic" Jack E. Leonard, who was very similar. Years ago I heard the Friars Club Don Rickles Roast on the radio, and I notice it is on Y.T. ( Bootleg Friars Club Roast 1967 - Don Rickles"). It started out with Leonard saying that Rickles stole his act. You would probably know Johnny Carson, but are probably too young to know some of the others. It's almost an hour, and the sound quality isn't great, but it's worth hearing once.

    Also, if you get around to it, check out a stand-up comic named Henny Youngman. He does one-liners rapid fire, he delivery is awesome, and he is pretty family-friendly. If you have ever done any viewings of Rodney Dangerfield and you liked him, you will like Henny.

    Don passed in 2017 and was still making appearances in talk shows, still with the same humor, that’s not that long ago so I think he could still say kill on stage but maybe cause of his age he got a pass?

    The World has gotten way too soft and weak. Everybody is too sensitive and gets offended too easily. I say to all of you softies a quote from one of Dolly Parton movie; "Time for you to get off of the cross, someone needs the wood".

  • @shawnnixon2811
    @shawnnixon2811 3 дня назад

    As Mark Twain said " all humor is at someone's expense" . So all comedy has the potential to be offensive. The power to be offended lies entirely in the hands of the listener. They can choose to be offended or find the humor in the joke. Or a novel idea in this day and age just overlook or ignore it if you don't think it's funny.
